What Makes Someone Jewish? | Dr. Golan Broshi

  • Do we even need to ask this question? Apparently so. Being Jewish has always been an ethnicity, ever since Abraham, but over time "Judaism" has turned into a theology as conflicting sects of the Jewish people have argued the question of what it really means to be Jewish.
Check out this fascinating interview with Dr. Golan Broshi where we discuss what is a Jew, who is a Jew and why we even need to ask?
Golan Broshi was born and raised in Kibbutz Malkia in Israel. He has a bachelor's degree in Education, Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Haifa and a master's degree in Jewish Education at the University of Jerusalem. He completed his doctoral degree in Biblical Studies and Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary and is currently a professor at Israel College of the Bible - One for Israel.

If Yeshua Hamashiac is a Jew how do you stop being a Jew for believing in him? The devil is indeed a liar. His days are short. The Kingdom of God has started reigning. Hallelujah 🙏

I've been studying the history of early Christians and tbh, I'm completely stumped at why Christians aren't considered religiously Jewish. Well, Hebrew anyways. If the idea is that there's this new offshoot of Judaism, full of believing jews in Judea, and their concept of conversion is that you get absorbed into the nation of Israel when you believe in and accept their God, religion, laws and customs, then why aren't all of those who believe jesus is thr messiah just called nazarene Hebrews or something like that? Aren't they all now the same tribe?

That was a good explanation. I was born into a mostly secular Jewish home (Conservative - Ashkenazic), went to Hebrew school on Long Island and then had my Bar Mitzvah. I soon became an atheist (in the Freudian mold) but then got into the New Age as the supernatural seemed too real to deny. Still later, I became a lay Buddhist (Tibetan, and then Zen). Further along in my 30s, I got into New Age seminar trainings but slowly got into Hindu practices - puja, fire ceremonies, and chanting. I even followed A Course in Miracles (a gnostic Jesus) for a while. Nowhere did I feel afraid of not being considered a Jew - until I started to take the real Jesus seriously. Something about the real Jesus brought fear into me- if I followed Him, I would no longer be Jewish and cut off. This video reminds me of my Comp Religion training at University of WA (MA) where an orthodox Jewish professor talked about the debate on whether Judaism is a religion or a people.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Thank you both for taking on this topic and Golan for your depth in answering this question. I, like both of you, are Jewish and a believer. I grew up learning about Yeshua/Jesus yet still celebrated many, not all, of the Jewish holidays. I have been asked this question by my cousins so many times and the sheer obvious fact that my DNA is still Jewish, yet there’s a “problem”. It’s just as rational as, you may feel you’re the opposite sex but the reality is that your DNA tells you what you are-x and Y chromosomes. The truth is still the truth no matter what you believe!
Sometimes, sadly,in a very few churches, I didn’t fit in either because I am Jewish?!? I’m thankful that the Holy Spirit is strong enough in me that I’m able to let it roll off my back.

