We grew up quite poor, and none of my quality furniture matches. What is made today feels cheap, so I hang on to my "good stuff." Few know how to sew, knit, crochet anymore. Covid damaged my lungs, and at 64, I'm on oxygen 24 hours a day--forever. So that means that art is my life, creating it, watching it, classes, videos, etc., which is why I absolutely love your tutorials, Diane. Your comments about your health, spoken thoughts, all things I shake my head affirmatively, sending healing vibes. I think I speak for many here when I say that we LOVE your videos! Feels like we're sitting beside a friend chatting, laughing hysterically, creating memories. Can't thank you enough for your many gifts, Diane. It's a special club we belong to watching your channel. Half art, half friendship.
Hi Fanna, thanks for your kind comments, lovely to read. So sorry that you have been damaged by Covid. That really sucks. Is there any chance of improvement? I also have a breathing problem, I think I was one of the very first to have Covid, back before the pandemic struck. My son used to teach in a school which was full of Chinese children, and they were always bringing their germs to school when they returned from the holidays. In the winter of 2019 they visited us after the Christmas holidays, and his son had a strange fever, cough and malaise. I caught it from him and spent a week in bed. After that, when I finally recovered, my lifelong asthma, which had been very mild, became very severe and I needed steroids - I now have to take an inhaler every day, which I am certain is due to that illness which I’m sure was an early version of Covid. (I don’t share this with everyone for obvious reasons.) Like you I have mismatched and random furniture in my house, much of which has sentimental value but not much more!) although I did recently buy a new reclining couch and chair! I despair of the way the world has been ruined and knowing that so many like you are out there getting a bit of benefit from what I do is basically the reason I’m alive. I appreciate every word you have written, thank you so very much xxx
@@DianeAntoneStudio My husband enjoys shopping at all kinds of places, & I think he brought Covid home that way. He was quite ill, then I contracted it from him. We have a condo in a 55+ community, lovely place, but the other old folks here jokingly held up a skull & crossbones at us when we checked mail! Lol. All the while, talking through their shirts as makeshift masks! Like you, I had mild asthma, now high levels of oxygen 24/7 forever--Covid's gift. I absolutely agree yours was contracted by your son's school. Tough gig, Diane. But I must say how much we all enjoy your channel! The laughs, thoughts, art, animals, neighbors, so much fun! You've attracted a devoted following, Diane, & we are the better for it! :) PS: Can you please tell me what 250, 200 & 125 gr. are in cups or ounces for your coconut cake? I tried to research it, alas, no good results! Amazon's Alexa said 7.5 oz, but she's unreliable. Dying to make it! Many thanks Diane, & have a lovely weekend!
Loved this! Going to do quite a few sheets of circles, ready for when I get home from work late in the evening. Discovered last week if I start doodling, my mind completely relaxes, so I can easily go to sleep afterwards. Very therapeutic, thankyou xx
Each time I watch one of your videos I get inspired! I just love spending my time learning from you! You are an amazing teacher! You bring so much joy to my day! Thank you!
You really do make me want to paint like I had planned on doing as a child. Now that I am older than you, I'm finally able to start because I bought that Kuretake set of paints you like so much and hope for the best. Thanks for being such a great teacher, story teller, and just a great role model for us all.
My favorite Martian was my absolute favorite! I shred a portion of your story with my husband. His mother was born in England in 1904. He really enjoyed that part of the story. He’s 77 and I am 65. He also liked my circles I haven’t doodled on them yet. I’m a new member.
Please don't say your parents were nobody because they were working class. Everybody is somebody; wealth doesn't equal worth. You are definitely a very talented somebody. Loved the painting and the doodling.
They were „nobody“ in the sense that term is used in the UK to describe someone who isn‘t related to royalty, blue-blooded or listed in Who‘s Who! They were obviously not nobody to me - however at that time I was estranged from my father and my mother had died many years before. I was lucky to inherit the brains and talent they both had which they were never able to put to good use. The woman who asked that question was extremely well connected and her family had buckets of blue blood and were very much listed in Who‘s Who and any other important publication. She was the type to have her photo on the front of Country Life when she „came out“ at the age of 19 and was offered on the social marriage market in London. Think Downton Abbey and you‘ve got the idea.
Many people who are the average person on the street are much more friendly & kind compared to others who have more$$$& status..there are exceptions on both sides,of course
I wish people would not try to “correct” others without walking where that individual has walked. OR just try painting & talking at the same time. Yikes! Both sides of the brain at one time, back and forth…that’s genius stuff.
