Disagree. Trauma doesn't justify evil, but is most definitely the spark. There are psychopaths that don't care about anyone that nonetheless may never do much harm. They could be diffusing bombs roadside in Afghanistan or doing stunt car driving for the next action movie

No, Harley was the edgy teenager who admires serial killers. Punchy there is one of the serial killers - she just took her inspiration from Joker.
Harley is like a manipulated angel. Crazy, but she's good at heart and love to play prank. While Punchline is a whole new level. Harley is what you call an anti-hero, Punchline is a villain.
That’s an interesting comparison:
Harley as the fallen angel, seeking some sort of direction in life, and Punchline as the succubus, as evil at heart.
I like Harley but she is by no means "Good" she is a murder, a psycho, and has harmed and destroyed uncountable lives without regret or care.
And I hated Harley as a person before, naw man Harley is way better than Alexa, especially in the injustice and JL dark Apokolips wars

didn't Harley kill a bunch of hospital kids at one point? they've turned her character around in recent years, but you cant forget all the horrific things she has done.

Harley and Joker had a daughter in a series but it was non canon, that actual Joker's daughter was not his daughter.

She seems like she is more like the Joker's counterpart to Tim Drake. Where as Jason Tood and Dick Grayson did not seek out Batman. Rather because of outside factors ended up becoming Robin, Tim Drake set out to become Robin and thinks like Batman. Same with Harley Quinn, she was a Doctor who got manipulated by the Joker into becoming the person she became. Punchline wants to become the next Joker, similar to how Tim Drake wanted to be the next Batman.

You’ll notice that in the shot where the dean falls off the bed his eyes are turning red. This is because the blood vessels in his eyes have begun to burst, a common sign of lethal asphyxiation. In other words, the joker gas has reached a point where it is making it impossible for him to breathe. She mastered that recipe perfectly. And the artist who drew this knew what they were doing!

No she’s a fucking psychopath, and the whole bit of poisoning and skinning her own dean is simply a way for Punchline to prove to the Joker that she has NO INTEREST IN BECOMING A HERO OR A VILLAIN. She’s the female version of Nolan’s Joker. One of those characters that seriously want to watch the world burn.

If Harley had been like Punchline, she wouldn't have lasted two episodes. It was her tragedy that made her appealing. Punchline doesn't add anything to the Joker. He could work just as well without her and probably already knows that.
When Harley was created she was originally meant to be in the background. The joker was often surrounded by nameless clown themed underlings and one of the show runners just said "Eh, let's make one of the goons a lady" but audiences saw something in her that made them want to learn more about her and thus they fleshed her out. Punchline feels like the opposite. She's got a name, and an origin, and now that I know it I feel like she'd be just adequate as one of Joker's clown themed goons, that's all.
She has potential, if Harley Quinn was the angel on Joker's Shoulder Punchline is supposed to be the devil. She's actively trying to not be Harley Quinn and Harley Quinn is not even jealous.
That so true. Reading some comics they say Harley Quinn was never meant to be a character. She was introduce as an love interest for the joker being a supporting character but the audience like her so much that the writer decided to give her a character or better yet a story arc or even better better yet an identity. Before being joker girlfriend to currently today being her own person. That just show how far she come and being background character or supporting character or not having major role doesn’t mean you not important or doesn’t contribute anything because you do. Also show toixic relationship can have negative impact, servile damage on your physical/mental health and usually one sided. Also show you overcome it but it will take time, patience, support, and challenging. Harley Quinn is one of these characters who show it.
Even when she was a background character in "Joker's Favor", Arleen Sorkin invested her with so much personality, with the accent, the subtle menace, the Yiddish slang, and the shifts in emotion, that she was immediately notable. Punchline has no distinct personality quirks. She's just a Joker rewrite without the humour.

Whoever made this origin story and thought it was good deserves a slap in the face.
After what marvel and DC been trying to release lately (Snowflake......Chinese Bruce Wayne.....and more) this is alot better direction and straight forward so I like it. Sometimes you gotta slowly return to your roots, ya know.
The fact that she didn’t need to be manipulated by the joker with an obvious some sob story to be evil is just scary.

I disagree with J, because far from being an angty sociopath, I think she she is fully aware of her actions and simply does not care. the world is falling to crap, so why pretend like it isn't? instead, why not ride the crazy roller coaster and add some of your own twists in for kicks? she's much more complex than we can ever imagine, and I'm sure when she is dropped into the mainstream DC universe in full force her character will further develop, but already I'm seeing her as being just as if not more complex than even the Joker himself in some ways.

Why does everyone think that Punchline would be a threat? She is literally just edgy teen that somehow got together with Joker. I dont see anything in this story that would make her dangerous and she is just stereotipical. Joker is at his best when he is working alone.
Almost every Robin is just a kid that got together with Batman, so I kind of don't see your point. She has guts to poison someone quite cruely and I believe that with the right guidance from Joker she could be relativly same of threat as him.

