What an exceptional demeanor she displays on court as well as off court for a 20 year old person. Obviously, she is very soft spoken but her poise, humble attitude and calmness cannot come without her inner ability of disciplining her conduct. I'm old (I don't know why I feel the urge to point that out so often) and I don't remember a tennis player winning a Grand Slam Championship while being overshadowed by the losing opponent. Ever. Yes, I watched McEnroe lose his mind on the court, especially against Connor and Borg. And the fans booed him for it; they didn't boo the umpire. Naomi outplayed Serena, and not for the first time. But all the media covered was Serena. Give this young champion her due; she earned this. She hasn't said a bad word about Serena; just the opposite, in fact. She was playing against one of her idols, and she played great tennis and kept her poise while doing so. That's what the story should be about.
+Aliana Wood I've seen plenty of instances/situations in which an athlete was nearing the end of her/his career and didn't want to let go. I've never seen fans actively booing as an aging champion was being dethroned. No, the fans weren't booing Naomi; but do you not think that she might have taken it that way. And the fans were booing because Serena turned the match into a bad joke that was all about her. @ninjapequin what's your point? Osaka was up a set... so what.. how many players have been up a set against the World's greatest tennis player, Serena, ? The Japanese cultural influence is obvious. Japanese aren't all-caps people, for one thing. In fact, they don't even have capitalization in their language.
Sure, I'll give you a break because you've obviously lived in the U.S. your whole life, too, which explains why you can't see the cultural influence. Naomi you handled this most unfortunate situation with a grace and humbleness.THIS WAS HER DREAM TO PLAY HER IDOL SERENA AT THE US OPEN FINAL. Sadly, Serena, the crowd and the disgraceful comment by Katrina Adams "Perhaps this was not the finish we were looking for today". utterly spoiled Naomi's moment. Can you imagine? Naomi just achieved her dream and she should have been celebrated, not booed. Even with all those insulting comments and bad behavior by Serena, the crowd and Katrina Adams, Naomi apologized for winning because she knew if she were in the stand she would've been rooting for Serena. I am glad to see so many Americans and non-Americans applauding for Naomi's grace. So THANK YOU! Can someone please tell me name(s) of Grand Slam champions who were able to put her/him self in the crowd's shoes and think rationally why they behaved in the way they did? I'm Japanese and we were taught to be humble and gracious from childhood. Her mother clearly kept the tradition. Naomi even thanked the crowd for watching and thanked Serena for playing and took a bow. HOW SO JAPANESE OF HER! BTW: Naomi completely outplayed Serena, just saying.
This is the very best interview revealing how Naomi won the match. Focusing on who Naomi really is and what Naomi is, rather than trying to create a drama around what her feeling and reaction were like about Serena... Salute to Naomi and Vera for the real class and professional interview.
Actually Serena did not underestimate Osaka. Before the match started, Serena had said that Osaka is extremely talented and that she is "good at everything." Being called a cheater when you didn't cheat is extremely upsetting.
You're right about the first point. The second point though - at no point did the umpire call her a "cheater". He warned her for coaching, which is a rule that doesn't even require the player to actually notice or participate in it. Countless, well regarded players have been warned for it at some point in their careers.
I doubt serena is salty Lol she showed good sportsmanship in the end. Youre calling an athlete who has won this title over 20 times....serena has nothing to be salty over. Congrats to Naomi !
Naomi. You are a inspiration to all. You defeated someone you looked up to. Not alot of ppl can say that. You did your thing and alot of ppl where im from is proud of you.

Beautiful person and player
So proud of this girl. So talented, polite and ... she's a gamer !! Instant love for her
Amazing Naomi Osaka!! A roll model!!
This is the very best interview revealing how Naomi won the match. Focusing on who Naomi really is and what Naomi is, rather than trying to create a drama around what her feeling and reaction were like about Serena... Salute to Naomi and Vera for the real class and professional interview.
A true CHAMPION! ♥ ♥ ♥
Naomi is so humble, I'll definitely keep following her. So glad I'm aware of her now.
Congratulations!!!! WE ARE ALL EXCITED FOR YOU!!!
Naomi told Ellen, "I'm not good at talking". That's not true Naomi. You were talking just fine here I thought. You're very pleasant to listen to.
It's a shame that Serena's childish antics overshadowed Naomi's performance and victory.
I'm just glad it was one half black and and one black playing
@@Profess2023 CHECKMATE...GAME OVER: You see folks, that's how you shut an idiot down.
I am really starting to truly love her, more and more as she continues. I think she's SO amazing.
Naomi deserved the win , Serena just so salty because she underestimated her opponent and she regretted that instantly. Congrats Naomi❤
She has 6 US Open titles though, not 20. I guess you're referring to Grand Slam titles.
@@dee468 I picked Osaka to win the tournament cause she was winning her matches more easily than Serena.
I like the questions in this interview more than most others.
She's easy own the eyes.
Naomi. You are a inspiration to all. You defeated someone you looked up to. Not alot of ppl can say that. You did your thing and alot of ppl where im from is proud of you.
Ser who?? Naomi Osaka Rules!! 👌👏👏👏🙏💕
Well done Naomi ... I can see a real champion with a long career. Can’t wait to see you at The Australian Open in 2019. You are going to be a role model for many young people worldwide for many years to come. Congratulations .
Laid back💝💕✌👈
A true champion. The definition of grace at such an early age.