Loved this video, thank you! I’m 74, and I loved My Favorite Martian … and I was also infatuated with Ray Walston! Also a big science fiction fan (both then and now), you named some of my favorite authors! What a lovely surprise to find a “kindred soul” in you. 🥰
Hi Linda, lovely to hear from you and meet a kindred spirit, and to know that I am not alone in my weird fancies! I wonder what it was about Ray Walton that I found so fascinating?
@@DianeAntoneStudio Ray Walston was not good-looking, as you said, but he projected a wry sense of humor that appealed to me. He was also in Popeye, and had a great sympathetic role in the 1994 version of The Stand. I’m glad you reminded me about him. 😁
I was so not bored😂 Can't wait to try this using copy paper! Edit: YES! I loved My Favorite Martian, it was hilarious! And my dad got me hooked on science fiction, it's all I read for the longest time
Ah, there’s a funny thing Patricia. I would say the same myself. We just must focus on the good bits, and sometimes when I’m reminiscing I remember long-forgotten little pleasures xxx
Thank you Diane, I find it therapeutic watching you prep, paint and doodle - with your soothing soft voice…apart from that I appreciate your patience and willingness to share your skills, grateful thanks 💚🧚🏻💚
Oh, I loved that show, My Favorite Martian. It was just silly fun. His antennas looked so fake, but he was charming and funny so who cared😂 I love these doodle painting lessons, and making them into little art books. Thank you so much💝
Thank you for taking all that time to mix and compare for us. Truly. There are so many great videos but they seem to forget those of us can't always afford or have access to professional supplies.
I’m back again for this one! The song “the music goes round and round, la la do dah, whoa whoa whoa, and it stops right here”… so many times your paintings`bring songs to mind!`. Your work has such wonderful musical energy embedded in them. Harmony and joy! OXOX❤️
Yay, Amazon got a few of the Art Nouveau sets in and I snagged one which will arrive in a couple of days! So cold and snowy here, it will be good to have something fun to play with!! If we could just order some nice weather!!
A video worth saving for future reference not only for the technical aspects, but also for the warmth and humour! "Changing husbands every now and then" made me chuckle. Thank you Diane. :)
I’ve been a collector of high quality art supplies and now realize they are stopping me from actually making art because I’m not an artist and don’t want to make mistakes on the expensive paper! Whoa you’ve made me realize how wrong my thinking is!!! I ordered the 500 sheet paper you recommended. It arrives Monday and I look forward to playing! Thank you for the art journal example great now I know what I can do with pages!! Might even give them to friends. You’re wonderful
Loved My Favorite Martian! Ray Walston also plays Boothby, the gardener, in the Next Generation Star Trek...for all the Trekkies out there! Thank you Diane, for sharing your relaxing, soft round doodles.
I remember My Favorite Martian! I used to love that show too and Lost in Space. I swear I could sit and listen to you all day. Would be so much fun to sit at a table with you and just chat and paint and doodle on our cheap paper.
Hi Ginger and thanks so much for the comment! A lady reminded me on here yesterday that even when we can’t create something physical for whatever reason, we can still create with thoughts or words spoken, so that at least is some comfort. Hope you continue to enjoy the videos - sending hugs!
I've mixed my own as well, not only with White, but with Petersburg Ochre, Marengo and Naples Yellowish Red! Such beautiful opaque colors were produced and not an extra $1 was spent!
Diane, your videos are wonderful and I love the idea of the little doodling booklets. I also loved My Favorite Martian and I still enjoy science fiction books and shows.
I love the colors in the art nouveau set.!❤️ Thank you so much for showing us how to mix them. I have so many colors now I just couldn’t bring myself to buy any more but this way I can still paint with them and you’ve saved me some cash! Hugs!❤ Dawn
One could never get bored watching you create! Thanks for the how to create your paints. I was able to purchase the Kuretake set through Amazon while they still had them in stock because as soon as I pour my cup of morning coffee, I'm in my comfy chair starting the day with you. When you recommend something, I know it's going to be good! I loved it so much, I ordered a second one for fear I'd run out :)
I really enjoyed this! I love listening to you chat. You make me laugh and cry! You are precious to me and many others! Can't wait to do the little books with my Granddaughters, and the circles in these colors, with your lovely doodles are gorgeous! I have learned so much from you. Thank you for sharing with us! ❤️😘

Yes it was an awesome show...My Favorite Martian. It's on our tv stations now again in the USA. Love all your work, l have to try this also...thanks for sharing. 🌿💞🌿
Your imagination is unending! I challenged myself to do a zen doodle in ink everyday for a year, started last August. I draw something in each of five sections. There are times that I just don’t have any new ideas. You have given me some new inspiration. Additionally, I like painting watercolor, but don’t have an actual project in mind, I just want to paint. This video has given me so much inspiration, and permission to use copy paper just for fun. Thank you for all these ideas
I am nearly 72 (help cannot imagine that!!!).knitted and crocheted my whole life. Can only croche any more. But messing around with a bit of bit of paint: I love it!!!! Please keep on doodeling Dianne!!!! Love from Jolande from the Netherlands
Jolande, I feel like a kindred spirit. Same age, same hobbies (crochet and knitting). I've been drawing and painting since about age 9. I love Diane's videos for new ideas and inspiration. Enjoy the painting journey! Maureen from Massachusetts.
