Tip of the tongue to tip of the reed only works if you happen to have a short enough tongue. I wish clarinet teachers would stop insisting on this because it doesn't work for many students and many pros don't actually play that way. Yes, it's ideal if it it does works for you because it's easier to get less tongue on the reed, but slightly further back on the top of the tongue is often (but certainly not always) a better approach.