I think there’s a profound misunderstanding that rejection doesn’t happen among Gentiles as well. It is not just the Jews who are told that they are no longer a part of a culture or ethnicity for belief in Yeshua. Faith plays into many cultures over this world. And coming out of what is traditional to one’s people, country, ethnicity -comes at a cost. Faith in Jesus costs each one of us on the earth -not just the Jews. For many in Christ have suffered rejection by their own, even to the point of death. And yes, some are told that their belief in Jesus makes them no longer a part of their people ethically & culturally because it is seen as a betrayal. They are rejected for Christ. This is something our Messiah told us to expect in this life. He didn’t say that to be true just for the Jews. He said that for all who truly believe in Him.
Yes, Jesus was a Jew -but not just a Jew. He was the Word of God made flesh -and God is God overall all of mankind. God created Israel and God gave His only begotten Son as atonement not just for Israel -but all of mankind. The Jews didn’t just have a problem in the OT -all of mankind did. And if we understand Paul’s words in Romans 9-11, Gentiles don’t replace Jews and Jews don’t own or have superiority in Messiah or the faith. For there is no longer Jew or Gentile -but all are equal in Christ. And Abraham was to be the father of many nations, God would make nations of him...not just one nation. The question is not whether a Jewish believer in Jesus as Messiah is still a Jew -the question should be, who is a Jew according to the scriptures. And the answer is anyone who puts their faith in the work of Jesus Christ and lives according to the faith of Abraham. This is through the ingrafting of the wild and natural branches into one root -that is Christ. Yes, there are Jews ethnically according to the flesh. But the true Jew, as Golan mentioned around minute 4:00 -is the one who follows Christ and believes he is the Messiah -sent to redeem and reconcile all of mankind back to God.
The Christian church did a huge mistake very early on by selling out to Rome and divorcing Jew and Gentile (replacement theology which goes against the mystery of God, revealed through Christ). But praise God in these last days, God’s truth is being revealed throughout the world, including to the Jews in Israel. But let us not then make a mistake to keep the division going. There is no division or class separation in Christ. The Gospel came through the Jews first, and they spilled their blood for the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the first few centuries. Then they were wrongfully rejected and kicked out of the new Romanized church. But God always has His people to spread His word. And through faith and much blood spilled for their dedication to Christ, Gentile Christians continued to carry and proclaim the Gospel through the dark ages and into the Great Awakening -where the word of God was made available to commoners. And since then, there have been many missionary efforts to reach the world -Jews especially, with the Good News! It’s been the heart & desire of many Gentiles to take the Gospel back to where it started, and praise God we are seeing the fruit of that today.
The Great Commission was given to both Jew & Gentile and obeyed now by both Jew & Gentile. So in these last days let us make effort to no longer one-up each other, but in the Spirit of our LORD may we all unite as equal in Messiah. Because in Christ, who we are in the flesh makes no difference. Whether Jew, Greek, Chinese, European, African -it doesn’t matter. We have a new identity in Christ. The people of our culture and of this world, will reject us -so be it. But now we live as born-again spirit-filled creation in the image of our common Saviour. We are a people who live not for this world, but for the resurrection and world to come -to be forever in the presence of our King. For every tribe, nation, and tongue, this is the hope that unites. Let the Word of our LORD be praised forever & ever. Amen

There is only ONE true Holy Spirit inspired definition of what is a true Jew under the new covenant. Ishmael was a genetic son of Abraham but not a spiritual Jew. Esau was a pure son of Jacob ethnically but was NOT a spiritual Jew. You will never understand certain aspects of the Holy Spirit inspired New Covenant scriptures if you don't under this principle. Rahab was a Canaanite but through her faith she became a real Jew and ancestor of King David and Jesus. Faith in the heart is what made a real Jew under the old covenant and also under the new covenant. The TRUE Jews were always a remnant under the old covenant. The remnant during the days of Elijah was so small that Elijah complained to God that he was the only one worshiping God in his day with true faith. There were millions of Jews in those days and God corrected Elijah and told him that only 7000 Jews still worshiping God. The same applies today. There are approximately 1.5 billion baptized Christians today but the real Christians of faith are much smaller percentage---a remnant as in the old covenant. Circumcision did not make Esau and Ishmael spiritual Jews even though they had the genetics. You cannot make real Christians today without the faith of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Peter, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, tells us in 1Peter 1:23 ..."Being born again, not of corruptible see, but of incorruptible by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever."..... Jesus said in Mark 1 "the times are fulfilled the Kingdom of God is at hand repent and believe the Gospel." The children of God are spiritual children of faith and the Kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom---the mystical Church. .....Peace and love in Christ. May the Holy Spirit continued to bless you and lead you in your God-given ministry.
[3] For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
    2. Rom.2
[28] For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
[29] But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
    3. Gal.3
26] For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
[27] For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
[28] There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
[29] AND IF YE BE IN CHRIST, THEN ARE YE ABRAHAM'S SEED, AND HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE.
    -----------------------------------------
    1Pet.1
23] Being born again, not of CORRUPTIBLE SEED , but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
    ----------------------------------------------
Please listen to the Holy Spirit in the Word of God. You are doing a wonderful job bringing the Gospel to Jewish people in Israel. Don't weaken your ministry by preaching half truths and a certain pride of the flesh. Don't put any hope in the flesh.

We’re all broken sinners on our way to hell, before the Lord Jesus is finding us and we put our SAVING faith into Christ Jesus as BornAgain Believers! Immediately you’re feeling hungry and thirsty for God’s Words/ the Bible, to read it as much as you can and praying as much as you can!

Search for Him now and He shall make himself found by you!

By embracing the Torah and entering into Covenant with God. This means you inherit the commandments and all the promises given to Abraham.