I'm so delighted that i've come across your channel as I was researching reverse watercolour. It's true, its like sitting with a friend, sipping tea and making intuitive art. I make various watercolour florals and have made art for my home and a nook shop and some friends. I love poetry, reading and watercolour explorations.
Welcome to the channel family Fahmida! So glad you found us and I hope you come back often!! You’ll find lots of different types of art here to enjoy ❤️👍❤️
Hello Diane! I have just started watercolour painting and I want to thank you for inspiring me...I am totally addicted and I love painting "with you" and listening to your delightful chatter...you have a beautiful soothing voice and have helped me to relax and enjoy my painting! God bless, Libby, Jeffreys Bay, South Africa
Hi Libby, welcome to the channel! So glad that you have found us and that you’re enjoying the videos! There’s nothing more enjoyable than watercolour painting, and I wish you much joy on your journey! Welcome again!
New to your channel, looking forward to more. Just a watercolor beginner who's not that interested in making anything realistic or even tightly formed but enjoying the set you're using here, just messing around. That's probably why this came up in my feed. And yes! I remember My Favorite Martian :)
Welcome aboard Becky and so glad that TH-cam showed us to you! This is definitely the place for non-realistic and loose watercolor ideas! I believe in letting the water do the work whenever possible! Have fun!
How inspiring you are again ,🙏 I love your talking during the tutorial, I am living alone,( it was my 70 birthday last week 😃, ) and you are good company while listening to you .
Hi Diane! I DO remember watching “My Favorite Martian.” It was so funny because the stories were about things you would only see in books and comics. Never to be real😂😂😂 I’ really enjoying different ways to make backgrounds and reverse coloring books. You make these adventures so accessible 🎉😊
Greatings Dianne. My name is Cynthia Keith. I am an on and off not really experienced water colour painter who has watched your channel for a long time. I enjoy your work immensely. I have been seeking a purpose to do something creative but therapeutic for children. I have retired recently, really means means semi retired! I still seek a purpose to use my skills as an Occupational therapist and as a water colour painter. Today I have been inspired twice…. Our niece who admits to being under the neuro diversity spectrum is am active person for the rights of those folks with disabilities…. She recently wrote a children’s book on how the word is “spoken” by so many folks communicating with different capabilities and abilities. Then I watched your whimsical cat 🐈 painting with you paint box etc… loved it. And something happy filled a hole in my being…. We love animals Have the gentlest golden retriever dog who seems to reach out to folks I need. So my inspiration is to compile an illustrative child’s book on different service dogs, cats , maybe birds who can help save or prevent harm to their owners… how animals can be of service to children/families in need. I would tell the story through whimsical paintings and the written words. I need to do further research on the topic, as I really do not know nearly as much info as needed on this topic. My question to you…. Could I use some of your painting content and your insight I am sure, to fabricate a child’s book on children with animals… and their healing and life building experiences… you would of course be acknowledged in my dream book. I see you love animals as well… I would love to chat with you if you are interested. I have been searching a long time for something to fill my creative need and I have asked our niece for her assistance as well. Thank you so much for even thinking and reading about my dream. If you are I interested I would love to chat with you on a private live. Through messenger video? Facebook? I paint lovely paintings from an outline but do not have the confidence or yet the ability to draw what my mind sees yet. I recognize that privacy is important to you. I have become a friend years back with Louise DeMasi an online painter through Patreon , who I have painted under. In fact on a recent trip to Australia we actually had an opportunity to visit together. It was lovely to meet in person. I can not even remember how we started chatting back and forth! I am eager to hear your thoughts on my new thought of creativity. Thank you Dianne. I am e core so hear back from you. With care, Cynthia
Hi Cynthia and thanks so much for your kind email. What a lovely idea you have to create this book. I’m more than happy for you to use anything that I’ve shared on TH-cam to go into the book. The more people I can reach out to the better and I don’t look for monetary reward! We have two golden retrievers and they are our babies - one girl, one boy and they are the sweetest dogs. Lottie particularly is never more than a few feet away from me! I know of Louise deMasi, her work is very impressive! I’m not big on privacy, and I live in a part of the world where we are far from anyone - they call it the back of beyond - Finistère in France. Let me know what your thoughts are as you begin to research things! Looking forward to hearing from you, best wishes, Diane.
