Thanks so much for the video! I bought a replacement battery and when I got home, I opened the hood and thought to myself “WTF is all this crap on top of the battery???”. You’re definitely right, changing a battery is not as straightforward as it used to be! Your video made this job much, much less intimidating.
Great instructions, Mark. Made this SO quick and easy to do. One tip that worked better for me: instead of removing the top bolt on the vertical brace, I removed the two from the horizontal brace and the one on the battery tray and removed them together as an assembly.
I have been pretty lazy with my truck and wasn't expecting the plastic battery cover. Thanks for the video, always nice watching some one else do it and remove all doubts.
Thanks man, they made it seem so hard even though it looks easy when looking at it. After watching your video it was as easy as it should have been. Thanks again.
Excellent video Mark; I appreciate you doing it. I followed along with you and it made a job that looked intimidating easy. ...and you are correct; the new battery goes in much easier than the old one came out!
Thanks Mark, I was worried about replacing the battery myself because my Uncle who had an almost exact same truck as I do (2015 GMC SIERRA 1500 5.3L V8 4X4 CREW CAB) ran into issues with the computer system and ended up taking it in to GMC to get fixed. Luckily, after watching your video and confidently swapping my own battery out, all was good. I didn't notice needing to do all the computer re-learning steps... But I did them anyhow. Thanks for the video and detailed step by step directions!
Nice video. Thanks. I helped replace my son’s battery on 2014 sierra. I removed both cables towards firewall. Gave me more access! Only GM would make battery more difficult to replace than necessary! Again great video! Really helped us!
To make it easier to remove and replace the battery (if the battery has no handle) use a ratchet strap rigged around the center of the battery once it is disconnected from the holder tray. Circle the battery with the strap and tighten it. This will give you something to hold onto to take the battery in/out.
Just replaced the battery in my ‘14 Sierra….really not as bad as some make it out to be. Don’t take the reservoir out…it’s not even remotely necessary. Lay the buss bar brick over as directed in the video and tip the battery over and yank it out…..doesn’t even have to be laid down….just tip it a bit….thanks for the video.
Excellent video! However, there’s two tensioner clips on both sides of the mega fuse box!!!! I found it easier to just remove all bolts and and then tension clips. Will pop right off, just remember to take a picture to remember where everything goes
Thanks. Helpful to bungee cord the plastic box top towards the drivers side to keep it out of your way, and a VERY LIGHT dab of dielectric grease on terminals and threads you removed/installed.
Hey mark. Thanks for the video on how to change the battery. I can’t find the video describing what to do after the new battery is replaced. I was hoping you could send me a link for that? Thanks. Happy New Year
A bungee cord on the fuse box thing that covers the top of the battery would help pull that away and keep it away so you wouldn't have to keep messing with it
Was about to attemp to change my battery after watching this video I realized it’s worth it paying to get it done. Auto zone / advance auto all ran away from changing battery after I bought it 😞
I have switched both batteries. Now I'm looking for the post install links you talked about at the beginning to reset and recalibrate. I can't seem to find them. Radio, some lights, and windows not working.
Lower bracket and upper bracket bars can be removed as one assembly. Also the coolant bottle can be moved by removing bolt at base near battery. AND NO BOLTS ARE SAE SIZES, ALL BOLTS, NUTS, ETC., USED ON GM FOR THESE MODEL YEARS ARE METRIC. I believe the bracket bolts are 13mm others are 10 and other. AGAIN, ALL BOLTS ARE METRIC. Not a warm fuzzy feeling watching the rest of this video.
I just did mine yesterday and I'm just wondering about the posts on that mega box cover and if they are configured/wired based on the specific battery? Or do they always stay the same?
I have an 18 Sierra and I had to remove one of the bolts holding the coolant overflow tank and flex the tank as I removed the old battery and installed the new one. Just barely enough room. Nothing is simple anymore.
Hi mark, I changed it and accidentally hit One of the mega fuse box bolts with the ratchet and it made a spark now the truck doesn’t want to turn on with the new battery do you have any idea what it could have been?
Thank you so much for the video. How did you do it to save the programming on the truck before you took the battery off? I was told that you have to save the memory on the vehicle before disconnecting battery.
So all the really important stuff your not going to talk about..WTF dude I removed thd negative battery cable per instructions for the work I am doing. Now after hooking it back up truck won't start do to security crap.Thats the kind of info folks need. How to plan ahead and fix real problems

Remember the good old days when changing a battery was a 10 minute job and all you needed was an adjustable wrench? Good times
We were driving 230 hp pickups with ac if you were lucky. Heater and am radio and seats that were horrible...

