So great to have some one actually teach technique! There’s a lot of TH-camrs telling you what and where to fish, but most don’t tell you how. Thanks IKE!
Frogs and jigs are my go-to “big bass baits”…not only because they’re stupidly effective…but I like just chucking them into cover with reckless abandon knowing that they’re gonna come back out. The weedlessness inherent with hollow body frogs really makes them among the best shallow water tools in a bass fisherman’s arsenal.
Thanks for taking the time to actually teach this method. I struggle with walking the frog consistent back to the boat or dock. The throwing the slack in the line is super smart. I plan to try this tonight.
This is by far the best tutorial video I have seen. Short to the point, clear and concise. I will be surely taking these pointer's to the water! I use a 7'2 M/H rod only because I am bank angler and always run into situations where rod hits the water if I use anything longer.
Been using that technique for a few years now with frogs. HUGE difference on the amount of hits I get. And thanks for talking about the rods and reels! I always used a heavy rod, but am going to try on the MH.
Ike, I am a total convert. I've subscribed to several fishing channels over the past year. At first I wasn't sure what to expect from yours (yes you have that reputation of being a bit crazy lol). After subscribing and watching several videos I am COMPLETELY sold! There are dozens of channels out there where the guys go to a private pond and catch loads of fish while making it look way too easy and explaining nothing about technique. There are also many videos with a lot of small talk that has nothing to do with fishing, or with tips that I've heard 1000 times before. Your videos are the first I've seen where I truly feel like I'm learning directly from a professional who is telling me things that most people (maybe even many pros) don't know. With almost every video I feel like I am getting a true gem of wisdom. Everyone should take note of the fact that you are putting thought into these and revealing truly professional techniques, rather than just spitting out videos. Not only am I learning, I'm now a true fan. Thank you and keep up the great work. It is greatly appreciated!
Thank you! You are definitely a great instructor who shows a lot of enthusiasm. The detailed instruction is what a lot of us non-pros need. I'm looking forward to practicing that technique.
Thank you so much for this video. I just couldn’t figure out how to walk a frog and have been looking for a one that explains how to walk a frog. This is by far the best video I’ve found.
Thanks for another great technique video Mike. I have a lot of trouble doing the walking the dog style and I think this will help me a great deal. Thanks again and Tight Lines my friend.
I'm new to Bass fishing and this really helped me out. Thank you for the tips in all the videos. You are my favorite person to watch. Love your energy when you get a fish.
Loved the video! Been using frogs for years but always looking for a better technique, that 50lb braid tho that blew my mind that seems like it would some thick ass line for a bass rod
You are damn entertaining Mike! I have to say, others will put the ADHD Bass fanatics to sleep, but not you! I’ll be practicing this technique on the lake tonight 🤙
Mike not sure what’s going around your mouth but still enjoy watching ya .....it was like when the campfire is going and everyone stares at it....your handle bar has the same effect 😂🙏
Thank you for a most educational seminar today. Despite my attempts, no blow ups yet. Maybe tomorrow. In your professional opinion, how far should I be able to cast a frog on a bait caster to achieve maximum walk the dog effect? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.
Dennis Ederer I cast mine pretty far, but my frog doesn’t want to walk side to side. The best places I have found to fish it is around cover in the mid day. It’s hot so that’s where bass will be chilling. Even though my frog don’t walk, I still got 4 bites and landed 2 fish.
Hallow body frogs only tournament coming up here in California (kayaks) I can’t seem to ever hook up on a frog. I’ve been blown up on 100+ times. Never hooked up. Felt a head shake once though.
Next strike you get, wait 2 full seconds to set the hook. It made a NIGHT/DAY difference for me. I hook up with 90+ percent. Sometimes it's just too small of a bass to take the frog in completely.
@@peghead haha thanks man. I grew alot in the past two months. I switched to a snagproof frog and I rarely miss a strike now. I’ve gone 7 for 7 with successful hook sets in a day since then
I dont understand why anyone would dislike something like this video. I think they have serious problems. If a person does not agree they should start a conversation Love your comment lol
If you've ever seen a frog trying to escape it takes off in quick bursts, i have great success with constant quick short pulls in open water and on top of cover 😎
are you going to do any videos on bank fishing with top water and worms i am in kidney failure and my medical takes all my exter money fishing is one of the best stress killer thank you for your time
I know you made this 3y ago but I’m seriously having trouble with this. If someone can tell me any more secrets on walking this thing I’d love you. I’ve rewatched this video 4 times now, every time I go fishing I rewatch it because I’m determined to learn to walk it.. the best walking action I can get is if I don’t even reel at all and jerk the slack “to my right”. I tried fishing it today using his method in a downward motion but I still couldn’t get it. I wasn’t sure if the walking action solely comes from the twitch or both the reel too. On another note, I lost my frog cuz I’m still learning the baitcaster. I tied a good non slip loop on 10lb test braided line on my 7’2 med action fast rod, I casted it too hard and the bird nest literally broke the line and the frog went flying. I got the bird nest out and switched to 5” stick bait Texas rigged and caught a couple so it wasn’t a complete wash. But yeah I’m struggling walking the frog.
For those of you who tried this but are unsuccessful here is the reason. Not all frogs/rats are built to walk. Older and cheaper frogs have a different belly shape that won't allow the lure to walk. A friend of mine bought some cheap Walmart brand frogs and couldn't get them to walk. I gave him one of my Booyah Pad Crashers and he was able to walk the lure on every cast. Those cheaper frogs will still catch bass but you won't be able to walk them in open water.
You will be sorry you went with a medium heavy if you hook into a 5lb+ fish that is in the slop...... Use extra heavy when fishing heavy vegetation and only downsize to heavy when fishing open water with a straight retrieve frog (ex Sprinker). No need to ever downsize though. Extra heavy rod is no issue walking a frog. I would use a tree branch if it wasn't so heavy.
So great to have some one actually teach technique! There’s a lot of TH-camrs telling you what and where to fish, but most don’t tell you how. Thanks IKE!

