Wow, I attended this concert, it was an amazing day, just beautiful vibes all around. Believe it or not, Dylan was also on the bill, and the Dead played backup for him. Dylan and the Dead on an otherworldly Southern California day, how much better can you get than that?
The 80s were a great era for Minglewood. I liked how they changed it up in '79 when they added the guitar intro and changed to a more concise, rhythmic bass line and drum beat.
Brent & Jerry had such a rapport! I always tried to position myself right between them, as close as I could get. I was at that last Brent show, Tinley Park. After that, I stopped going to shows. Heartbroken.
I remember the old days Jerry and Bobby playing at the field house at UVM those were the days. I remember it all still loving it all. Will always be in my memory From Patti Cornell
How I got here tonight: a friend on Twitter sent Amanda Palmer a link to George Harrison doing Devil & the Deep Blue Sea on ukelele, which was from a TV movie Jools Holland did in the 90's, which also featured John Sebastian sitting on the porch steps of some little country store playing this song, which led me here. It always comes back to the Dead, doesn't it?
I was at this show and the Madonna show, which was a night or two before. I bought the same shirt as a gift for a buddy who was also at this show and wearing the shirt
I got here in a strange way. Watching a Gettysburg battle walk with Ranger Matt Atkinson who made some reference to song lyrics and when no one got it said, 'Hasn't anyone heard of the New Minglewood Blues?"
One show for me in '91. RFK stadium Washington DC. Wish I had followed them around in Europe 72, but that's when I was born. Brent here was good on keys, but Keith Godchaux was unbelievable in the early to mid 70s.
I would've given anything to see Jerry during one of these periods of semi-sobriety in the late 70's or mid to late 80's. I was in 8th grade when he came to Tampa in '95 but I didn't go. In hindsight he was back on the junk and I heard it wasn't a great show. Maybe I just tell myself that though
Every show had its moments of transcendence & brilliance despite whatever internal/external gremlins were mucking about. I can honestly say I never saw a bad Dead show. Some were pretty rough....but I was always grateful to be there. NFA⚘
@DeadReckoning I like that way of seeing it. I would love to be able to go back even just to see their worst show. I know I'd love it regardless and the overall vibe. I only caught one of their shows sometime in 91 at RFK stadium in Washington DC. It was awesome 👌
Lyrics for y'all, love this tune and the dead plays it better than any one else for sure! I was born in a desert, raised in a lion's den I was born in a desert, raised in a lion's den And my number one occupation is stealing women from their men Well I'm a wanted man in Texas, busted jail and I'm gone for good Well I'm a wanted man in Texas, busted jail and I'm gone for good Well the sheriff couldn't catch me But his little girl sure wished she would Yes and the doctor call me crazy, some says I am some says I ain't (note a) Yes and the doctor call me crazy, some says I am some says I ain't The preacher man call me a sinner, but his little girl call me a saint Well a couple of shots of whiskey, women round here start lookin' good Well a couple of shots of whiskey, women round here start lookin' good (note b) Couple more shots of whiskey, I'm goin' back to Minglewood It's T for Texas, yes and it's T for Timbuctoo (note c) It's T for Texas, yes and it's T for Timbuctoo Yes and it's T for [San Francisco - or wherever!] Where the little girls know what to do

Brent & Jerry had such a rapport! I always tried to position myself right between them, as close as I could get. I was at that last Brent show, Tinley Park. After that, I stopped going to shows. Heartbroken.
Brent was a force of nature....& supremely talented. The band was never the same after he checked out.
Brent was great. Did he play on Europe 72? That was my favorite on keys / piano.
Great composition, awesome performance, the Dead at its best!
Anthem. Just perfect in every way. :)
the Dead never die.

HOT DAMN!! THAT was SMOKIN’!! Jerry, of course, with those fills at the end of each like on the lower register? Again, HOT DAMN!!!
