Older people or disabled people can get raised beds that are on legs so they don't have to bend down so much. You can put a garden on a back patio right outside your door that way. Even Walmart has them. They are a little expensive to buy, but they should last long enough to get your money's worth of food back. Try using 5 gallon buckets (maybe set them up on a double layer of cinder blocks. You could also look up stackable vertical garden systems. You can grow a good amount of food using the square foot gardening method (book by Mel Bartholomew). If you grow in buckets or containers, get a good book on container gardening so you can cut the learning time and get a better success rate.

You are correct that any of us can pay off our debt. When I divorced 11 years ago I started my single life in Austin, Tx where real estate and rentals were and are expensive with about 18K in credit card debt. I was concerned about the possibilities of losing my job since I saw it happening all around me. It took me about 5 years but I was able to pay off all of my credit card debt, buy a small home and buy a new car since my old one was 12 years old by that time and had almost 200K miles on it. I did indeed lose my job in a buyout and at 63 finding a new job is not easy to do. I retired at 65 debt free with the exception of my home which was chosen so the payment with taxes and annual insurance is a fraction of an apartment rental. Yes, I had to make choices to not do some things I wanted or not purchase things I wanted but really did not need. However, I feel like I made the best decisions to get me to my goal and extremely glad I did.
I read that book many years ago. Solid advice. I'm getting there don't owe alot just alot of payments. Just paid off $18 000 plus in credit cards. If it weren't for trying to get everything ready for what's coming. Would most likely be debt free now. But that's my first priority and everything else is secondary. As we don't know what the upcoming year will be. I do have all my property 6 acres and home ect. Is mine all mine. Couple of vehicles too. So don't owe on to many that are secured. I managed to get money for some of preps with unsecured loans. So if everything goes south I don't loose anything that we need. . Great video Mike........ Jeff
start with the seed and put in a plastic bottle and grow leafs as in Hydroponics placed outside in a few weeks you have Cheep food to eat.. It not the full answer But it a start !!!
The mortgage is a debt, but generally home loans have pretty good interest rates. You may be better off accepting to live with that debt and invest instead. Theres a good chance you could earn a higher percentage return than you're spending on your mortgage interest. Me for example: my mortgage interest rate is 2.375%. On an average year for investments I earn around 9% . This means that my money is doing more for me by buying stocks than by striving to be mortgage free.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas you always have very compassionate videos and I appreciate you sharing your journey. This is the way.
For the people that are broke and can’t start anywhere. Mindset…. You are strong it’s hard to be poor it’s hard to be rich you get to pick start looking at side hustle something your good at. If your good working on cars start selling oil changes. Do what your good at then level up from there. Learn to become your own bank and make your money make money God will make you grow as well as your wealth. God bless
Any time you talk about getting out of debt, there will be 1,000 excuses for why someone can't get out of debt. It's just like talking about losing weight. They've tried every diet and always gain the weight back. Debt and weight changes require lifestyle changes, not temporary "quick fixes." Individuals can't normally borrow their way out of debt by transferring credit card balances or refinancing a mortgage because these don't fix the root problem, whatever that problem may be. I weighed 256 when I started the Keto lifestyle. I am a former college baseball and football player, so I played sports at around 215 and slowly just added a pound or two a year. I have been doing Keto for almost 5 years now. It's a lifestyle change, not a diet. It took me 20 years to build up nearly insurmountable debt. It took me 11 years to get completely debt free. It required a lifestyle change, not some fix it fast gimmick. I retired at 58 in 2020, and my wife retired at 58 this October. We could not have done that if we still had a bunch of debt. Dave's principles are outstanding for debt reduction because they're very simple... and devilishly hard. A mortgage isn't really "bad" debt because it doesn't generally balloon on you. You have a set payment for a set time, and you can pay it early if you want to.
Thank you for sharing this encouraging video I am seriously considering on having my own self-sufficient lifestyle very soon once I get more acreage of land.
You are already doing big thing directing people into financial stability by doing things right, unfortunately people the ones straggling financially they have to find way out by their own. If people learn anything from you even something small it will be big help for them, if they want to change their life a round.
I agree - but I also have a toy addiction :D - one interesting thing, I was looking at downsizing my house - but with interest rates as they are, I can halve the size of my house, and my payments will be the same.... So for now we are just trying to keep this house going, even though the heating\etc are silly!
Me and my wife are retired and we want to downsize too but we see the same thing. Hopefully we get enough from the sale of our house to mostly pay for the new house. Who woulda thunk it would be this crazy?
