    Your whimsy and thoughts out loud as you paint is so inspiring. I’ve been stuck in the realism mode for too long, your channel has given me permission to just have fun with paint without the pressure. Thank you. BTW, I’ve been painting for many years, studied with a variety of workshops and teachers in that time, but feel my art has advanced so much through TH-cam. I’m 76, not elderly yet (lol), but finally call myself an artist.

    I hope this painting helped cheer you up a bit. In the video you said that you are not a real artist but you are a “dilettante.” A dilettante is a person who cultivates an area of interest without real commitment or knowledge. You are committed to watercolor and you have an extreme amount of knowledge so you do not fit the definition of dilettante. Therefore, you must be a real artist. :-) I call myself a watercolor artist or watercolorist all the time. Recently my husband was introducing me to someone and he said, "She is a watercolor artist," which made me very happy. No, I will never be Picasso but I know that others feel joy when they view my work. That's all I need.

    My dear friend…when we love…(family, friends, animals or other people in general) as you obviously do, we always pay the price of pain, grief, heartache. But without love, there is no life. Ideally, we would see only joy, kindness and compassion. However, we all know that isn’t the case. So all we can do is to keep caring and loving, and pray it makes a difference. Enough said.
    The painting is quite lovely. I’ll be sending healing white light to the precious bird and your friend as well. Tomorrow will be better.❤️❤️❤️❤️XOXO

    Thank you for painting when you were feeling depressed. Yesterday when I started watching this video I was feeling very depressed as I have an injury of my knee and it wants to keep me from doing things I want to do. But I forced myself to get out my drawing and painting things and I felt better in the end. Listening to you as you did your painting, and talked about how you were feeling was healing for me as well. I hope you felt better after you did your lovely painting.

    Hi Diane 🌻 I hope things are looking up for you and your friends today, including the little bird!!
    Doing my best to send some healing energy.
    I love your work. You did so well composing today's painting while experiencing the sadness and upset over your friend's difficult situation (and the bird's, too).
    There are various ways to define art and what it means to be an artist.
    I love your work and how you share the process of creating nature inspired art. Thank you, too, for sharing some of your beautiful surroundings, animal family, and adventures. It's very kind of you!! You may not get to hang it in the Louvre, but it's beautiful, creative, uplifting, inspirational, and fun. How is that not art?

I’ve painted just a background of swooshes so far. Oddly, I went to lighter colors, but evidently that was what I needed to do. Just doing the background has already helped. I’ll start doodling later today. Perhaps on my lunch hour. Again, thank you. Art and music can express the things we cannot articulate. Isn’t that a blessing?!

I love your art and love listening to your thought process most days. I realize this was a blue-feeling day but you should never disparage your talent or your gifts! What you do and how you inspire us is invaluable! I look forward to watching you paint and hope you move forward out of the blues quickly. ((Hugs))

    • @DianeAntoneStudio
      @DianeAntoneStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry for the misunderstanding! I occasionally let my dry British humour take control and do what we Brits do best - make disparaging remarks about myself! It’s a national habit which very few people from other countries are familiar with. Don’t take me seriously! But I explained once before that I don’t think of myself as “an Artist” with a capital A because I don’t create large, original splashy and difficult to understand paintings or installations like Tracy Emin or David Hockney… and I don’t have the skills to create wonderful watercolors like Charles Evans or Zoltan Szabo… My gift is slightly different. I can see how to do things and know how to simplify them and share them in a way that makes it possible for others to create their own paintings. So I think I would call myself an Art Teacher. Hope this helps! So glad you enjoy the videos and yes, I am blue-free now!!! Thanks again xxx

    Very melancholy and sad and understandably so. Yet you still produced a beautiful piece. I hope the injured person will be ok. My heart goes out to your friend. I could not imagine the huge stress that would place on him, only to liken it to how my dad, who is 80 and not a frail 80, would react. The colours you chose, as you would know, are calming and I hope they gave you some sense of quiet.
    Odd thing happened just as your video finished a bird flew into my outdoor blinds! I think it just stunned itself and off it went again. Puss and I were sitting outside and we both looked up as we heard the THUD. I was glad to read your bird recovered.

    I’m sorry to hear that about your friend and that you are feeling sad too. We can’t always be upbeat and happy, life is just horrible sometimes but you dust yourself off and make the effort to carry on inspiring us with your art! I commend you for not giving in to the darkness. I hope your session helped you, if only for a short while. I love the colours and how it turned out. A great lesson on how to work through your feelings with art, thank you. We are allowed to ‘not feel like it’ some days :) Take care and look after yourself Diane.

    If you were a real artist? Are you serious? For me you are one of the most real artists! I am sorry for your sorrow, I completely understand. I had a friend who got her drivers licence at a very young age, when she was 16, which was legal here in Germany if you lived in a village without public transportation. The village we lived in was on a hill which had only one road with 11% gradient, which is a lot. When she was 18 she drove home one evening and a lorry had parked on the side. Just when she passed the driver stepped out of his lorry and she hit him, he did not survive. If you drive a road upwards with 11% gradient you cannot drive very slowly, the engine will die on you. But, it still was her fault said the judge and she was put in jail for a year. I could never understand that because she suffered tremendously for what had happened, and the judge made her suffer even more. We were all glad she did not commit suicide. This is over 40 years ago. Sometimes, life is SO unfair, there are no words for it. I think for an elderly person, it must be even worse. I send you my lightful thoughts and my best wishes for your friend. Lots of love and a warm embrace!

    While you were doodling, you were keeping me captivated with your thoughts too. It's difficult for me to even do the "loose" background colorings let alone the doodlings. It seems so easy to do but I get blotches here and there and thin coverage in one place and too much coverage in another place and the thing just looks disordered to me. Oh well. it's fun to watch.