@@DianeAntoneStudio Hi Diane it is so nice to hear from you. Thank you for your support. The thoughts are coming and to me that is the main thing. I have had painters block for long time. I will keep you informed.
I am trying to send you a picture of our Boo our golden retriever and a picture of Louse and I to show I am who say I am. Not successful in sending my photos to your tube unfortunately. Can we correspond via email or messenger. Have you ever tried a project of this sort? My head is spinning right now!
I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I loved all the stories in this video. Living in Australia, some of the "old furniture" customs were quite alien and amusing. I love shopping in op shops but my mother was horrified as she thought they were places you gave to, not places you bought from. When I first gave her a handmade birthday card she asked me if I couldn't afford a new card. Snobbery is always good for a laugh, whatever country you're from. I didn't fit in my family... wrong planet altogether. Your videos are very relaxing and informative. Thanks for taking the time!
Oh Julie I can relate to that so well! I didn’t fit in MY family either, often had the feeling there’d been a mistake in the hospital! So glad you are enjoying the videos, have fun!
Diane, i just love your videos, you make everything so approachable and fun to try. I have learned so much from you! But also, i just love listening to you talk about your everyday life, your animals, the english „way of life“! Please go on as you do and: you are most certainly not „Nobody“! 😊☀️🎨
What a great idea to mix matching colors mimicking the Kuretake Art Nouveau set! Thank you for the idea and the recipes to the various ones in the set. My Favorite Martian was a really cool show. Didn't we all want one??? I love to see your embellishments. I seem to get manic trying to make exact repetitions within the shapes. You really have a great creative mind. It is exciting waiting each day to see your new ideas and pictures.
Actually, My Favorite Martian is still on TV here in America! Maybe you can watch on TH-cam, or if you have access, Apple TV. Those old shows do bring back memories don't they?
Going to try mixing Chinese White with my old tube paints and try this . I need to just play with nothing in mind. I wanted to go into space, too. I still am drawn into watching everything that the Hubble is photographing.
Thanks so much for showing us how to mix up the new Art Nouveau colours. I can’t get it here in Canada either. I love your videos, I started painting with watercolor about 7 months ago after watching one of your videos. You’re an excellent instructor, I’ve learned so much from you. Please keep chatting in your videos. I love hearing your stories.
Even though I love the Kuretaki colours, I love the depth and dimension of the colours you mixed. My father's grandmother was Lady Ethel Lumley. She married a commoner, as did her daughter, my grandmother. They emigrated to Australia, and my father met my mother here. We are waaaay down the rungs (sub-basement level), LOL, but my Aunt still thinks she resides in Lumley Castle. 😂🤣😂🤣
🐦Diane suits you perfectly my friend so, no adding an A at the end! I got so involved and fascinated by your sister and posh friend anecdotes that I was really left wanting you to go on about it more. 🎨your doodles here are so pretty, I scrolled back to look again. My sister has passed, we were 12 yrs apart and loved being cowgirls, she was artistic as well. We used to sit and try to out do each other practicing our beautiful cursive handwriting! Lol. Thank you for the memories 💗...
Sorry about the loss of your sister, that must be hard. We have never really been close, being so different, which I regret. But that’s life, you have to laugh at it!
@@DianeAntoneStudio 🐦you do have to laugh at life's bumps! Thank you for your reply, it means a lot. Have a calm and artful Monday . looking forward to your next video❤
You just saved me from buying another art nouveau set because I was running out of 2 colors, and I have everything already to reproduce these colors. Thank you, your color sense is brilliant.❤
I loved the sort of marblizing effect you had on some of the papers you showed in both this and one of your previous videos featuring these paints. I have tried to figure out your technique using every trick I know, and nothing has ended up looking like what you were able to do. I would love to see a quick video showing and explaining your process, because it's absolutely lovely
Thanks Kim for your kind words! The video I am putting up tonight shows that process again. There’s no secret technique, it’s the paper really. You need to use a smooth paper, like thick photocopy paper, sulphite paper or hot pressed watercolor paper if you don’t mind the cost. I recommend the first two options! Ledger paper is also an option, or vintage paper, which is good quality and smooth. Hope this helps!
