    This is why I love 3d printing; being able to design solutions to problems that fit your own wants/needs

      I love 3d printing for the same reason. It's so nice to have a problem and know you can solve it with some time on the computer and a bit of plastic.

    Love the description - I still prefer the closed loop - would be interesting to see how they all hold up to longer term use and potential 'creep' of the plastic.

      Thanks. I prefer the look of the closed loop but fishing the bag through the hole got really old, really fast.

  • @Roobotics
    @Roobotics 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    The primary reason the loop is the strongest is there is no cantilever effect going on, mostly the forces are trying to deform it into the shape a rubber band would make around two points. One suggestion it'd make, it inset a small teardrop shape into the area the bag rests in on any of the designs, this will make it tend to stay there, but also not make extraction annoying like if it were a circle that forms sharp edges. The primary point of it actually isn't even to retain the bag, but to keep the bag as close as possible to the base, so it forms the smallest cantilever on the material.

    The whole ring doesn't have to be thicker. Just right around the area of the connection and then it can taper back to a thinner

    • @TheMrMused
      @TheMrMused 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Finite element analysis would have this sorted in 15 seconds flat. Not only a small section of the ring need to be thicker, the entire external tab doesn't need to be thicker either. The point where the ring and tab meet needs to be correctly fileted and the entry on the free end can be much thinner as well. FEA is one of the reasons I prototype in FreeCAD (FEM Workbench) rather than Fusion 360 (does FEA, but costs).
      Material selection is also critical here. Make it out of standard PLA and it'll need to be thick. Make it out of BASF Ultrafuse PLA PRO1 and it'll exceed the strength of ABS but print as easy as PLA.

      @dagod_yt1229 I don’t want the part to fail if the bag gets snagged on something. It’s not just the weight of the poop that needs to be considered.

      It eliminates a good portion of the vibration but I still feel it through my keyboard and mouse. It's not my original idea, CNC Kitchen has a good video about it: th-cam.com/video/y08v6PY_7ak/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vBMjuRZ4XZJO_0IT

    Nice. To help strengthen the open-loop design, you can have the path of the bag end going away from the center of the circle rather than radially around it, so that the final pulling motion isn't torqueing the arm as much.

    • @3DPrintStuff
      @3DPrintStuff  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that's a good suggestion. The radial arm does just create a lever arm for the bag to pull on.

    what dog poops 5lbs??

    • @3DPrintStuff
      @3DPrintStuff  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No dog. That is just what I decided to use as my pass/fail weight. If it can hold 5lbs it can hold onto any poop and can handle being pulled on my accident.