What a mustache my friend. That is 100% commitment
Reminds me of hulk hogan back in the day

This is the only video I have seen that explains this technique comprehensively. Thanks for the great content
Man i wish i had this guys energy, such a beauty.
Just do speed for 10years straight then go cold turkey 😄
Thank you for showing us how to walk the bait. I got the twitch, reel in my head now. Easy to remember.
Without doubt the best teaching video on how to walk a frog and I am sure it would be the same for any other topwater bait. Thanks IKE.
Been using that technique for a few years now with frogs. HUGE difference on the amount of hits I get. And thanks for talking about the rods and reels! I always used a heavy rod, but am going to try on the MH.
"IKE UNIVERSITY"

Image him as a history teacher..
Awesome Ike!! Love that you use a medium heavy and that you gave us a spinning option. 10/10 on this video!!
Great video! One of the best “how to” videos I’ve seen on walking a frog!! Thx for this!! 🤙
Mike I Love your tips and teaching and it's really helpful .thanks a lot. You're a really great fisherman and have always been a big fan.
I use a 30 lb green braid because most of the water in Georgia is merky. This technique helped me actually catch something.
Thank you. Just started froggin. Been killing it.
Thank you for sharing tips on the frogs,
Going out with frogs in the morning for first time🤞
Thanks for another great technique video Mike. I have a lot of trouble doing the walking the dog style and I think this will help me a great deal. Thanks again and Tight Lines my friend.

You are genius brother.😮
Very good Mike, like the tip on the braid
Killer looking frog and thanks for the tips.
Legendary stash my man!
Mr. MUSTACHIO!
Can't wait to use my new ike real mh combo for this. Loving my new spinning and casting combos. The new zoom frogs are killer
The sneaky frog is like paddling a kayak without a keel. You go side to side.
Thnx ike detailed as usual have a great day.
Dude you’re my favorite fisherman but I must say with the mustache you look just like Joe exotic from tiger king
Loved the video! Been using frogs for years but always looking for a better technique, that 50lb braid tho that blew my mind that seems like it would some thick ass line for a bass rod

What’s the best knot to use for this technique? I’ve used a rapala knot to give me a consistent walk. I’m primarily a bank fisherman
Palomar
How about adding a suitable split-ring?
Hi Mike, great video!!.. Do you ever use a leader line when using a frog? If so, what pound text?
Do you have to change the twitch direction? Or will twitching in the same direction produce the desired result?
Ty
the 2 Dislikes are from people who STILL can't walk the dog on retrieve....even after this....lmfao

Tighten up Mike!!
Mustache of the year
Great video. But my daughter told me “daddy I want his purple fishing pole”. Can you tell me what is being used in this video?
Reel looks like a Team LEWS pro TI
Well that certainly helped.
I walk a frog in open water. No treble hook problems.
Your the GOAT!!
I’ve always read that you should never stop your frog. You don’t want to give the fish too much time to look at the frog and realize that it’s fake.
For those of you who tried this but are unsuccessful here is the reason. Not all frogs/rats are built to walk. Older and cheaper frogs have a different belly shape that won't allow the lure to walk. Were you ever a dodgeball supervilain?
Why aren't you on tour?
Is that the great Hulk Hoganelli??
Mike : Can you please send me the name of the frog you use. Thanks!!

Looks like a fire men
This doesn't work for me. I'm using a terminator walking frog, mach smash, its 6'10 medium heavy fast action give me tips
Hulk is that you?
Yes it is!
Thought it was the tiger king for a second
5:00 is what we came for.
Mike channeling his inner Hulk Hogan?
Great video #NEVERGIVEUP #NEVERGIVEUP
How many times is it going to say my name, twitch riehl, twitch riehl !
I try this but my frog only leaps forward when I do it. Using 7’ MH rod with 50lb braid. Stupid frog won’t walk. Lol
Practice bareley i mean bareley moving your rod
Excellent instruction. Thanks!!
I can't ever get a strike with a frog!
I am skeptical of that.
@@Totaro17 lmao
Me too but I am not giving up. From what I have seen, catching bass on a topwater is quite an exciting experience.
Mike milt here I am 75 and been trying to walk that darn fy
Frog for ever I’ll try your way and let you know how I do. Milt
