As a kid - when I was growing up back in Nigeria - in the 1960s and 1970s I had dogs as pets and so did family friends - so grew up with dogs all around us!
So saw that lock thing with dogs after sex - that James mentioned - SO TRUE! FACTS!
It always fascinated me. I could never understand why the male and female dogs would be stuck together after sex!
So rumours started amongst the kids that this ALSO happened to adult humans as well - it put the fear of God in us - Especially since some other child claimed that a husband and wife were stuck together for DAYS and in the end had to leave their bedroom and people were looking at the husband and wife stuck together out in the street for 3 days! Unable to escape from each other! IT PUT THE FEAR OF GOD IN US KIDS TO GROW UP AND HAVE SEX!!😂
I look back and realise how false that story was of the couple - at least an ambulance would have carted them off not leave them there as exhibits for 3 days
Mum had all our male dogs spayed and as a kid I would watch one of my dogs during the heating period sit there looking with the pen#s sticking out. The pink bit. It was like a lipstick and that pink bit only came out when other neighbours' dogs were on heat.💄 Then the pink bit would disappear after that period and his privates looked normal again.
It fascinated me why my poor dog would sit there with that pink lipstick (pen#s) out and our house- maid explained it had been spayed. It was a guard dog too so had to be chained in the end, because it went after a woman who trespassed into our yard carrying all this luggage and stuff!
Her plan was to cut through our garden (as a short cut) and get to her home on the other street - she ignored the "Beware of Guard Dog" Signage! My dog thought she was a burglar who had stolen stuff and went for her!😮 The dog did not harm her or bite her. It just pushed her to the ground and held her down until one of us ( someone from our household) commanded him to release her! It was trained to hold intruders down until one of us or tgd Policd arrived. There was a lot of burglaries happening in our area (it was quite an affluent neighbourhood), but they NEVER came to our home. When our neighbours saw that - many neighbours got guard dogs too as a deterence.
The Burglaries stopped! But we kids just played with each others dogs - to us they were just pet dogs

Listened to the podcast and this has been bugging me! I’m a violinist. Strings USED TO be made from the guts of animals, sheep, goats etc. but haven’t been for a very long time. Some people may use them for period instruments. But that’s super rare. Strings are made from steel mostly typically with a nylon core. Among other things. But you are correct about the bow. They’re strung with horse hair.