My dad was raised in and partly educated by an ostensibly Christian organization. In the 1920s, he decided he didn’t agree with the doctrine that laity need clergy to tell them what to believe and what to do.
When I was a boy in the 1940s and ‘50s, Dad repeatedly advised me, “Read for yourself, study for yourself and think for yourself.”
The following is an alternative to some of the ways of thinking expressed in this video but there may be other ways of thinking about this subject that would make even more sense to some people. Because I plan to use the word, “religion”, I need to offer my definition of that word: Religion is the sum of those beliefs, practices and prohibitions that pertain to a person’s concept of the highest powers of the universe.
    Is Judaism an ethnicity?
I use the word, “Hebrew” to refer to the physical descendents of Abraham through Isaac and Israel (Jacob). I consider “Hebrew” to be their ethnicity.
I realize that, for a long time, the words, Israelite”, and, later, “Jew” were widely considered to be references to the ethnic group I prefer to call, “Hebrews”. However, I agree with John the baptist that God can raise up children of Abraham from the very rocks (not merely from the physical descendents of Israel). I agree with Jesus that many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. But (some of) the children of the kingdom (I consider this to be a reference to Hebrews) shall be cast out into outer darkness. I agree with Paul that he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: but he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. Romans 2:28 & 29 Which is why I prefer to use the words, “Israelites”, and “Jews” to refer to people who have the faith of Abraham, Isaac and Israel.
I consider the faith of Jesus to be the true continuation of the faith of Abraham.
    What is conversion?
I prefer to not use the word, “conversion”, as a reference to a person abandoning one set of religious traditions for another. I prefer to use the word, “conversion”, to refer to the miracle whereby a person’s trust is transferred from what he thought he could do to save himself from sin or its consequences to what the Lord does to save (justify, sanctify and glorify) us.
We don’t have a record of Jesus condemning all of the traditions of Judaism but he did condemn some of them and, it seems to me, he tried to encourage a religion based on the Hebrew Bible (the Tanakh). Conversely, I think of Judaism - ancient or modern - as being based mostly on traditions.
I’ve had enough conversations with Christians whose appeal is primarily to traditions rather than to the Bible to be satisfied that most people in the English-speaking world think of Christianity as based primarily on traditions. I suspect Jesus would have a similar attitude toward traditionalist “Christianity” as he had toward Judaism. Maybe that is what was intended, in this video, by the distinction between Messianic Judaism and Rabbinic Judaism. ?
The gentlemen in the video probably are aware of this - most English-speaking people are not - the reason the word “church” doesn’t appear in most English translations of the Hebrew Bible is that our English word, “church”, in English translation of the Greek additions to Bible is a translation of the Greek word, ekklisia (Εκκλησία). When translating Hebrew words that refer to believers, English translators have generally used the words, “assembly”, or “congregation”.
It is my understanding that, as used in the Bible, the phrase “the church” is a reference to people who have the faith of Abraham - either all such people anywhere in the world or to believers in a specific location. So I consider it consistent with this principle for Stephen to have used the phrase, “the church”, to refer to the believers who were camped at Sinai (Acts 7:38).
Traditions are not evil per se but one tradition in particular seems to me to disqualify rabbinnic Judaism from being called a church - the tradition of denying that Jesus of Nazareth is the true Messiah. Failure to affirm that Jesus is the Messiah wouldn’t be as much of a problem.
The other side of that coin is that nominal Christians were just as wrong to condemn all Hebrews - even those who were not yet born when Jesus was crucified - as guilty of deicide (killing God) or to condemn all observant Hebrews - even those who didn’t pretend to know whether Jesus was the Messiah - as being “of the synagogue of Satan”.
I'm delighted that hatred of Hebrews by professed Christians isn’t ubiquitous as it once was but I disagree with the branch of eschatology that represents Hebrews as being saved by an entirely different method than that offered to non-Hebrews.

I love your videos!!! Greetings from South Africa. From my Christian perspective, I think that the Rabbi's tend to focus too much on worldly issues and that they have burdened themselves with so many of their own man made laws that they fail even in their dedication to Yahweh, let alone have the time or inclination to investigate for themselves the true existence of Christ. I pray that many more Jews will move away from tradition, remove the blinkers and come to Jesus.

