- Urban Fishing always looks incredible, but what is it really like? Join me as I journey through London's varying waters, searching for Perch, Pike.. or anything that will take my bait really!
Big thanks to @LondonCatchAndRelease for showing me around, and to @SnaggedBro for letting me pinch some of their footage - they're both the real deal when it comes to city fishing.

Mate, your ability to make videos that keep me engaged while not seeing you catch anything is beyond impressive. Stay positive, it will happen. Nerdy note, love the heavy mist filter with all the lights blooming at night, your videos are meticulously assembled and executed. Cheers and looking forward to the next one!
Cheers Paul 😁😁 and haha, I’d love to take credit for using a mist filter but it was actually just a very fogged up front element! But yes, let’s say it was intentional 👀😂
@@tomwilshaw 😂 well I got fooled, now if you could fool the fish to bite too, that would be nice! Cheers 🍻
Stunning movie mate. You really worked here. Subscribed.
I read your message and now don’t want to watch the vid 🤦♂️ I will, I’ve started so I shall finish.
На Москва-реке также бывает)) по нулям
Really smashed this video Tom, was pleasure meeting you and show you around, looking forward some sea bass session in brighton 🎣
Mate it’s all thanks to you there even is a video!! Loved spending time with you, definitely looking forward to the next time 😁
The camera shots, the music, the editing, well done for giving a new perspective to the fishing videos, I'm subscribing.
Thank you so much :) I’m glad it was enjoyed!
I don't know anything about videography but these vidoes are so well produced, edited and mastered.
Thank you :-) I’m glad the hard work is worth it!
Great watch mate! Those London canals are top difficulty level! 👊👊
No doubles though
I feel like a london canals challenge is in order... Can't be THAT hard can it? hahaha
@@fishwithcarl come down to Exeter and fish with me pal you won’t see a fish let alone catch one
You've really sold that to me mate@@Aaron-pu9gg sounds awesome! hahaa
@@fishwithcarl If you though brum was tough... London is next level.
Great video man! So much effort into this. I appreciate your work
Thank you so much!
Very cool video. Thanks for sharing your fishing experience. Really enjoyed seeing the various canals you tried in the city and your efforts at the other spots. The last lake or pond looked like a really good spot. Nice catch by your buddy. Beautiful looking pike.
My absolute pleasure! It was fun trying something new :)
I actually gasped when I saw your latest video pop up. I just waited for the right moment to sit and indulge in the adventure, so this morning with a coffee was the one. Thank you. Great start to a Wednesday!
That's so damn lovely to read, I really appreciate you saying that man - Thank YOU for watching!!
Awesome video skills, clean shots and the overall edit was really good. I’m in Canada and this is a complete different type of fishing that I have here but really interesting to watch! You really worked hard for the fish I was hoping you would get one at the end of the video there. Subbed
Thanks so much! Canada's up there with my dream places to fish, would love to hook into a Muskie one day..
Awesomeness level 10,000 fella.....great editing and camera skills. Liked and subbed bro ‼️💯👍
Just found you by chance as I sat down to eat my dinner after coming home from fishing, subscribed straight away.
Gonna have a look at any other uploads on the channel now mate.
Take care brother. 🙏👍
Thanks man!! Really appreciate that, all the best to you too mate :)
Best video I've watched on your channel to date, very much enjoy the sort of out of the normal fishing locations and your film making is incredible👌
Thank you Aaron :) I’m definitely learning what videos to make, I feel like this was a step in the right direction.
I really enjoy watching your videos. They are very well edited and engaging. keep at it :)
Thanks so much :) I’ll do my best!!!
Dude, yr video editing is damn good. Never mind of getting less fish, but yr editing and engagement is superb. You have earned one subscriber. Waiting for more of yr videos
Thanks for the kind words 😁 shooting my next one this weekend!
Fantastic video mate, looking forward to Pt2, keep up the good work. Korum ZT snapper, my first lure rod, I’ve got the 2-14g one, I used it for Perch mainly, not let me down yet.
