    Nice vid. I happen to find yall when I was looking for videos of local water around my house here in Columbia to fish. Enjoy watching you and your brother fishing.

    Thanks for posting. I bought this trailer in DFW TX for my Hobie Pro Angler 12. I also wanted rustproof, sturdy material. BTW, I used to live in Woodbridge VA until a year ago. I miss the DMV coast. Tight lines!

    Really nice video, I'm still on the fence about getting a trailer or just getting a used pickup truck, that's the perfect setup for a Pelican Bass Raider.

    Can you tell me where you purchased your crank wheel you had mounted on the side. That is one thing I noticed when I got my trailer was that it did not come with one.

    Good and informative. I am buying a 5 x 8 aluminum trailer soon. (Fixed, not a folder) The issues with your axle design is that it is a leaf spring. In your weight use, (and my future build) I would opt for a torsion axle...or in my case, I will build my own independent spindle setup with lightweight coils with adjustable spring preload. Simple and easy and not expensive....but also not an option from Northern.

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. Sounds like a good option. I didn't trust myself to take that on considering if I make a mistake the consequences could be major.

    • @artthurman3446

      @@BassBrothersFishingDMV Good that you are cautious. I believe that you would have no issue with a swap from leaf spring to torsion. You can buy one ready to install, just remove the old and put in the new...hmmm maybe not the frame bolt pattern. Dexter Torflex Light axles are quiet and efficient, plus last a long time. The smallest is rated 600 to 1100 pounds. Might be perfect! Check their line and tech:

    Which one do you think is better. Value wise ? And do you think the steel harbor harbor freight trailer won’t bounce as much. Thanks for the video brother.

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a buy it once kind of guy and we know aluminum is lighter and will last longer. From that perspective I would go aluminum. Now if the boat isn't a long term thing I would go cheaper with harder freight. Not sure how the shocks on the harbor freight trailer are stiff or not.

    Another great, informative, video! I'm going to tow this boat inside of my truck for the moment, but will eventually switch to the trailer. Can I ask what length are all the 2×4's cut to(length of trailer and the ones in the side holders)? Thanks again for sharing!!

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The railing is 7 feet long mounted from the front of the trailer back. The length of the trailer is 8 ft. It's easier to load the boat on the trailer if you leave the last foot of the trailer with no railing.

    Hey, couple of questions if you remember assembling this - I just picked it up, and had some issues in a couple of the steps. First was where you install the hinge pieces - it seems like there's a collision between bolts between the middle frame and outside frame, and the bolt to hold the hinge on. No way about it, I can't get that to work the direction they show, but reversing one bolt I can (but now the bolt sticks out towards the wheel instead of inside). Their photo on the product page showed a slightly different set of drilled holes, and I wonder if that's the issue.
    Another question, for anyone who's folded theirs up, did you have to remove a couple of bolts on the spring hangers? They have you install two bolts on both halves - stopping the back from being able to fold up - and never say to remove them. What's up w/ that, are we supposed to just leave it? Not sure whey they were put in in the first place.
    I noticed they just discontinued it and the steel folding trailer, so hopefully this can be fixed - might not be a replacement!

    • @primeral
      @primeral 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I stared at the assembly diagram for a long time at this portion, also. It seems to me that you installed the bolt correctly, with the interfering bolt pointing outward. The nut that's already there has to be removed, though.
      I'm not sure if I'm even going to install the hinge or the two caster brackets. It would be nice to fold this trailer up, but I intend to turn this into a camper so I'll probably never fold it again.

    • @thezfunk
      @thezfunk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right, to fold it you have to pull the bolts out on the back half. I am exploring a wing nut setup or maybe cotter pins?

    Hi Great video. I have this Pelican boat and love it. I am now looking for a solution to tow it to my favorite lakes and ponds. I did not see a 4'x 8' on the Northern Tool site...but they do have a 5' x 8". Did they obsolete the 4" x 8" or is your description in your headline wrong- Thanks!

    Regarding the trailer, is it rated for highway use? Would you trust it for long distance?

  • @paulx2777
    @paulx2777 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's quite easy to remove the shortest spring from the stack, and so what if it knocks the rating down to 700 lb (or whatever)? It makes for a much more relaxed drive and reduced the harshness of the road affecting your payload.

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm totally not concerned about the reduction of payload towing. Just not comfortable removing springs. Maybe one day I'll just dive in and do it. Thanks for the comment.

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've driven this trailer with the bass raider on it consistently around 65 mph but that's me. I haven't had any issues or feeling like the trailers/wheels can't handle it. Not saying you should. Just letting you know what I do lol.

    Hey bro. Are there any issues with this being submerged at boat ramps?

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV

      Absolutely no issues. The trailer is aluminum which doesn't rust and the wood deck was sealed tight. The Sealand is holding up. I think the sealant is good for five years.

    How hard is it to roll around on the trailer by hand?

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's very easy. Doesn't take much effort at all this is due to the boat only being 145lbs and the trailer is all aluminum which is extremely light weight. You'll never find a lighter setup for a 10 foot boat.

  • @urtypicalguy
    @urtypicalguy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you provide the measurements for the railing and size of bolts/nuts used for the railing, please?

    • @BassBrothersFishingDMV
      @BassBrothersFishingDMV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The railing is 7 feet long mounted from the front of the trailer back. It's easier to load the boat on the trailer if you leave the last foot of the trailer with no railing. The bolts, nuts and washes are all 3/8th". Make sure to buy the bolts with a round top not a Hex top to avoid scratching the boat when you load and offload it from the trailer. Hopefully that tip will save you the extra trip I had to take to Home Depot when I realized it after the fact :).

      I think the bolts are metric as it is made in China. I used a 16mm wrench on the bolts and 17mm socket on the nuts. The holes in the trailer I measured at between 10mm-11mm. 3/8" will work.