This is a truly fascinating topic. I'm a mutt from the US. My closest tie anywhere is England because I'm half English. But that isn't the same at all. I mention this as being fascinating because in the early church there was a movement to "Judaize" the new followers of Yeshua, and the Jerusalem church said no that wasn't necessary to be Christian, but what about Jewish folks who accept Yeshua? I have never contemplated this angle. Thank you so much for these thought provoking videos with such lovely people. The Christian teaching about "Judaizers" is unhelpful. It goes hand in hand with replacement theology which is anti-Jewish and anti-Torah and all contributed to the persecution of Jews by the church. As Gentile believers, grafted in, we can only apologise.

Wrong. Judaizers( converted Pharisees) were a biblical problem. Read Galatians. It’s clear that they were trying to make gentile Christians conform to Judaism and they were trying to make a distinction between Jewish and Gentile Christians.
Peter fell into this and even refused to eat with Gentiles according to the Old Testament law, but was rebuked by Paul to the face. This was a serious sin because Peter had already had a vision from Jesus saying that Gentiles are not unclean anymore.(“what I have cleansed call thou not common”)
Paul explains this all throughout Romans 9-11 and Ephesians 2 and Galatians. It’s all over the New Testament.
The church, or the elect, are the true Israel of God according to Paul. Israel of the flesh is likened to Ishmael and the church is likened to Isaac, the sin of the promise. Ephesians says that Jesus took down the wall of separation making of the two, one new man. To put that partition back up is anti gospel and anti christ.

You guys are fantastic, and you are doing a great job! As a Catholic, it has been obvious to me for some time, that the true Jews in flesh and spirit are Jews who believe in Christ. Since the whole of the Old Testament in its prophecies announces Christ, its center is the figure of the Messiah, and they are true Jews in spirit who follow this tradition that points to the Messiah who came to save us over 2000 years ago. On the other hand, those who betrayed the Holy Scripture, they departed from the true tradition, which was initiated by Abraham, perfected by Moses, which led until the time of Christ, and if we were to accept their point of view on Jewishness, they should explain whether they are really Jews

    ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3‬:‭28‬-‭29‬
“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.”
    ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭19‬-‭21‬ ‭
“As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith.”
    ‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭

It's similar to my situation but not entirely. For a Hispanic with a deep-rooted culture and with Catholic grow-up. Catholics and the church don't keep and go by the word of God at heart and practice. The Catholic church made up certain beliefs that don't correlate to the truth in the Holy Bible (The belief of the purgatory, the worship of angels and saints, parts of the sacraments, and added scriptures by false prohets) and those who are Catholics don’t live the way Jesus Christ has asked us to live through the true apostles. To live by the truth in the Bible and to turn from sin as believers of Christ in the new covenant or the new testament. If I were to say this to Catholics or my Catholic family, I would be frowned upon and shunned because I turn from both my culture and cultural religion. So, Christianity is the true religion we believers of God the Father, the Holy Son: Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit should turn to. Along with dropping the cultural sins that keep us truly away from Jesus Christ and God.

    Romans 2
25 If you follow the law, then your circumcision has meaning. But if you break the law, then it is as if you were never circumcised. 26 The non-Jews are not circumcised. But if they do what the law says, then it is as if they were circumcised. 27 You Jews have the written law and circumcision, but you break the law. So those who are not circumcised in their bodies, but still obey the law, will show that you are guilty.
28 A person is not a true Jew if he is only a Jew in his physical body. True circumcision is not only on the outside of the body. 29 A person is a true Jew only if he is a Jew inside. True circumcision is done in the heart by the Spirit, not by the written law. Such a person gets praise from God, not from other people.
    Did you get that?!

He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you[b] will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