Exactly the same as mine! Although, I managed to snap the tip on that one whilst on the train home soooooo, my bank account is not impressed ☹️😂
@@tomwilshaw has a thin tip so easily done, managed to get mine for £20 on a sale, always trawling for sale items as I’m too clumsy to risk spending a lot 😂
Dude I really like your camera style it's very calming. I also like your "simple" way of fishing. I lived in Berlin for a long time and also enjoyed urban fishing, in fact there are usually very big fish in the water but you can really shoot your best powder with lures, usually you just need the lucky punch. :)
Thank you! I bet there’s some amazing fishing to be done in Berlin, somewhere I’d love to visit one day.
I was a security officer for Canary Wharf Management. Unfortunately no fishing is allowed on their property. However across the bridges away form the tall buildings, they don't own the land.
I use to fish on south quay and caught my 1st and only fresh water fish haha. It was a small ish pike. As for blanking, I've blanked there about 5 or 6 times. It's deep!
People catch all sorts from zander, perch and pike.
I live in Southend now so in the summer I try for sea bass. It's not really the best place to fish but it's local. Many blanks which is disappointing, but the beauty of fishing are the days I do catch.
Got to be in it to win it!
Great video mate, I go here for my photography, but never thought of fishing, but loved this, well done .
It’s not easy, but the experience was awesome :) well worth a go!
Loved fishing the London canals and the River Lee by Hackney marshes as a kid, live in Oxford now and the fishing is still great. Thanks Tom, great content.
Oxford is somewhere I’d love to spend a lot of time :) some beautiful waters. Thank you!
Beautifully filmed and edited as always.
I've never been fishing, but your videos are really engaging and I can't stop watching! Subscribed. Thanks! Dan
Cheers Dan! That's a huge compliment, definitely give fishing a go if you ever get the chance!
Fantastic film! I share your pain when it comes to catching for the camera. Often taken for granted but rarely guaranteed. However, when the footage (and editing and everything else) is this slick, you don’t always need fish to make an entertaining and inspiring watch. Tight lines, John
Cheers John :) Of course catching is what I do all of this for, but I do try to construct my videos in a way that hopefully they give value in other ways too... Filming and fishing, you can't do both well!!
So much people around while fishing made me anxious 😂 I need to be totally alone when I’m fishing lol. But it was interesting to see how the waters in London actually is!! Good video!
First time viewer here, blown away by the cinematography and so cool to see you fishing around my locol area!
Looking forward to Part 2.
Cheers Ben!! It’ll be later in the year after the river season opens back up, but I definitely want to give it another go :)
Switched from course to sea fishing when I moved to Brighton. Lure fishing for sea bass is epic.
I definitely need to spend some time doing just that!!
Love the video, this is the true journey of fisherman, what you enjoy is the adventure, walking and hiking and the fish is just the cherry on the cake
That's absolutely it :-) Fishing is a great reason to be outdoors, and sometimes being outdoors is enough. London definitely stretched that ideology haha.. but was certainly an adventure!
Great video! Hope you keep in touch with Matt! 😊
My daughter used to live in Rotherhithe, so I kind of recognised some of your fishing spots!
Anyway, back to reality again - Burton-on-Trent 😂
Thanks Nigel 😁 I definitely will, we’ve got some more adventures lined up for the rest of the year! Haha, plenty of fish there 😉
Your fishing trip went the same way most of my one goes. Love fishing, been doing some see fishing over the past few years in a small rib so much fun.
I’d love to do a spot of that at some point!
Loved the video Tom, im the same in crowded places, feel very uncomfortable nowadays. Looking forward to the next one. Tight lines buddy 🎣🎣
Cheers Mike :-) I’ll always prefer the ‘great’ outdoors, but it was definitely good to push myself, lots to be enjoyed in the city too!
Subbed, like your style, great voice for the narration. No
Fish, no worries, I’ll keep watching. Keep it up, you must be pleased with the views, well done. Tight lines 👍
Thanks so much! Really appreciate that :) yes, vid’s done far better than I ever imagined! Super pleased and grateful
Honestly mate your story telling is on another level got me hooked all the way througuh, and props to u man you got balls of steel leaving your camera around like that in London! come to Hastings - Rock-a-nore area for some Mackerel fishing soon its great fun , you've gained a sub from me mate
Hugely appreciate the kind words :) That's just along the coast from me, I'll have to check it out, thanks!