      I’d just say keep on trying. Use cheap paper and play and don’t be afraid of having to throw a piece of paper away. Good, expensive paper is inhibiting. I do all my prep work on copy paper and it makes me cringe to see people using Arches 100% cotton for swatching or demonstrating one stroke of a brush. You aren’t doing anything wrong, I’m guessing you just aren’t doing enough painting! Let me know if I’m wrong x

  • @elaineg60
    @elaineg60 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Diane, have a question…two actually: I have a few pieces, originally I was just trying brush strokes-in fact several were from your videos. The primary subject, for example some poppies that actually turned out great..THEY are done..but, I never did a background. I have a kitty Leela (in case you didn’t see her picture I tweeted to you; think medium long hair Arthur 😁)..but the poppies, Leela, grand kitties…I didn’t do any kind of background. Can I put masking fluid over dried paint? Excuse my ignorance…but I’d never tried it before a few months ago. I can’t use it on my Xuan paper.
    2nd question: you know I’ve been experimenting…after I found a good paint we can easily adapt to Xuan..I found out an 85yr old Chinese grandfather can be just as demanding as an 85yr old Chinese grandfather. 🤷🏼‍♀️😂. Professor Chen has me TRYING to find ways to adapt PrimaTek paints-because of the similarities to ancient traditional paints. While I’m not having too much luck not tearing holes in sized Xuan..or having the paint just kind of “get stuck” on top of raw paper (a few work better, but…); I AM having a blast MIXING the primateks on western paper..and boy did my imagination, bits and pieces I remember from 4+yrs of college chemistry, AND my ADD…ALL on overdrive. Amethyst is…mind blowing. My neighbor thought my swatch sheet with 4 mixes, Amethyst + cobalt green, cobalt blue-green, cadmium red and the big shocker-WN Lemon Yellow Deep (there’s a good reason Schminke uses it in so many mixes)-my landlord thought it was an abstract art piece. All 4, highly granulating AND SEPARATED into at least both colors, most were 3. The amethyst + PY159- looked like mud in the palette..AND when I first brushed it on the Cold press cotton paper..then, MAGIC! A slightly shimmering purple/yellow/grayish-brown. I’ll try and remember to send you a picture later. I came up with some other really pretty, separating mixes with other PrimaTek paints-matte and shimmer (burnt Bronzite, sugalite, SB Turquoise)
    My question…how, or WHERE can you use these stunning, unpredictable separating, granular mixes? Prof Chen saw them and said “AI, SO perfect/pretty for a scenic landscape!” I replied sarcastically with “on what planet Laoshi? (Teacher). He wasn’t amused and told me to go look closer at the ancient rock paintings they recently discovered. Either my eyes are even worse than we thought…or maybe Prof Chen is imbibing a few too many tea pills…all I saw was very aged red, malachite green a bit of blue and black ink. 🤷🏼‍♀️. Liz is going to look at them when she gets home tonight.
    Anyways-some ideas-besides an abstract, where we can use this type of mix? I just have a block…
    THANKS!

    • @DianeAntoneStudio
      @DianeAntoneStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Elaine, yes, you can put masking fluid over paint, as long as it is completely dry you should be able to get it off afterwards. I’d try it out on a spare piece of paper first though, just in case. They have changed the formulation of masking fluid relatively recently, and they are different to before, so do check first. As for what to use the granulating colors on, I have used them for backgrounds mostly, and kind of abstract stuff. Maybe if you were to paint planets or lunar surfaces… lol
      They do make good backgrounds for doodles though!

The lovely soothing blues and greens are perfect for the doodling - it allows you to get out of your funk and just go to the place where the art comes from. I’m commenting at the end of the video. I love how this painting grew. It started out very sad and the more things you put on it, the more cheery it got. “Decorating” the leaves with the gold, and decorating the background and berries with spirals and more white, made it look more and more like how you paint when you are not sad.
    You ARE an artist, and an inspiring, teaching one at that!

    I actually really needed something like this today. Nothing really happened but this grandma was feeling a little bit sorry for herself. I thought for sure when we move into an apartment community for people over 55 that we would have some free time and be able to enjoy our lives finally after working in bringing up kids for years however with the way the world is today some of the kids can't afford to work and find daycare so now my husband and I are finding ourselves 810 hours a day taking care of a one-year-old and a three-year-old. No time for ourselves at the time we can't even make doctor's appointments or things that you have to do when you get to be over 65. So I was just feeling a little gloomy and very tired today and I wanted to pay but couldn't figure out what to put on the paper I think I sat down at the table for 5 times today but now I feel inspired to sit down and let Grandma's brain wander a bit through the watercolors

    My house backs up against woods and every year in the spring I have cardinals attacking their image in my study window so I have to do various things to stop them. At least I have no more stray cats living back there because now they live inside! I wanted to say something about your friend - besides being upset that someone was injuredin the accident, he may also. be worried about losing his license. I don't know what it's like there, but here in the states, if an older person is in an accident they look at you very carefully and sometimes make you take a driver's exam or classes. I'm 75 and have become very careful, not because my health warrants it, but because if I lose my license I'd be in a real bind. So he may be secretly worrying about that as well. No need to answer - you're busy making us all happy with your videos :-)

      Hi Camela, you’re right, he is worried about that. I think he thinks he might be prosecuted and fined as well as losing his licence. He doesn’t have any money. He is really in a hole. But somewhere there must be a silver lining. I just said to him at least you weren’t hurt. Two years ago he did something similar and broke his arm falling off his motorbike. Time to slow down?