I was in a class with Dave Ramsey!! Thank you brother for reminding me. Back in Bible college, he had came to teach our class. Great man of God, and he truly likes helping people out of debt. I need to get back into my old books and find his class teachings. God's blessings over you and your family and Merry Christmas! Thanks again for reminding me that God has given the tools and mindset to overcome my debts and get my farm.
I got serious about becoming debt free in 2020. Not that I agreed with the stimulus payments but we put all of that towards our debt and a job fell in my lap end of 21 into June of 22. And we paid off all of our vehicles and our credit card. It is a mindset. This is our First Christmas we paid for in Cash. We have 6 kids and my husband is military. We make his income work for us now being able to save and tithe! I just can't move to a homestead land is way to expensive where we are but I have an older home with a large backyard for the area. Started my garden, planted some fruit trees. Debt seems to be an ugly bully when it is standing over us. Mind set change is a must. Trust God and be faithful. God provides. Don't allow the devil to throw his lies saying you need that credit line to be happy. All those lies are doing is separating you from your purpose here on earth. Refocus, mindset change and yes hard work. But God will sustain you! I still have my house payment. My thought is 2 extra full payments a year and I put an additional 75 a payment towards the principle. We are e8ght over what our area calls the poverty line but we save every month, pay tithe and never miss a bill. God's way is higher. And the money works for me now.
Here’s a thought. I’m getting older and can’t keep up with all the chores. It would be a blessing for me to hire someone to help out. Can’t pay a lot of money, a little bit. Also have a garden area that I’m not able to take care of. Can teach someone and they would share in the wonderful bounty of what a garden will give with a little or lot of work. Can’t afford to hire a contractor for big bucks. Go to a farmer or neighbor and ask for work in exchange for food. That’s the real will “ Work for Food” I went out and picked tomatoes and other field crop. It can be done. I did it! For those like me who can’t do that hard work anymore. Can you watch over the little ones and help their parents? They would be thankful for your help. Can you help with homework? Do you cook? Everyone has talents. You can do it! Our Lord will Bless your efforts🙏
It is important to keep in mind "wants" versus "needs" and once a person does that it makes it easier to not overspend. You are right, God is not a respecter of persons. One has to be patient in the journey to get out of debt. You didn't get into debt overnight and you cannot get out of debt overnight, usually. Good tips, being frugal can be challenging but is necessary while getting out of debt. Keep teaching the how to's! Merry upcoming Christmas!
as always.. right on the "money". anerican in general live on dept, never tought at school, nor at home. as dave says "the debitor is slave to the lender" ;) take care guys
dont know about corrupt. judging by my own high school and college time i dont think corrupt, everybody is just so up to their ears in dept that it just doesnt cross anybody's mind. i was fortunate that i came from a home of immigrants and was thought what i needed to know about money. looking at where i live now in europe, debt, exept a morguage is exceptional and seen as an odity. kids are also tougt that there is no such thing as instant gratification. the latter may be the biggest issue in the us.. people expect and demand instant gratification on every thing and at any time
Snowball is great, Avalanche is better. You pay off your highest interest debt first (instead of smallest debt) and roll it in the same fashion. It is proven to lower your total amount paid vs the snowball method.
I disagree. Snowball is better because of simple human psychology. Paying off a small debt gives you the confidence that you can do it. It gives you the confidence that you can then move on to the next largest. Most people get discouraged if they don't have success quickly and give up.
Please God grant me patience......and give it to me NOW!!! Yes, we do tend to live in an instant gratification society. People think I'm insane for thawing out food in the refrigerator when all I'd have to do it nuke it.
It still filters well however I need to clean it out. When it is very dry here a lot of dust and dirt blew into the system and many weeds started to grow. After cleaning, I may put wed barrier over the top and have holes for the plants to stick through.

So how did you convince your wife to give up her Philippine mentality that tomorrow will take care of itself? After about 11 years living here my wife is finally realizing that tomorrow takes care of itself if you help it some. Enjoy your channel even if I don't see myself getting as deeply into the homestead life as you are.
Thank you. Not sure I did anything to convince her. She had a different mentality to start with I suppose. We also study Bible prophecy a lot and we see how it is going to play out.
Perhaps you didn't mean it this way, but I have to say I'm pretty sure God doesn't only take care of Christians...or Jews or Muslims...we are all God's children.