To produce and film while in such a hectic environment must have been a challenge all on It's own but you did it perfectly! The 3D camera shots were pretty cool... As for the fishing; that just looked like so much fun but incredibly difficult. Keep up the great work! Also... A random observation was to hear you're 'gluten free' so I presume Coeliac? My Mum has the same. It was good to see that you still managed to find tasty food!
The Insta360 cam definitely helped me out with the lure fishing sections, so cool to just know I'm recording everything and choose the shots later! Yep, I do have Coeliacs, it's a pain but thankfully a lot of places have menu's for folks like me now, makes things a lot easier!! Thanks for the kind words man :)
Just noticed that's a Polar Skate beanie haha sick. I've been trying to fish in London since I've lived here, but man is it intimidating! Good stuff man!
Haha yeah man! Had that beanie for yeaaaars, still going strong, cheers!
Yet again Tom your filmography is another level. Combined with perfect story telling catching a fish is purely a bonus.. cant wait for part 2!
Ps what lense did you use for the misty shallow depth of field on your talking heads segements?.
Thanks man :) I'm definitely still finding my feet with the balance between 'making a nice looking film' and actually fishing, I think this video was a step in the right direction.
Everything in the day was shot on a Canon 24-105mm f4, everything at night a Sigma 35mm f1.4 - hope that helps!
@tomwilshaw cheers for the info Tom I really appreciate it 👍
Great video thanks for making it 🎣👍
My absolute pleasure! Glad it was enjoyed :-)
I saw your channel today, and I loved it, I'm Brazilian and I fish a lot here.
In September I'm going to the United Kingdom, Scotland and I'm curious about the fishing they do there.
Thank you for sharing your fishs bro.
Sorry for my bad english rs, I'm learning, your videos helps a lot
Your English is great!!! Much better than my Brazilian, I can tell you that much 😂 Scotland is meant to have some amazing pike fishing :) I hope you enjoy your visit!
@@tomwilshaw 😂😂
Bro, this is like the Top Gear of fishing! Subbed!
Haha, thanks Tim!!! Really appreciate that :)
Biggest pike I’ve ever seen in my life was where the lea navigation joins the hertford union canal at Hackney Wick back In the early 90s used to be great fishing round there
mate, what an amazing video ... even without many fish. cheers man from Italy ;) ...
Thank you 😁
Loved this film!! Well done mate! :D
Cheers Fin!! :)
Great Video Tom. I’ve cut my teeth on the canals of Manchester and catching a chunk in these waters is so tough but so rewarding!
I always think of Snagged Bros when I find a nice bridge but they’re pro’s so I must never work them as well as they can!
Cheers Lewis :) And so true... and, they only catch doubles!!!!
The camerawork and editing and audio is really engaging. Looking good mate.
Cheers!! It’s hard getting it good when self filming but I’m glad it seems to be working!
sweet footage, so many good shots, subscribed
Thanks Rio! :)
i lived in london when i was a kid and fished rivers n canals all the time i once did what you did went to central london and fished the Thames, after climbing walls we found these weird places like where ships would be launched, and from the first cast it was full of things , tons of eels and sea fish! we caught allot of eels, but eveytime it was a big fish we couldn't pull them up the big wall thing , was allot of fun for my teenage self
That sounds amazing! Eels are weird fish…
Absolutely prize content mate, when i make fishing videos im obsessive about showing a result every minute or so! To retain your viewers attention while blanking is an art form!
My fishing/filming in mostly in suburbia but its a different game!
Well done, subbed 👍👍
Haha, I appreciate it! Believe it or not, my intention is to catch.. on this occasion that just didn’t happen so easily.
You work is amazing ! Just i love it ! 🤯🤯🏆🏆
Thank you :D
loved the video.. waiting for part 2
It may take a little while, but it’ll be here 😁 thank you!
What a vile place to be fishing, cannot see the draw of this at all, but what a way to show this off, truly brilliant video and such an effort put in, superb stuff and have now subbed
It was definitely a bit different! I’m glad I tried it, and I will go back, but my goodness I don’t think it’ll ever be my main form of fishing..
