cayman s is a great car, got mine recently after lotus ownership and its such a great car that can be everything you need a car to be. Unlike the lotus. The lotus is fun at any speed great in summer and lovely out on country roads. But when you just want to get somewhere without any hassle, your going shopping, The weather is dismal or you just woke up early and have to drive somewhere where you would rather you didnt then the lotus can be a real pain. Its harsh ride and lack of comforts in a situation when you arent on the road driving just for the thrill of it really make you wish you had something else. The Cayman is fast, comfy, capable in the corners and reliable. It can be whatever you need it to be. A motorway cruiser, a weekend toy, a commuter and all weather car or something to take to the track.
I love my Cayman S. The front of the new cayman is nicer but the roof line of the Gen 1 & 2 Caymans were better. This car has so much potential. Porsche was smart to power it down from their flagship. With the same engine as a Carrera it would be the flagship car.
I want too make something clear this video is called cayman mk1 but he actually means the first cayman model 987 in this video is is actually driving a mk2 987.2 2nd generation 2.9 PDK cayman. the new cayman model is a 981
@@charliefm826 Completely new engines plus a new automatic transmission (PDK was introduced in 987.2 and 997.2), the cosmetic changes were relatively insignificant compared to mechanical.
Ofc mid engine is what you see and love in supercars. However it's far from perfect with the Cayman. Take braking for example: the 911's breaks work close to 50/50 - with the cayman it's much more to the front. If you want to have fun, a cayman is much better than the rear-engine 911. But the latter wins you races.
I spent a year or so working for Canada's largest volume Porsche dealership. While the 911 range didn't enthuse me half as much as I'd hoped, the mk1 Cayman and mk2 Boxster definitely woke me up. It was great to drive a couple of cars that embraced the pleasures of driving, without the need for stratospheric speeds. The current Cayman and Boxster are, in my opinion, the cream of Porsche's crop.
P.S. The 2nd generation deserves being classed as the second model in the run due to the change of engies from 2.7 to 2.9 and the M97 3.4 engine becoming a new DFI 3.4 in teh form of the 9A1. Add to this the addition of the outting of the horrible tiptronic and introduction of the PDK along with LED tail lights, change of bumpers, addition of LED DRL's, change of PCM, and a change of suspension.
Sorry XCar but if you're going to mention something as pointless as bumper sharing then get it right. The Boxster and Cayman do not and have not ever shared bumpers. Front fenders and lights yes. Doors and hood are shared between 997 and 987 platforms. Good review overall

No it's a 2nd Generation. There is no such thing as a Mk1 in relaity as Porsche defined the facelifted version in 2009 as the 2nd Generation. So applying the "mark" label to it is not applicable, and if we do then the new 981 is the Mk3.

The car in the video is an MK2 by the looks of the dash and steering wheel, DFI motor right?
The cayman S (3.4) is DFI not the 2.9 but I don't know if the engine block in the 2.9 is an evolution of the 2.7 or the new block without the DFI.

Too bad the early caymans are plagued with the "IMS bearing failure curse". Getting a 2009 adds $10-15k depending on mileage
Dont over dramatize the issue. Its a rare failure, and I have never had an issue in 40K miles, nor have others I know that drive them.