I am just blown away by all of this as I learn more and more about the Old Testament and the New Testament in my desire to know the absolute truth and as much as I can about the Bible and about God. I can see why the 7 years of the Tribulation has nothing to do with the Gentiles and everyone else that follows Jesus and has everything to do with God dealing with the Jews. Like I said I’m not commenting to judge, insult, or condemn anyone. I know that the Jewish people are Gods chosen people and I highly respect them and constantly pray for the peace of Israel. WHO is a BIBLICAL Jew according to Gods word?? those jews AND Gentiles who have faith in christ.....here is galations 3:
Consider the experience of Abraham; as the scripture says, "He believed God, and because of his faith God accepted him as righteous."
7 You should realize, then, that the real descendants of Abraham are the people who have faith.
8 The scripture predicted that God would put the Gentiles right with himself through faith. And so the scripture announced the Good News to Abraham: "Through you God will bless all people."
9 Abraham believed and was blessed; so all who believe are blessed as he was.
10 Those who depend on obeying the Law live under a curse. For the scripture says, "Whoever does not always obey everything that is written in the book of the Law is under God's curse!"
11 Now, it is clear that no one is put right with God by means of the Law, because the scripture says, "Only the person who is put right with God through faith shall live."
12 But the Law has nothing to do with faith. Instead, as the scripture says, "Whoever [does] everything the Law requires will live."
13 But by becoming a curse for us Christ has redeemed us from the curse that the Law brings; for the scripture says, "Anyone who is hanged on a tree is under God's curse."
14 Christ did this in order that the blessing which God promised to Abraham might be given to the Gentiles by means of Christ Jesus, so that through faith we might receive the Spirit promised by God.
15 My friends, I am going to use an everyday example: when two people agree on a matter and sign an agreement, no one can break it or add anything to it.
16 Now, God made his promises to Abraham and to his descendant. The scripture does not use the plural "descendants," meaning many people, but the singular "descendant," meaning one person only, namely, Christ.
17 What I mean is that God made a covenant with Abraham and promised to keep it. The Law, which was given four hundred and thirty years later, cannot break that covenant and cancel God's promise.
18 For if God's gift depends on the Law, then it no longer depends on his promise. However, it was because of his promise that God gave that gift to Abraham.
19 What, then, was the purpose of the Law? It was added in order to show what wrongdoing is, and it was meant to last until the coming of Abraham's descendant, to whom the promise was made. The Law was handed down by angels, with a man acting as a go-between.
20 But a go-between is not needed when only one person is involved; and God is one.
21 Does this mean that the Law is against God's promises? No, not at all! For if human beings had received a law that could bring life, then everyone could be put right with God by obeying it.
22 But the scripture says that the whole world is under the power of sin; and so the gift which is promised on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ is given to those who believe.
23 But before the time for faith came, the Law kept us all locked up as prisoners until this coming faith should be revealed.
24 And so the Law was in charge of us until Christ came, in order that we might then be put right with God through faith.
25 Now that the time for faith is here, the Law is no longer in charge of us.
26 It is through faith that all of you are God's children in union with Christ Jesus.
27 You were baptized into union with Christ, and now you are clothed, so to speak, with the life of Christ himself.
28 So there is no difference between Jews and Gentiles, between slaves and free people, between men and women; you are all one in union with Christ Jesus.
29 If you belong to Christ, then you are the descendants of Abraham and will receive what God has promised . those who reject christ are NOT abrahams children but are children of the devil.
Jesus in john ch 8 told jews who rejected him that they were children of the devil.....AS are Gentiles who reject Jesus. 1st john 2:23 says.....3 No one who denies the Son can have the Father; he who confesses the Son has the Father as well.. its very simple, Jews and gentiles who believe in and trust the lord Jesus christ to save them are children of abraham, jews and Gods people......Jews and gentiles who reject Jesus are NOT true jews or children of God but are children of satan. ethnicity means NOTHING!, race means NOTHING, the ONLY thing that matters is faith in the lord Jesus christ. NEXT......nobody who calls themselves "Jewish" today can prove thier linege back to biblical times, most "jews" are from russia and europe and arent at all related to the real ethnic jews from 2000+ years ago, it doesnt matter anyway. I dont get this obsession with whether or not someone is a ethnic jew.

I was not born a Jew but grafted into the tree by faith in Yeshua, I live in Brazil, and many people are converting to Yeshua here. What matters is that the gospel is being preached all over the world to Jews and to all nations. Yeshua is the Messiah, some Jews are still blind but there are the Jews who believe like the Apostle Paul. Yeshua did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. Yeshua fulfilled everything that was written about him in the Tanakh. Yeshua is the Messiah, it is better to discover this in life than after death when there will be no more free will because man is ordered to die once, after that the judgment follows. Yeshua is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

On a related note about following different religions for a Jew to return to their land. The word Atheist during the Roman Empire did not exactly mean the same thing it does today. At that time it was not about someone believing there is no God, it meant someone who did not believe in the officially recognized gods of the Roman empire. The more things change in this present age the more they remain the same.