Yes! I remember My Favorite Martian! And I've recently read Lewis's "space trilogy"! I really enjoyed it. Your comments also brought to mind Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time" which my 4th grade teacher read aloud to us. I was transfixed. I'm also very fond of used furniture and repairing, repurposing things and love to tell and re-tell the history of things I have, nothing particularly noble, I just love having those connections with people and stories in the past, and I'm not keen on so many of the new things available now.
Brilliant!! Thank you! This makes my stress of looking at my wish list. For the set no longer stressful! Now the fun starts! You are wonderful. Xoxo ❤️
I so enjoy watching your videos! They’re very calming and always get me itching to paint. 😊 My Favorite Martian sounds familiar, but I don’t think I’ve seen it. My mother was not a fan of television shows or movies, so I didn’t watch TV very much as a child. I still don’t watch very much TV - half the time I forget we have one! 😂 I do love to read though. Your comment about My Favorite Martian reminded me about the book The Martian by Andy Weir, which was so smart and funny. A couple of SF book series that were passed around my knitting community included the trilogy that starts with Wool by Hugh Howley and the Rivers of London SF/Fantasy series by Ben Aaronovitch - just in case you were looking for something to read! 😄 Thanks for being here and sharing your artistry (and more!) with us! ❤
Hi Karma and thanks for your comments and your tips. I will make a note of those books and look into them. I think I’ve read The Martian, I definitely read a book with that name, I think it was made into a film, don’t remember the author’s name though. I’m not a tv fan either, I watch old series on TH-cam and listen to radio plays and audio books mostly, especially from last century!
Thank you, Diane, for giving me a purpose for my tubes of white. The use of a cheaper paper is wonderful. I love the idea of making a cute personalized journal. I need to keep my hands busy while sitting with hubby in front of the television in the evenings. I knit or crochet cozy blankets, too. Currently, I'm finding difficulty with getting enough yarn, with the same dye lot for my next project. I could order online, but that just isn't in the current budget. Stay well,
Oh, Diane! You had me laughing so hard at the lady who wanted to know who your father was! I think we might have the same sister, too. However, I will say that while mine focuses her creative energy on home, fashion, and make-up, she is very creative in other ways, too. We must be about the same age as I, too, loved "My Favorite Martian"! Did you ever see the original movie "Robinson Caruso on Mars"? It's from the 1950s. All of those sci-fi 1950s movies were so wonderful. I read lots of sci-fi and my favorite author was Gordon R. Dickson, and loved the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe", too! So enjoy your channel. It's relaxing. Never heard of the wealthy woman you were talking about, but the joke's on her! YOU are famous in our TH-cam watercolor art circles!!!
Hi Bonnie and thanks for your lovely funny comments! I’m sure my sister would be mortified if she heard what I said about her, but it’s kindly meant! I haven’t read Gordon Dickson, but I’ll look him up! Yes, it’s wonderful to be famous in this circle!!!
Love this. Your doodles are awesome. I used the white once with pink and made a really nice paint. Then I read that you are not “supposed” to do this as it is not transparent. But I really liked it. I love your comments about not really caring about your hair and housework. I was debating spending a lot of money on a cosmetic skin procedure. This could buy me a lot of art supplies and would make me happier. Thank you for your videos. Going to mix some white paint with my watercolours and enjoy every moment of it.
I thought about cosmetic procedures 30 years ago, and a friend said "don't you dare! You've earned those wrinkles". I've thought of it all very differently since then. And boy, do I have wrinkles. LOL. So many smiles over the years.
I ordered the Kuretake 36 color set about a month ago with a GC I got for my birthday thanks to you! I painted all my thank you cards with them, on some cotton deckled edge paper I ordered at the same time. I absolutely love them!! So when you showed the art nouveau set I immediately went looking. I found them on Dick Blick Art Supplies here in the US. Can’t wait until they get here! You are right…rather hard to come by. Just looked, and now they are sold out on DB until the end of March. So thank you for showing us this! I love your artwork, and all your tips so much! I don’t usually comment on things, but I just want you to know how much I love and appreciate all you share here on your channel. Thanks again. 🥰💜
Thanks so much for your kind comments and input and I really appreciate you taking the time to comment on the channel, it means so much x Glad you found the paints, they seem to have been more popular than Kuretake expected!
