  • I speak a lot about the current state of gaming with friends off stream and recently I had a good chat about it with my community server admin Pony. He said that I should put all this in a video so here we are. In this video I am just chatting about my views on the current state of gaming and where i think it is heading.
Please share your thoughts in the comments and thank you for watching!

With the slow down in gaming technology, devs now need to concentrate on good storylines and regular content for their games. Additionally, they need to make sure they work properly before release.

Hey GC. I tend to agree with your points. To piggy back on a couple of them...1) Money is a big factor obviously. But this also creates a lot of distrust. Take SW Outlaws for example. $130 for the whole game is high, but you don't actually get the whole game until Ubisoft releases the content to you. Missions behind paywalls and a season pass for a single player game are things consumers are not liking right now. 2) you mention not much difference between PS4 and PS5 for example. It was my understanding that when a company makes a title that is being released on both PS4 and PS5 it holds back the potential for the game that the PS5 could offer. They need to start ditching the PS4 releases more and more IMO. 3) Social media...i can agree there. But this just means the consumer is more informed now. Another thing that i hate to mention that is having a negative effect on gaming today is companies pushing politically charged ideologies. We play video games to escape that stuff, not be thrown into the middle of it. You mention Ubisoft a lot in your video. I can understand that with your new partnership with them (congrats). They have created some of the great games out there like my fav of all time Division 2. But since then they have been pretty bad. I purchased Skull and Bones since i had been waiting on that title for 10+ years...I haven't played it in well over a month and probably never will again because its not that good. SW: Outlaws and AC: Shadows are not getting good publicity and for good reason. The gamers that just want to play a fun game see laziness cut and paste same old gameplay over and over from Ubisoft, EA and Activision. Rockstar does it right IMO. I definitely feel the frustration. I will wait and see on SW Outlaws...likely will be heavily discounted a few months after launch.

I agree on all of this, especially video games getting us away from ideology and a tough day. They are meant to give our mind time to relax from reality for a couple of hours, which helps.

You are 100% right, as I said in Ubi questionnaire after D1, I dont mind to pay every year up 100 euros for DLC and even more on cool skins. I just need to feel like Im playn something new. I want to face new challages, solve new problems, help new people... I need new content to flex brain again, at this point we all are on autopilot during play

Great video GC! I guess I’m too easy to please…. I would be happy if they just fixed the “Massive “ bugs that are ruining div 2 now!

it is not the devs that are needing to work harder it is the corporation that needs to get their heads out of the gutter to help get devs to do what we need them to do and if they do not do such thing then games are just shitty now

WOKE in games destroys the gaming as people do not buy or fund the WOKE

I just wish they got away from the limited season pass model. Like I would love for games to implement a model were if I pay for a season pass. I can come back and play it later after the season ended. Especially in games like the division 2

I like this idea. It would give people so much content to do if they came to the game late too.
Div 2 does let you go through all past manhunt climax missions which is great but allowing a purchase of the old seasons to farm the rewards that were a part of it would be great too, or if already bought like you said, can be done at any time

PSN was such a great magazine. I used to sub to Nintendo Power also. Got Dragon Warrior free with my subscription.

The Meta to make as much money as possible, the buy now we fix later, the forcing players to play in groups and clans, not listening to what players want, mixing PVP with PVE , dupe glitches, bugs and cheats are all ruining gaming.
Example Dune (Funcoms Back ground) anyone who plays Conan Exiles knows exactly what I mean.

This is my view about these events from my imagination of belief:
1: If I were to compare games from a decade ago, I believe its somewhat now more expensive to create and perhaps maintain as compared to those on older consoles requiring no memory card or cloud server; it has been more on quantity than quality in focussing on gameplay, progression saving and mechanics, and not expressing character value and story elements, which even niche is considered good enough for the devs due to completing targets regardless of quality.
2: Since microtransactions were known, I believe 1990 from, Double Dragon 3 somehow fuelled the negative needs from one person, which spread to shareholders and top staff members alike in the gaming industry like wildfire, and fuelled their financial desires at the cost of their passion to develop a standard quality game to garner positive feedback or throwing away their staff members like lemmings to keep their selfish desires and divert shame to someone or something instead of themselves when a project fails to deliver targets due to poor sales or otherwise. Bungie, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft etc. Are the examples of this.
3: Despite the well known game companies dishing out meh standard games, others like Shift Up, Arrow Head, Super Giant Games etc. Are slowly starting to rise to become more known to gamers and get known enough to even compete with the common game industries in the near future.
While I believe there has been great moments for indie devs making a positive impact in the market, it's getting much darker for the well financed companies like Activision Blizzard slowly being exposed to the ugly truths of what its leaders are behind the scenes with their toxic behaviour towards staff members.
And I fear its about to get even uglier in the near future.

-they need to get rid of this new model (release a half finished game then charge money for the rest and fixes), in the 90's every game was for the most part finished at release, and then added NEW (not stuff that should of been there day 1) paid dlc's down the road, NO micro-transactions NO trying to squeeze every nickle out of the player base, and games were usually $29-$49 bucks with $10-$20 dollar dlc's/map packs and they were GREAT games. GREED IS THE PROBLEM NOW

No one can honestly predict if a game will be successful, so that will defo put people off from investing money. If they can't see any potential profit, then they won't invest.