@@tomwilshaw Il be waiting for that episode and hopefully this time i wont feel dizzy with you surrounded by all that chaos, couldnt do it myself but glad someone can thats willing to take the camera with them to share it so we dont have to try it for ourselves, was an interesting watch
Try the Thames at Westminster. I used to fish the steps at County Hall, I think it's the London Aquarium now. It was back in the 80s but it was brilliant.
Dace, Eels, Roach, Rainbow Trout, Smelt. Heard tale of an 18lb Carp caught on a prawn. 👍
Now that would be an awesome backdrop!!
First time checking out your content. Chicago has amazing fishing a lot of time that is urban af! Cheers from across the big ass’d pond.
Hahaha it truly is one MASSIVE pond between us 😂 I’d absolutely love to visit the states, maybe one day!!!
I think your incredibly brave to fish with so many seeing eyes in you. No ways I could deal with that. Well done, excellent video!!!
I’m not sure brave is the word I’d use 😂 definitely a step outside my comfort zone that’s for sure! Thanks for the kind words :)
Keep up the great work. When your next in North Scotland give me a shout and I'll take you to some spots where no humans are and you can fish in peace.lol
@@ryanharradine8780 haha I’ll take you up on that! I love the highlands, and I very much plan on doing some pike fishing up there come autumn!
Thank you for this video, I travel to Camden a lot and I never thought about bringing my rod. But if you think it’s busy, never go on a Saturday it’s truly hell on Earth.
I’ve been on the weekend before, chaos 😬
@@tomwilshaw I wouldn’t want to fish there during the weekend. I’m hoping to hit it midweek.
Loved your honesty..
I used the crank today at rhodes in the rain it did the damage couple bream biggest was 45cm and a heap of Taylor I must buy some more different colours love your videos im in kfnsw cheers.
Nice vid, next time you'll get them. I'm from Germany and i'm mainly fishing on the River Rhine where i'm used to catch good pike, perch, zander, asp and wels. Street Fishing isn't exactly my style, i've been doing it in the Netherlands a couple of times, but i dont really like the urban feeling and all the pedestrians talking to me all the time. A friend of mine was visiting his brother in London a year ago or so, he took one of his rods with him to try to catch some fish. He luckily caught one fish in three or four days of fishing, but that was a massive perch of 50cm and also his PB. I dont know where exactly he caught it, but it was somewhere in the central city.
Sounds like it could have been from the docks! Urban fishing is definitely an acquired taste, I’m not sure I could do it all the time but it’s definitely cool to try something new :)
Hiya! Frankly, I got this video by recommendation given but I don’t regret it at all! You see, even though I live in Russia, I truly enjoyed watching you strolling and fishing like that in London! Got you one more subscribe, keep it up pal 😌🤩
Thank you so much!! :)
Wow. Cheers mate! I do angling in Berlin on a regular basis and this video makes that living hell look like a trip to a National Park 😂
Hahahaha!
Enjoyed that.
Never thought of fishing in the middle of a city.
Definitely a bit different! haha
That cucumber in the boat yard has a story. 😅😅😅😅😅
👀
What a video again, Tom! Well done👏🏻
Cheers guys!! 😁
Excellent video you blanked but still kept me wanting more great job 👌👌👌
Thanks James :) next one will have a fish in it, I promise!
Don't promise something you can't control haha. I have the Birmingham hotspots you can capitalise on haha
I grew up fishing that canal! Just up at the Cumberland basin we used to catch hundreds of bream and roach
Dare I say it, I would have taken a bream this trip and been thankful of it!
Tom your amazing vlogger and relate soo much to your journey thanks mate
Well... my son lives on the Regents Canal, south of the Islington Tunnel. There's a ton of fry, lots of big eels, pike up to 3' or so (which eat baby waterfowl) and perch on his mooring. I watch them every time I visit. You really need a ghillie to show you the where and the how...
I certainly have a lot to learn :)
When the bite is tough, need to use around 2 metres of very light FC leader and don't use unnecessary tackle such as snap swivels and swivels. Just use FG knot or Double Uni for braid to leader, then either a Uni knot or Improved clinch knot to tie on your lure. You can also use a non-slip loop knot if you're feeling fancy.