Diane, today you really made me chuckle and increased my joy with your delightful chatter! From your... My Favorite Martian, science fiction, animals, artsy, mother, wife, and retired business woman, fan!
I experimented adding gauche to some colors I already had in my little palette dishes and the resulting colors were some quite interesting toned down colors. Thanks for the tip!
It’s so interesting to here about other cultures! I enjoyed hearing your stories about your interactions with the “ higher ups”. I live in the US and usually the first thing ppl ask after finding out your name is what you do for a living. 😅
I never missed an episode of My Favorite Martian! Or Mr. Ed! I’m going to be 70 as well. Did you notice all the things on Star Trek came true...like the original cell phones, with the exception of Beam me up Scottie! I love your art tonight.
Hi Shari and thanks so much for your comment! Yes! It’s true, most of the gadgets we have surrounding us now were predicted by Star Trek writers… and we even have the computer which talks to us and answers all our questions… now here come the robots!
Of course we remember My Favorite Martian! Edgar Rice Borroughs had a fabulous series on Mars…Chessmen of Mars…hope you read it too! This is so fun chatting with you and learning so much! Wish you the best of luck with your hands too….Linda
That is awesome and I am never bored to tears watching/learning from your Just yesterday I went and ordered a box of the Kuretake art nouveau from Blicks. Well when they run I'll know what to do lol. Yesterday I also ordered 2 of your beautiful sunflower coffee cups. Because of budget constraints I vary rarely spend but at 75 yrs of age last January I've decided to extend my b-day a tad and have some lovely things to look fwd to. Love your channel and thanks once again for sharing your time and talent. Really enjoyed this epi and will attempt at some point. 😀
Hi Kathy and thanks so much for buying the coffee cups! I think it’s great that you have splashed out on yourself, spoil yourself, why not! Thanks also for commenting and always being there!
Thank you, thank you! I tried to order some of those Art Nouveau after watching a previous video of yours and was unable to attain them. This is great! I love the way you think and share with us
I used to watch My Favorite Martian also. I kind of miss a lot of those older shows. Some of the stuff on TV today is drivel. I was lucky enough to be able to order the Nouveau set - can't wait to get it. But this is great - knowing that we can make our colours by mixing....some one told me - "Never use Chinese white"...LOL This is wonderful - thank you.
I don’t know why people say things like that. It has to exist for a reason FPS!!! Most so-called entertainment these days is insane. Have fun with the paints!
Yes! I remember My Favourite Martian 😅. Loved that show. Have you been in my head? Lol. My plan for today (long weekend here) was to sit down and nut out how to make those art nouveau colours with the paints I already had 😅😅 well it’s 6 am and now I have no plans. 😂😂 Thank you so much for doing the colour mixes, very much appreciated! As they say, plans change. Now I’ll be taking your mixes and making myself a little homemade palette without the angst of this amateur trying to figure it out. I did laugh at the changing husbands! The saying here is a change is as good as a holiday. Have a great day/evening. X
I started doing circles with you and had to stop and listen...your stories fascinate me. I have some Welch background and I am a little familiar with the English (I learned about the Elizabethan period in my Bachelor of Arts degree program). It is interesting how people and how they put their worth on someone else just fascinates me. In the Elizabethan time, I would have wanted to work in her court as an "artist"! LOL! If your painting was hanging in one of the echelon homes, they would say, "Oh!, this is Diane Antone..." and suddenly things turn different-like. Just amusing to me. I do remember "My Favorite Martian". Did you see the movie version? It's a modern-day kind of rom-com but with the same actor you mentioned that was your favorite. I was always a bit afraid of outer space, but now, it seems the way of the not-too-distant future. Thank you for this lesson. I love it and love you!
Hi Susan and thanks for your lovely and kind comments! No, I haven’t seen that film but I must look for it online! So glad you enjoy the channel and the videos with my ramblings!
Very lovely Diane! I would love to see you try various paisley doodles - it’s my favorite & I’m sure I could learn a new one from you. Thanks for considering the request.
Thank you for sharing these ideas! I don't see myself as an artist, but I love to play with paints. I never know what I will end up with. I love this idea of a reverse coloring book! By the way, I remember My Favorite Martian. Funny show!
Thankyou so much for this. I loved them from your previous video. I had the paints in my shopping cart and was try to decide whether to buy them! Now I have an alternative :).