We are all God's children, absolutely, yes. He is always trying to lead those who have fallen astray, like Jews, Muslims, Atheists, Buddhists, etc back to him be intervening in their lives. He does judge based on the light (knowledge) we have or receive. There will be non-Christians in heaven. Others who have actively pulled away from him have the Holy Spirit withdrawn from them little by little and they are given up to their strong delusions as the Bible says. There were a lot of God's children who were given ample time to get on the ark, only 8 did and were saved.
The details skipped would have been the most interesting parts of the video.... You asked should you provide the numbers? Yes. Sure some idiots will try to troll you but everyone else would be more informed.
Hey Eric, You asked about people who are on a fixed income: I had to retire early on a medical. It took SSI 3 years before I started getting an income. During that time I lived on my savings and when that expired, I had to cash in my State retirement (the government charged me 40% taxes on my retirement). When I exhausted that, I was broke. My mortgage was only $200 a month and my HOA dues were $250 a month. My mom began to pay my mortgage and HOA. My dad was buying my toiletries. I had no choice but to go on food stamps at $200 a month. Believe me that you can live on $200 a month on food stamps. I didn’t buy junk food. I ate a LOT of rice, beans, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I grew veggies in buckets until I could figure out how to plant and water them outside ( I had gone blind, so learning how to do everything was a huge challenge). I was blind for 7 years until God healed me. Through the 7 years of blindness, I had a botched surgery where my liver was damaged so I went into liver failure. Your kidneys follow your liver, so my kidneys failed. 2 years of dialysis was horrible. All this began in 2008. In 2015 I married my wife. It was also that year that the Lord restored my vision. In 2017 I was taken off the transplant list because my health had returned to normal. I still cannot return to work as I still have weakness due to liver and kidney issues. We are very frugal with our spending habits. We sold my condo and took the profits and paid cash for our land. We built our house in the side of our Mtn. We have an attached 1 bedroom 1 bath apartment with a full kitchen. We rent the apartment out to my dad as it’s cheaper for him to live in the apartment and have us care for him than for him to pay to live in assisted nursing care facility. My wife is a RN, so she’s the bread winner. In 2014 my grandma died and left me a $820K trust fund. In 2018 we began to build our house. A few months after the building began I notified my dad that I needed the money from my trust fund so that we wouldn’t have a mortgage. It was then that I found out that my dad had blew all 3 of us grandchildren’s trust funds plus his own trust fund and only had $50K left for my aunt. (In 4 years my dad had spent over $4 million dollars and has Nothing to show for it). So now my wife and I have a mortgage. As I’ve said before, we are frugal. In the last 2 years our vehicles have had to be replaced and Only by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has provided first for my wife with a 2 year old car with only 5,600 miles on it and last week He provided a 19 Subaru Forester for me with only 4,700 miles. Thankfully we still have money in the bank. We grow as much food as we possibly can. We’re able to get our beef and pork at cost from the family farm in MT. Our yearly vacation is spent on driving to MT from our home in WA state (600 miles 1 way), in which time we bring back our 1/2 beef and a cut and wrapped pig. We owe about $1K on our credit card and then we’ll be debt free other than our mortgage. If you have a 30 year mortgage and you make just One extra payment a year, you’ll have your house paid off in 18 years. This is what we’re doing now.
Thank you for this video. In 2009 I was working at a greenhouse with 2 wonderful young Christian men that I still adore to this day. Every afternoon they would listen to Dave Ramsey. I found out that my husband was going to file for divorce, so I quickly beat him to the punch & filed because he had been planning on taking everything. I wound up with the house & credit card debt, which were both about $12,000 that I owed, & my car was about $6,000 on top of that. I was only making $10.00 an hour at the greenhouse, but started paying everything off as aggresively as I could. My sister moved in with me. Then I had 2 surgeries for melanoma, so I had to quit the greenhouse job where I had worked 14 years. Then my sister passed away. I had traded in my car for a 2006 Explorer as soon as I had gotten divorced. I still drive it today. I got a job in a quilt shop 25 miles away, & have been there 9 years ago this past Wednesday. It took me only 3 or 4 years to get all of my debt paid off. My son built me a beautiful 12x16' greenhouse, which we have since converted into a chicken coop/run & I was able to save up enough to buy me a little greenhouse this summer. My credit is only fair since I don't even have a credit card & owe absolutely nothing to anyone. My house was built in the 60's & is still the original builder's grade with nothing ever being updated. I was able to save for a new roof a few years ago. The central air doesn't work, but I make do. It's the best feeling to not owe anything to anybody. I have since retired & still work 2 or 3 days a week. What a blessed life God has given me! God Bless!
