    This episode, yeah, it meansers a bit, but the overall feel makes me think of old Elmore Leonard novels, crime fiction where you're just capturing a snippet of a larger story, a moment in time of these people's lives.
    Reservoir Dogs is another example.
    I voted for this one. Great job!
    Stay cool today.

    Now, this is an episode I don't remember. But it's good to see Warren Stevens, a terrific actor who showed up all over the place in television of the 1950's-60's. Richard Devon is also a very familiar face. Thanks for all the inside information. Another great video!!

    Talk about timing! I had just finished watching this episode on Blu-ray (thanks for the recommendation by the way) when your channel notification popped up. I hadn't noticed the stylistic similarities between this episode and "The Four of Us Are Dying." It's interesting that the two episodes are tied together in that way because Arch Hammer seems to be acquiring the souls of the men whose faces he mimics. Another fine review 🥃🥃🥃🥃(I rate it four out of five Tequilas with a lump of sugar) and I look forward to the next 😀

    I enjoy both this one and the 80s remake. I showed this episode to my writing course and then I had everyone write about an item or accessory they had that someone else would put on to turn into them. It was very fun. I always liked the concealed gunman behind the bookcase in Bernie's office; that's a good twist. Great job as always!

    For a change, I'm going to keep it relatively brief with this comment (Anthony goes "yay"! 😀) My thoughts are much in line with those in the video: thematically similar to "The Four of Us Are Dying", this episode is buoyed by a strong performance from Warren Stevens, who at one point seamlessly switches personalities from being the confident gangster Dane to the hapless homeless man and back to Dane again.
    Another episode with a tie-in (albeit it a more remote one--a connection that maybe only I see 😏) is "What You Need". Yes, the one with Pedott the poor peddler who enriched others by providing a seemingly mundane object that magically gave the beneficiaries, well, _what they needed_ (e.g., a leaky fountain pen drips on a newspaper's racing page to predict winners). At the end, Pedott is threatened by a petty thug, who is takes a pair of shoes from him, only to be hit and killed by a car when crossing a wet street due to the shoes' slippery soles. At that point, Pedott philosophically opines that in this case the shoes were what _he_ needed, because the thug had murderous intent.
    So, magical shoes on a dead man. We don't know what became of _those_ shoes, but in any case, perhaps they came from the same shop in the old country that manufactured footwear with unique properties, footwear like those that wound up on Dane's feet.
    I rate "Dead Man's Shoes" a solid 3 out of 5 pairs of size nine black & gray loafers made to order in the old country.

    • @FeverDreamlandTheater
      @FeverDreamlandTheater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Galantski! Thanks for catching up on the reviews!
      Brief comment? Hey now, no sweat man, I like your posts no matter what length! Do your thing, its all good! 😀 I love the connection you made here with 'What you need.' I always like to imagine some connections in the 5th dimension, so your idea of the shoes originating from the same shop in the old country as Dane's shoes is awesome!
      On a somewhat related note, ever notice in 'What You Need', Renard is in Pedott's apartment already when he arrives home? I may have to rewatch it to be fair, because maybe I missed something. I just wondered how he knew where he lived? In any case, I like that episode as well. Good hearing from you about this one! Be well & have a good one!

    • @Galantski
      @Galantski ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FeverDreamlandTheater I rewatched the scene where Pedott enters his apartment, only to find Renard there. This comes immediately after the one where the _what you need_ pair of "magical" scissors saves Renard's life. Although we don't know the exact amount of time that elapsed, I'm thinking it wasn't too long, say later the same night. If that's the case, then Renard likely wouldn't have had the opportunity to spy on Pedott, and we know he didn't _follow_ the peddler back to his apartment. So, as you note, the mystery is how did he find his way in the flat ahead of his prey?
      I think the solution must be the simplest one: Renard knew, because they both lived in the same building and probably on the same floor, since he knew which was Pedott's apartment. As for him getting into the place, I'm guessing he climbed the fire escape and came in through a back window, unless he has lock-picking skills (Pedott used his key to enter, and as we can see the outer side of the door doesn't look as though it was forced open). Those are my thoughts, but do you have any other possible scenarios, Anthony?
      Finally, I have a quick quiz for you and your viewers. Chekhov's Gun is the name for a literary maxim that is said to have originated with the Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. When instructing budding writers, his advice is said to have included this: “If in Act One you have a pistol hanging on the wall, then it must fire in the last act.” Obviously, in practice the "gun" isn't limited to an actual firearm, but to any important plot point. It just so happens that there's a really great example in "What You Need". The quiz question is this: _What subtle but crucial plot point do we observe in the very first scene of the episode--even before we are introduced to any of the characters--that will play a vital role in the final act?_

    Five days ago I mentioned the concept of Chekhov's Gun, and posed the following question regarding its use in the "What You Need" episode. No one gave an answer, so here are the question and answer:
    *Q* _What subtle but crucial plot point do we observe in the very first scene of the episode--even before we are introduced to any of the characters--that will play a vital role in the final act?_
    *A* The episode begins with an establishing exterior shot of a street scene outside the bar and grill where the first action begins. Noticeable is that fact that the street is wet, presumably from a rain. At the end of "What You Need", Pedott is saved by the slick-soled shoes that Renard took from him and _the same wet pavement from the opening,_ a combination that would prove fatal for the criminal as he was unable to avoid being struck by an oncoming car.

    • @FeverDreamlandTheater

      Hey Galantski! I either missed your Q or didn't get a notification. In any case, great question. I'm not sure I would have gotten that one. I appreciate the additional trivia though. Hope you are doing well. Take care man.

    I really emjoyed this episode, including the lack of exposition. I don't think the stop at the girlfriend's apartment is wasted time, neither for Dan nor for the plot of the episode. Dan has a plan that requires him to clean up and visiting his gf is the most convenient way to do so and it provides the viewers with more of a sense of who he is as a person as well as giving us that brilliantly acted personality switch.
    I'd rate it a 4/5 personally.

    Don't have much to say about this one, other than your review is stellar, as usual.
    But I do have some thoughts about this channel. Somehow, you need an episode that will smash the algorithm. Part time Hobbit was a little viewed channel until her episode about Tom Bombadil hit the sweet spot and out of the park.
    I thought that some of your subjects, like "Obsolete Man" or "Time Enough at Last" might be the breakouts, or your "The Fly" reviews, but somehow no.
    There have been a few horror comedies out, and they might stand out...the Renfield movie (Nic Cage & Nicholas Hoult) or Warm Bodies (another Nicholas Hoult vehicle) are both decent flicks in my opinion and I'm sure your reviews would be well crafted. Maybe a comparison between Psycho A and Psycho B? Why Hitchcock's masterpiece works, why the scene for scene remake doesn't.
    Maybe expand over to Hitchcock Presents or Outer Limits?
    Addams Family vs The Munsters?
    Hit the vampires with stakes and bite the silver bullet with Twilight? Or classic Dracula, Universal vs Hammer?
    Or take on Taika Watiti and binge What We Do In the Shadows, movie and tv show? I mean sheesh, they're vampires in Staten Island and you're not talking about them!?? I taught youse was from New Yioyk!! 😅 Add his movie Jojo Rabbit, as real life horror.
    Something has to give you the visibility to be heard, you are too good to be relegated to the back corner of the Internet.
    Anyways, somehow the audience is out there, keep up the great work.