Hey Mark. Just finished changing the battery in my 2015 Sierra - thanks for the detailed information. Made it a lot easier.

It's a great place for a vacation we were there for about 4 weeks and we loved it. We were there for bike week and stayed longer!! 😎
Hey Mark,
Great video Sir, Also a great call out for including the relearning steps!
Excellent video Mark; I appreciate you doing it. I followed along with you and it made a job that looked intimidating easy. ...and you are correct; the new battery goes in much easier than the old one came out!
Mark, thanks for posting this video. Your detail explanation to the steps involved certainly made my day.

Good stuff….a trick I use is a small bungy cord to hold the Fuse block back and out of the way.
I did same way with my 2015 sierra. Also took out bolt to antifreeze tank next to battery. Moved it a few inches from battery for more room.

Mark, thanks for the video, you were spot on. Just changed my battery today.

Holding the "mega fuse box" back with a small bungee cord would be a lot easier there. Instead of it constantly flopping back in your way.
Mark Jenkins thanks for the video tho.....I'll be doing that sometime in the near future.
Great video! I had to remove the nut to the coolant tank to get the battery out. Other than that no hiccups.
Hey mark. Thanks for the video on how to change the battery. I can’t find the video describing what to do after the new battery is replaced. I was hoping you could send me a link for that? Thanks. Happy New Year
Great video I just did mine but I can't find out what you did after the battery was in
This is one of those moments when you really want to punch a engineer
A bungee cord on the fuse box thing that covers the top of the battery would help pull that away and keep it away so you wouldn't have to keep messing with it
Thanks me and my dad needed this
Was about to attemp to change my battery after watching this video I realized it’s worth it paying to get it done. Auto zone / advance auto all ran away from changing battery after I bought it 😞
Did you have a "Low battery" warning light come on your dashboard to indicate a bad battery?
There must be an automotive engineer somewhere that thinks up how to make it as difficult as possible to do simple things on vehicles.
Right?!!!! 😆😁🤣
Thank you most helpful video
I have switched both batteries. Now I'm looking for the post install links you talked about at the beginning to reset and recalibrate. I can't seem to find them. Radio, some lights, and windows not working.
Nice video Mark, I subscribed. May need good help on my 2018

I did mine w/o removing it, and I should've. It was an enormous pain getting the new one in.
FYI all hardware is Metric 13mm and 14mm sockets
and 10 mm for battery posts
Great informative video thanks!
Hi mark, I changed it and accidentally hit One of the mega fuse box bolts with the ratchet and it made a spark now the truck doesn’t want to turn on with the new battery do you have any idea what it could have been?
Thank you Mark I was able to change my battery of my Silverado 2016 very grateful for your help blessings
Thank you for this video it was very helpful 👍🏿👍🏿
Couldn't find the link. I need to change my battery ASAP
What a pain in the ass. Come on man what happen to the old days when Changing a battery was most easiest thing to do on a vehicle
Good old GMC engineering, surprised they don't make you take off the valve cover to gain enough clearance.
Thank you so much for the video. How did you do it to save the programming on the truck before you took the battery off? I was told that you have to save the memory on the vehicle before disconnecting battery.
H7 is factory but H6 works fine and is 100% easier to put back in
I held them side by side at the store and they were the same size. Certainly the H7 is heavier though.
So all the really important stuff your not going to talk about..WTF dude I removed thd negative battery cable per instructions for the work I am doing. Now after hooking it back up truck won't start do to security crap.Thats the kind of info folks need. How to plan ahead and fix real problems
what battery number is it?? My truck es Chevy Silverado 2014
H6 or H7. I put an H7 in mine, AGM.
Got it thank you !
Removed brace and turned battery sideways, no problem
No wires need to be removed from the buss box. Just disconnect from the battery....DUH!
What a pain in the ass. thanks for the video
put a bungie cord on that fuse block
Why did GM design it like that
What a shit show !!!!!! Half way thru it and I'm really wondering why GM would make it so difficult to replace a battery 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Thankfully you only have to do it at most every 5 year, realistically though every 7 or 8.
I should have kept my 06 Sierra - what a stupid design!
That is WAAAAAAY too much trash to do just for taking a battery out.
Agreed. But you may only do it once or twice.