Diane, thanks for all your tips & great ideas. I was able to purchase the big set of the Kuretake paints. Always love your circle painting & embellishments after; they’re so pretty.
Is the Canadian artist you are thinking of called Maude Lewis? She was a prolific folk artist on the east coast of Canada and was known for painting on lots different surfaces. She lived in a tiny house that she painted all over. After she passed, they put her little house on display in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia as part of the permanent collection.
I think you‘re right, although I had in mind the name Emily Carr, it was Maude Lewis who was very poor and made the most of all the materials she had. Thanks for reminding me!
I believe Maud gave inspiration to the movie Maudie. A Canadian film from 2016 starring Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke. Well worth a watch for insight into the creative drive. The Nova Scotia setting is perfect.
PS: Can you please tell me what 250, 200 & 125 gr. are in cups or ounces for your coconut cake? I tried to research it, alas, no good results! Amazon's Alexa said 7.5 oz, but she's unreliable. Dying to make it!
Many thanks Diane, & have a lovely weekend!
@@DianeAntoneStudio PS: congrats on the recliner. You may find occasional use for your bed now! Ha ha.
I love when you make backgrouns to embelish!
Thank you!
Thank you so much Nancy, that’s very kind of you!
You really do make me want to paint like I had planned on doing as a child. Now that I am older than you, I'm finally able to start because I bought that Kuretake set of paints you like so much and hope for the best. Thanks for being such a great teacher, story teller, and just a great role model for us all.
Thanks so much Joan for your lovely kind words and I’m so glad you enjoy the channel. I hope you enjoy the paints as much as I do!!! ❤️
My favorite Martian was my absolute favorite! I shred a portion of your story with my husband. His mother was born in England in 1904. He really enjoyed that part of the story. He’s 77 and I am 65. He also liked my circles I haven’t doodled on them yet. I’m a new member.
Hi Karen and thanks for joining the membership, much appreciated! So glad you’re enjoying the videos!
@@DianeAntoneStudio. She sounds like the “Genuine” Mrs. Bucket.
I love what you are doing! I can do circles…..not sure how good I will be at thinking of fillers.🤦♀️🤷♀️
I was so not bored😂
Can't wait to try this using copy paper!
Edit: YES! I loved My Favorite Martian, it was hilarious! And my dad got me hooked on science fiction, it's all I read for the longest time
Glad you liked it!! Happy memories, eh!
Diane, the more I hear about you the more I feel a kindred spirit with you! You make my own life seem sweeter than it actually was growing up!
Ah, there’s a funny thing Patricia. I would say the same myself. We just must focus on the good bits, and sometimes when I’m reminiscing I remember long-forgotten little pleasures xxx
Loved hearing your stories whilst seeing you paint your inspirational “planets”
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for your support!
Thank you Diane, I find it therapeutic watching you prep, paint and doodle - with your soothing soft voice…apart from that I appreciate your patience and willingness to share your skills, grateful thanks 💚🧚🏻💚
Oh thank you so much Mary, that’s so kind xxx
42:00 loved watching this. Only started doodling and water colours a year ago. Finding art supplies don’t take up as much room as fabric.
Oh, I loved that show, My Favorite Martian. It was just silly fun. His antennas looked so fake, but he was charming and funny so who cared😂 I love these doodle painting lessons, and making them into little art books. Thank you so much💝
That’s what I thought, the two of them were such fun! So glad you enjoy the videos! Thanks so much for commenting xxx
Thank you for taking all that time to mix and compare for us. Truly. There are so many great videos but they seem to forget those of us can't always afford or have access to professional supplies.
Thanks Teri, yes, it‘s not necessary to be overloaded with kit to paint well!

Yay, Amazon got a few of the Art Nouveau sets in and I snagged one which will arrive in a couple of days! So cold and snowy here, it will be good to have something fun to play with!! If we could just order some nice weather!!
So cool! Have fun!
A video worth saving for future reference not only for the technical aspects, but also for the warmth and humour! "Changing husbands every now and then" made me chuckle. Thank you Diane. :)
Thanks so much for your kind words and I’m so glad you enjoyed it Rosanna!
Great and I’m so glad to hear it! You’ll feel more confident using the good paper once you’ve practiced on the cheap stuff x
Loved My Favorite Martian! Ray Walston also plays Boothby, the gardener, in the Next Generation Star Trek...for all the Trekkies out there! Thank you Diane, for sharing your relaxing, soft round doodles.
Oh that’s cool! I vaguely remember seeing him as Boothby. Off to look it up!