man this video was unbelievably engaging despite the content being sorta academic! I have a question does that mean after I was saved am I a Jew in the Spirit? But if I said that, someone might take a dig at me and say that I must get circumcized or not eat pork/shellfish?
That's my question but in addition to that, I have an interesting story to tell which is sorta related to this:
I never eat pork/shellfish since I was 16 cause of allergies to pork and shellfish but it wasn't for religious reasons but the allergies started due to odd circumstances...
So I'm an anglo-Indian raised Catholic. Forced to attend mass on Sundays by my dad but he does not believe in the deity of Jesus and is a practicing Freemason. Was going to be inducted first as a masonic steward but dodged a bullet there because I was too lazy to go for the meeting.
Anyway, one Sunday morning I was at Mass and during the first reading of the liturgy, the priest was reading from Leviticus, specifically the dietary requirement. I was 15 then, a voice said quietly in my head at church at the time "You are Israel". I was agnostic and hated going to church, have no history of auditory/visual hallucinations or even dreams so this was super weird but it made me very angry because I loved eating pork roast my grandma would make. I had such a rage and I had a sense that this was God and I told "i'm not Israel I love eating pork". I then had the same voice tell it to me in a dream 3 days at the same time consecutively ( I would fall into a deep sleep at 3 pm, it was summer holidays). Each time I would become enraged and start mocking God saying I'm going to eat more pork. Then the next week I had asthma when I ate pork. First time ever. Then I said to myself "a wild coincidence". I love crab I'll eat crab, we had a family get together the next weekend. I happily served myself crab and I had an anaphylactic shock, really hardcore allergic reaction.
This annoyed me so much that I would stop going to church as soon as I turned 18, would sometimes be part of the choir to meet girls. Then I stopped entirely and lived agnostic/atheist for years until another supernatural set of events happened in my late 20's I'm 33 now and a born again believer in Yeshua.
I still do wish God would remove the allergies so that I could eat pork and shellfish again. I never liked prawn but I did like crab.
Perhaps the lesson of this story is, if you hear God saying you are Israel, it's better to not challenge it.

Matthew 5:17-20 KJV Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
No where in the Holy Scriptures does it permit to eat unclean animals. Hashem is respector of freedom. For example, we are free to do whatever we want, whenever we want. If we want to eat unclean food, will we die immediately? Maybe, maybe not, that's up to Hashem. But more than likely you will go on living your life. Have you ever skinned a Raccoon? I am a Traditional Tanner by trade. After skinning, the grotesque amount of lotion like fat that is left on the carcass is enough to make you sick just by looking at it. Racoons are not "biblically clean". The do not chew the cud and are not cloven footed. Eating unclean animals has been proven to be detrimental to the human health. I strongly believe that a Heshem reformed minded individual will heed Yahweh. They will hear his voice and act on it. I pray you strength to overcome your struggles my brother. Stay rooted in the word and renew your mind daily. Meditate on Hashems laws, commandments and statutes. Shalom

@@JerGossett6 Unfortunately that's the heresy the modern churches teach. Why would Yeshua Hamashiach (THE SON OF HASHEM) speak these words, Matthew 5:20 KJV "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." And also in another place, Matthew 23:23-28 KJV "23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity." Did you just catch that? Yeshua Hamashiach told the Jews that they had righteousness in and of themselves and not through Hashem. They observed the law and lived in to the T and dotted their I's. Just as we read in 1 Samuel 4. The isrealites took faith that the Ark of The Covenant, a physical form of Yahweh, was going to "protect" them. They did not put their faith, trust, and righteousness into Hashem. Observe the weighted matters of the law, clean the inside man(judgment. Mecy. Faith.) so that the outer man is made clean and NOT to leave the OTHER undone. Define OTHER: FOLLOWING HASHEMS ORDINANCES, OBSERVING HIS STATUES, AND LIVING BY HIS COMMANDMENTS. Some even say that "Christian's are allowed to eat any unclean thing they want because Yeshua said so". This also is heresy. Nowhere in the old or new testament is this even remotely true. I pray you find truth and true freedom in Gods perfect law, fulfilled through Yeshua Hamashiach. To close, Aposlte Paul stated thus, Romans 2:29 "But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God." When KJ translated the word "Letter" here, in our modern language it would say, being a Jew does not come only from observing the law, instead, it is a complete change from the Spirit of Yahweh and that person does not seek praise of people but his praise he seeks from Hashem because that person fully loves to please Hashem, not making the law an Idol in and of itself to by holy or worthy but living through Christ one Fufills all. With brotherly love.🙏🛐