@@CountryLivingExperience Amen! And a huge thank you for all the inspiration you & your family provides. I found your channel when I got my chickens & appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge! Merry Christmas & God Bless!

Have to say I love the honesty. One income here and it is tough.
Knowing how to leverage debt is actually something sorely underutilized. I've used it quite successfully a number of times to ironically pay off debt.
I know many people who have gone bankrupt using that strategy. 99% of people should pay off their debt.

Congrats on being debt free! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks!
You’re welcome
Thanks for sharing! We are working to pay off the mortgage and pray we can be full time homesteaders in the future!
Awesome. Keep at it. You can do it!
Keep doing. One day at a time. All this was never a school lesson. Thanks.
Absolutely! One day at a time.
Thank you for sharing your experience. This is definitely on my to do list.
You're welcome!
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas you always have very compassionate videos and I appreciate you sharing your journey. This is the way.
Thank you. Happy to share. Merry Christmas!

Great advice and such an important issue that has to be addressed. Thank you Brother.
You're welcome
Well said. It is certainly a mental game.
Thank you for sharing this encouraging video I am seriously considering on having my own self-sufficient lifestyle very soon once I get more acreage of land.
You're welcome! Glad I could help.
You are already doing big thing directing people into financial stability by doing things right, unfortunately people the ones straggling financially they have to find way out by their own. If people learn anything from you even something small it will be big help for them, if they want to change their life a round.
I understand. I really hope that some will be helped.
I agree - but I also have a toy addiction :D - one interesting thing, I was looking at downsizing my house - but with interest rates as they are, I can halve the size of my house, and my payments will be the same.... So for now we are just trying to keep this house going, even though the heating\etc are silly!
Lol.....toys are fun.
Downsizing is a great idea. Hope these rates drop so you can do it.
That's awesome!
Have a very Merry Christmas!
So glad you started that journey. Congrats! It is a mindset for sure and the Lord blesses abundantly.
That’s the real will “ Work for Food”
I went out and picked tomatoes and other field crop.
Absolutely!
Merry Christmas!
as always.. right on the "money".
anerican in general live on dept, never tought at school, nor at home.
as dave says "the debitor is slave to the lender" ;)
take care guys
Thank you my friend! I so wish schools would teach this but they are corrupt.
dont know about corrupt.
judging by my own high school and college time i dont think corrupt, everybody is just so up to their ears in dept that it just doesnt cross anybody's mind.
i was fortunate that i came from a home of immigrants and was thought what i needed to know about money.
looking at where i live now in europe, debt, exept a morguage is exceptional and seen as an odity.
kids are also tougt that there is no such thing as instant gratification.
the latter may be the biggest issue in the us.. people expect and demand instant gratification on every thing and at any time
Great video, so true
Snowball is great, Avalanche is better. You pay off your highest interest debt first (instead of smallest debt) and roll it in the same fashion. It is proven to lower your total amount paid vs the snowball method.
I disagree. Snowball is better because of simple human psychology. Paying off a small debt gives you the confidence that you can do it. It gives you the confidence that you can then move on to the next largest. Most people get discouraged if they don't have success quickly and give up.
@@CountryLivingExperience hybrid. Start with smallest for quicker wins and transition to highest interest rate.
Please God grant me patience......and give it to me NOW!!!
Yes, we do tend to live in an instant gratification society. People think I'm insane for thawing out food in the refrigerator when all I'd have to do it nuke it.
Can you do a update on your grey water system from a couple of years ago?
It still filters well however I need to clean it out. When it is very dry here a lot of dust and dirt blew into the system and many weeds started to grow. After cleaning, I may put wed barrier over the top and have holes for the plants to stick through.
👍❤️thank you🙏
You’re welcome
Well said.
Thank you
My wife is from the Philippines also
Awesome!
Oh yeah! Dave Ramsey is the man!
Can a glass protect from sunburn to plants ???????
No. It will do the opposite.

Hey Eric,
You asked about people who are on a fixed income:
I had to retire early on a medical.
Amazing testimony Doc! The Lord surely blesses and gives us trials at the same time.
God is great!
God Bless!
You're welcome! What wonderful blessings the Lord has given!
So great you are not a slave to any lender.
@@CountryLivingExperience Amen! And a huge thank you for all the inspiration you & your family provides. I found your channel when I got my chickens & appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge! Merry Christmas & God Bless!