I think exactly that would have been the right move in the clear canal, there was far too much tackle in the water! Thanks for the tips :)
Great too watch what fishin is abiut new friends an adventure
Really love the vibe here, you get a subscribe from me, just one question. The image on your camera is just crystal clear, what camera body and lens do you use? thanks mate, keep up the awesome content, live in Belgium myself, always welcome to crack up that perch record in the Netherlands ;)
Cheers Rob! Haha, I was filming for my friend Carl when he caught a 6lb 54cm perch… blew my mind. One day maybe!
Camera is a Canon R, with a 24-105mm lens :)
Awesome lad, cheers! :)@@tomwilshaw
Love so much, waching your video❤ I remember when i spent 2 days just because i want catch Barramundi in basin near my town 😂❤ love from Indonesia.
Haha, thank you so much!!!!
Your comment about moving away from the city then the anxiety when visiting really resinated.
I think finding peace in the outdoors is definitely important, I still love it, but what I didn’t realise up until recently is that it’s also important to gently push yourself in situations you feel uncomfortable within. Not easy!! But vital to enjoy life without anxiety building up.
Bravo!!!
Just stumbled across this video as I was watching some of my other subscribed too channels ( snagged bro , fishing with Carl etc ) and so glad I did ,,,,, I know nothing about how to do fishing videos and only slightly better at my fishing but love this and all the content ….. get a colab together with some of the other guys … I big fish fest around that area !!! Looks awesome but as noted is hard ….. don’t have much up here in the north east of England so although blanking you have it all at your feet. Enjoy and all the best and just subscribed … top man !! 👍👍😄😄🎣🎣
Cheers John!!! I'd love to do some more stuff with the guys in the future, I did do a river carp film with Carl last year, check it out if you get a chance - would love to know what you think!!
@@tomwilshaw will do buddy and thankyou for replying. 😄😄 all the best 😄😄😄🎣🎣🎣
Great video even if you didn’t catch it’s going that counts and out of your comfort zone also , power to you 👊🏻
Thanks mate :) I really appreciate that
Unlucky on not catching, but what an adventure, your video production is top quality!
"Just popping to London to catch a perch" definitely became a bit of an obsession over those days...
Nice one, great vid. I work two tube stops from one of the locations, so might give it a try :) Looks virtually impossible though :D
I think/hope once the water warms up it might become a tad easier, but who knows!!
@@tomwilshaw Indeed, good luck mate. Great to see :)
Used to fish the same stretches of canal and river you did in this video as a kid. Went back there as an adult and as much as I do enjoy getting out on the canals and rivers. I wouldnt fish there again as its pretty barren and what little reward you get out of it if you do catch one by luck wont be worth the amount of hours you spent walking up and down the towpath.
Tried many of the same places I used to fish as a kid for over a year and blanked every session. I Used to be so hopefuly of catching something but never did. The only way forward is to sign up to private fishery or spend time on some of the reservoirs or ponds in the other boroughs of london where fishing is allowed. I have a local reserviour near me that charges £15 for a day ticket which seems a bit much to me but I go there once in a while when i cant be bothered to head down to club waters in the lea valley/Hertfordshire areas
The River Lea isnt what it used to be. Certain parts of it used to hold large chubb and a deadbaiting session for pike would end with 6-8 fish on the bank. Now you just feed the crayfish every time you cast a deadbait in.
There are small pockets of river and canal that still hold decent sized chubb but they are all gated or fenced off to stop kid falling in so pretty impossible to fish.
It definitely feels like UK waters are suffering greatly, I’m sure there’s a multitude of reasons but regardless, it’s sad that fishing is becoming so inaccessible by way of poor fish stocks. I certainly hope it turns a corner soon!
Nice to see the 360 camera in use😎
Always! 😁
There are lots of nice fish in the River Wandle. Barbel, chub, trout etc. Closed season now, but there's always the summer.
I've had a few folks mention the Wandle, will definitely have to try it out come the next season!
@@tomwilshaw Find a local who knows the river. There are lots of barbel up to 13lb, but they're unevenly spread out, and some of the river is heavily fished.
I blanked in London right from October through to the beginning of March when I switched to dead baits, it can really make you question yourself at times 😅.
Haha, tell me about it! How did deadbaiting go??