I remember doing this project in my high school art class in the 70's. It was one of my favorite projects!👍🏻
I remember My Favorite Martian! I used to love that show too and Lost in Space. I swear I could sit and listen to you all day. Would be so much fun to sit at a table with you and just chat and paint and doodle on our cheap paper.
Thanks for your kind comments and I’m so glad you enjoy my ramblings!
Thank you for sharing this! Loved listening to you as always. It's so sad to think about not being able to make things once we get to a certain age 😔

Thanks Linda, so glad you’re finding the channel helpful!

Have fun!

Happy Birthday,🎉It is good to hear Diane’s conversation while painting
Hi Diane! I DO remember watching “My Favorite Martian.” It was so funny because the stories were about things you would only see in books and comics. Never to be real😂😂😂
I’ really enjoying different ways to make backgrounds and reverse coloring books. You make these adventures so accessible 🎉😊
Happy belated birthday Rita! Glad to be there with you xxx

Yes, I loved my favorite martian, watched it when I was a kid. I'm 67
I still seek a purpose to use my skills as an
Occupational therapist and as a water colour painter.
I see you love animals as well…
I would love to chat with you if you are interested.

Yes it was! I used to love all those old American comedies as a kid!
Just got the Kuretake Nouveau and excited to follow you. Fun!
Hope you enjoy it! I’m finding it very liberating!
Love this video. Lots of ideas. Enjoy listening to your stream of consciousness as you paint and doodle.
Oh thank you so much for that kind comment, I’m so glad you enjoy the videos!
Diane, i just love your videos, you make everything so approachable and fun to try. I have learned so much from you! But also, i just love listening to you talk about your everyday life, your animals, the english „way of life“! Please go on as you do and: you are most certainly not „Nobody“! 😊☀️🎨
Oh thank you! No, not nobody, except when it comes to the aristocracy!
You are absolutely delightful! Thank you for just being YOU.
Wow, thank you!
You are so welcome Janice and thanks so much for your kind comments and input!
Hi Michelle, sorry I didn‘t see your reply before! I‘ll have to have a look for „A Wrinkle in Time“ - it sounds intriguing !!!
Brilliant!! Thank you! This makes my stress of looking at my wish list. For the set no longer stressful! Now the fun starts! You are wonderful. Xoxo ❤️

i love your doodle/note booklet - what a fun idea! And, your dialogue makes me smile.
Stay well,
You are so welcome!
Love the idea of mixing colours - very soft and pretty. - Thank you for sharing.
Love it!!! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
You gave me all the time so good idees, to doodle in this booklet. Beautyfull. ❤
Great!!!! Be free, that‘s the ticket!

Thanks Linda, I’m not sure if I read that, I will look for it!
Just fabulous! Can't wait till the new kuretake paint is available! Thanks Diane! 👍
Linda, try the link under this video. I was able to order it, but it’s going to take well over a month to get in the US.
Thanks Diane! 👍
Thank you, thank you! I tried to order some of those Art Nouveau after watching a previous video of yours and was unable to attain them. This is great! I love the way you think and share with us
You are so welcome!
That’s so funny Sharon, hope you have fun doing that!
I love this! One of many of your creations I’ll share with my granddaughter this summer. Thanks so much for sharing your talents and stories ❤️
That’s wonderful Carol, thanks so much for sharing!
I watched "My Favorite Martian" also. Enjoyed it very much.
Love watching your videos!
Yes , I remember My Favourite Martian
Very lovely Diane! I would love to see you try various paisley doodles - it’s my favorite & I’m sure I could learn a new one from you. Thanks for considering the request.
Great suggestion! I will check it out!
the stuff that nobody is supposed to use :) perfect explanation for chinese white.
Thank you for sharing these ideas! I don't see myself as an artist, but I love to play with paints. I never know what I will end up with. I love this idea of a reverse coloring book! By the way, I remember My Favorite Martian. Funny show!
You are so welcome! I know the feeling and eventually you’ll gain confidence. Happy painting!
Thankyou so much for this. I loved them from your previous video. I had the paints in my shopping cart and was try to decide whether to buy them! Now I have an alternative :).
You are so welcome!
I love your stories 😂. Also “changing husbands” 🤣love learning to paint but I’m here for the stories 😆💗! I love all your designs.
Diane, thanks for all your tips & great ideas. I was able to purchase the big set of the Kuretake paints.
Always love your circle painting & embellishments after; they’re so pretty.
You are so welcome!
Yes the movie is based on her life. I haven’t seen it yet but hope to some day.