This is the most ridiculous origin I've ever seen, and the most empty character. She is stereotypical and looks like Mary Sue from low-grade fan fiction. This origin doesn't tell us about her or the Joker. But this is the 80th anniversary edition of the Joker! Just wasted pages. After joke comes... nothing. I can not see a joke.
Being a fan girl with no other motives is such a boring origin and idea for a charakter. And then her costume looks like shit! It's not cool or aesthetic and it looks useless in a fight.
I think the difference between Harley Quinn and Punchline is this.
Harley Quinn is kind of a good person who happens to be a drug addict, that drug being a killer clown stuff. Punchline's just a bad person.
Harley Quinn is like the showman part of the joker, She's big, she's flashy and sometimes funny. which is why people like the joker. Punchline is all the parts of Joker, we hate like when he murder Jason Todd or when he hurts or kills innocent people.
Harley Quinn had a big fantasy about her love curing the Joker and it being a fun ride, and that just wasn't the case. If I had to guess Punchline is like that 2nd Harley turned Neo-Joker in Batman: White Knight. She's not hoping she makes the joker better, she enjoys him better awful and wants in. She's just going straight to the point.

I feel like this isn't a great representation of the Joker. Wouldn't it be more in his nature to see Punchline as a "try-hard" of sorts and try and get her off his back? The Joker is a stubborn, sadistic almost child-like entity and a child doesn't like when another takes their toy, which in this case is Gotham.

This reminds me of a fanfic I read when I was a teenager. I’m not kidding in the fanfic the writer had a character named punchline the joker called her one of his henchmen, and I think he killed her as well.
This new character just screams teen fanfic with a mary-sue oc Character.
Joker doesn't due partners he's too egotistical and a genius to top it all off. If the writer knows Joker's Character then he will have him messing with her head and eventually getting bored with her and killing her off.
Batman has Damien to carry on his legacy. I think it's only fitting for Joker to have a protégé carry on his.

Harley Quinn has been the perfect partner for joker for decades, but it's got a bit redundant. But a new twisted and psychotic partner of the joker, with one twisted origin story, and a cool name...I can see why the hype is real. Its fresh, and it's new and it's like Harley Quinn, but with a slight change...she is much much darker. Also, not only is punchline a great name, cuz it matches with Joker, the fact that they named the series what comes after a joke, which is essentially a punchline...is baller

Harley’s been helping out Catwoman and Bats these days. Just check out Tynion’s Batman comic going on right now, it’s where Punchline is introduced.
Punchline shows up between 9- 5ish ,makes smart-ass remarks to Joker , don't help out the Joker with his plans & has a sidekick who goes Well ,well, well. Harley sees this , busts out laughing & switches over to the Batman family, calling herself Bat-Quinn.

Harley Quinn is like the showman part of the joker, She's big, she's flashy and sometimes funny. which is when we love the joker. Punchline is all the parts of Joker, we hate like when he murder Jaos todd or when he hurts or kills innocent people.
Harley Quinn had a big fantasy about her love curing the Joker and it being a fun ride, and that just wasn't the case. If I had to guess Punchline is like that 2nd Harley turned Neo-Joker in Batman: White Knight. She's just going straight to the point. She's not hoping she makes the joker better, she enjoys him better awful and wants in.
I'd call Punchline the obverse of Harley -- different side of the same coin.
Anti doesn’t always mean complete opposite FYI. It also means opposed to or different from the conventional form, think anti-hero.

He means antithesis. Harley's the butt of the joke. The one who gets beat up on. Punchline is the anchor, they both have strong senses of humor and she can sustain herself.

Honestly, unimpressive, she will definitely not replace Harley as Joker’s partner.
Harley had a more complex backstory and was overall a more interesting character, it is a shame that people forget that the was a monster as well who consciously chose to love Joker and stay by his side and that she has actually progressed past the point of being a manipulated abused girlfriend during their relationship. The fact that they are trying to make Punchline an anti Harley Quinn by saying that she is “just as bad as the Joker” and “loves him for being evil” is ridiculous, just showing how much Harley’s character has been ruined nowadays, and now Punchline is revealed to be just an edgy college girl?
At least if you are keen on breaking Joker and Harley up, allow Joker to be solo.
You realize Harley has had nearly 30 if not 30 years of comics, cartoons, etc. etc. of development while Punchline has had a few issues? Maybe give the character time to breathe and grow a bit?

Harley is for slapstick comedy, Punchline is for dark comedy, and Joker is wordplay based comedy
She seems to have potential. Punchline is a villain who can become a greater threat than the joker if given the chance/ with her philosophy.

Honestly, when I first saw punchline I acc loved her straight away. The looks where enough to sweep me off my feet because u can tell she has a lot of character just from looks alone.
Don’t get me wrong Harley is still number 1 but punchline just has a different vibe. The only question I have is how did she meet the Joker.

Honestly can’t believe some people see being gay as “ruined”. I watched the original series, and even as a young girl I sensed a potential relationship between Harley and Ivy. If you think about it, their relationship actually makes a LOT of SENSE on where they are right now. DC is pushing Harley to be some kind of antihero, and Ivy’s slowly but surely making friends (that aren’t named Harley). And that character development was only made possible because they pushed these two women to bond ORGANICALLY over the years, and if you think that’s disgusting and wrong, then I have nothing to say to you other than think of you with contempt and disgust.

@Syafiq Nurhashim yes they said in the original volume of Teen Titans that they thought she was two faces daughter, but for quite some time her code name was Joker's daughter before changing it to harlequin toward the end of the original run of Titans. I'm just not sure why you felt the need to bring up the obvious. The original comments are was just mentioning her code name and it seemed like you might have been inferring something was wrong with his statement, like that wasn't her code name or something. Oh well. At least duela dent was nuanced and not purely evil to any degree like it seems this new punchline character is. Even for villains, if I find them completely evil with nothing redeeming, I don't like them. It just means they're kind of a garbage human being. Just saying.