@@tomwilshaw Brilliantly, I went from a whole season of blanking to 5 fish in 3 sessions the biggest being 19.4, I was beginning to think pike were a myth made up by big tackle companies to sell me lures 😅
Have lived on the streets of london and being a keen angler ,I can tell you fish are few and far between on the canal system in the greater city area ,nearly all my biggest catches have come out of canary wharf but even there its sometimes a struggle to get a bite ,its only a quid a year to fish canary wharf if your ex forces and about 30 ish for none forces , the canal system comes good once you get past hackney and on to the regents canal system heading north ,then some humongous carp up to 40 pounds roam the water s . other spots to try are around the Olympic stadium above the tidal range locks .
I’ll certainly be going back to Canary Wharf, something super intriguing about it :) although a 40lb urban carp sounds immense!
@@tomwilshaw this is where I spotted two absolute donkeys breeding easily both over the 35 lb mark commons ,plenty have tried to catch them but I,ve not heard of anyone landing one yet .earth.google.com/web/@51.58705497,-0.05642274,5.24492803a,299.39568945d,35y,0h,0t,0r/data=OgMKATA

Thank you!!
I once saw a terrapin the size of a dinner plate swim past when I was gazing into the water outside the Decathlon at Canada Water in East London.
Ha I bet that was a sight!!
Well in Tom smashing it lad 💪🏼🎣
Cheers bro 😁
Great video, well done
I'm headed across the pond to London next month (my first trip to the UK). This video is making me think about hiding a collapsible rod in my suitcase.
Judging by my success… maybe keep the rod in the suitcase 😂 Joking aside, there’s plenty of good fishing in the UK, you don’t have to go too far from London to find it :)
Not sure how this ended up in my feed... but I watched it and it was epic!
Haha, thanks for watching!!
What a beautiful cinematography 👌👌👌👍👍👍👍
Thank you :)
Great videos mate! I recognise the shift from being all "zen" in nature to a crowdy environment of a big city. Me personally i prefer the calmness of creeks and nature of the countryside all day every day😁😁
Same here :) definitely prefer forests and lakes, was good to try something new though!
Amazing video.. impressive editing 💯🔥🤙fish on!!
Thank you! 😁
Should have used a spinner mate. You're guaranteed to catch one. Great video!
Lots of fish in St. Katherine's Dock and big pike get down there 👍🏻
This. this channel is gonnab e big, subscribed and watched all the videos!
So kind 😁 thank you!!
Good skills finding a ZT on offer 😂 top stuff. Great video.
A great bit of kit! Although, I managed to snap the tip of that one too on the train home so, I think I’m the problem 😂
camera work & commentary on this vid is crazy, you should come out here to America bro good fishing in every state you would get some great content for sure
I'd love to one day!!!!! Bass fishing looks epic!
that exact spot your standing at 9.50 mark and all along that stretch of canal past lidl down to limehouse basin is where i used to fish 20 odd years ago when i was about 14 me and my mates used to catch loads of bream and pike there back then even Eels.....its weird seeing where i grew up again shame theres sooo much rubbish in there now ....just found your channel keep up the good work 👍
Cheers Dean :) So strange to hear how it's changed so much, perhaps not for the better which is a great shame.
We enjoyed the video, as for hunting, sometimes you hunt and sometimes you fail, and that is how life is, my friend♥️🇮🇶
It is indeed :) thank you!
Maybe it's worth considering fishing in Gdańsk? During winter you can catch beautiful perch 40+. AlltheBest Buddy
I’d love that! One day!!!!!
Obviously goes without saying but if anyone else wants to try this, you must make sure that you have a fishing rod licence to fish for freshwater species, though you can catch saltwater species all the way up to Teddington on the Thames as its tidal (which you don't need a licence for). Great video by the way.
Absolutely :) always check permissions of local waters too! It’s tricky, a lot of the information is hard to find, but worth investigating.
your channel deserved 100k + subcriber 🎉
Maybe one day! Thank you for the kind words 😁
Literally walking past my work 😅 loved it mate as always
Haha no way!! Message me where! I’m curious :)
Tell you what for your 7th video this is a very impressive constructed video and good editing well done
