Hi there! What other animals do you feel are good for people on the spectrum? Or what is your favourite kind of animal? Here is a link to my other autism videos >>> th-cam.com/play/PLU7asIuC9SU_QzuO2ADSzy2do8i7_XUWi.html
As someone on the spectrum, I've always had very strong bonds with animals. Honestly, stronger bonds than I have with most people. Cats especially. You make some excellent points about why someone on the spectrum might enjoy having a cat around, but I feel like it goes even deeper than that. The heart of the matter is that we can just be ourselves around animals. We don't have to exhaust ourselves masking or trying to meet social expectations. We don't have to burn ourselves out trying to read social cues, because animals are very forward creatures. They're absolutely pure in heart in every way, and I think that's why I connect so strongly with them.
That's so true. Animals are pure in their consciousness and are in pre-egoic stage. We absolutely love their company because they don't judge and are in the moment and put us at ease
After my dog crossed the rainbow bridge, i had no intention of seeking out another companion "unless divine intervention occurs again". Well, the universe told a couple of cats that I'm available. It's been a journey of loving and learning 💜🐾
Lets be honest here. Autistic people are so relatable to cats to the point where you can legally say that all cats are autistic. The behavior is just so similar. from over stimulation from touch or noise and avoiding being held or touched unless they want to, to stimming by making biscuits on pillows or scratching the scratcher because it feels good or they feel happy and then feeling amused from movement of toys but then freak out when there is too much things going on. Oh and there is the blast of energy where they run around like crazy. Also they don't like water or wearing things. Having an animal that's just like you or you can relate to is probably a very nice thing and they are quite calm and soothing.
I think rescue cats especially are a lifeline for autistics because they don't judge and will love you unconditionally provided you treat them the same way. At least that's been my experience.
Aww that's fair enough! To be fair any rescued animal with its in a loving home is always a good thing considering some of the stories we hear about rescued pets.
There are so many reasons to like cats. They all have their own personality, but generally they’re clean and calm. They like cuddling, socializing, and being playful but they also know how to do their own thing. Dogs are sweet and loyal, and great for active people who like to go jogging and playing at the park, but my personality naturally seems to make me gravitate towards cats.
I feel like cats are less demanding. My dog Nala is almost always into something, shoving toys in my face, breathing her nasty breath in my face and slobbering everywhere. However, she can (for the most part) be more interactive on demand while cats hold their own schedule above yours 😂
Aww yeah that is true though for me I prefer that thing about cats. Because they do their own thing, I don't feel the pressure that dogs can bring by needing your attention all the time you know.
I have cat... he is very nice to me. I love the sound of his purr and the texture of his fur and the weight of his body and he loves me a lot. He likes to follow me and snuggle with me and when I walk in the room he does a little meow to say hello.
My cat is like a friend to me. He doesn't judge and I feel comfortable around him. And he's adorable Edit: And cats actually do have a smell. They smell nice and clean
Love cats. Yes, cats can be great for an autistic as well as other animals. You're so right that we need to be aware that they can be great. My furbabies are a handful at the moment at my parents house as mum's worried about how they're acting as they tend to walk off the property and that they get scared of many things while exploring their new territory. Many animals can pick up our feelings and emotions... Love your cat Nova. She looks so adorable. I'm hoping that when l go home that l can still be accepted by the younger baby as she's now been so scared and at the moment I'm trying to get my parents and sister some tips on how to make it easier... Used to be a vet nurse in training so will hope to share more soon. Love the video, Andy. Keep up the good work as always.
Cats help with EVERYTHING. Except maybe cat allergy. Actually, that is not true, people who are allergic tend to get used to the allergens of their cat and symptoms subside for that one kitty.
Yeah I was going to say they aren't too bad for that. I use to have an allergy issue with cats before getting one myself. It went away pretty quick! 😻😻😻😻
My son has autism. He loves cats. Cats bond with him as well. His cats allow him to mess with them and it’s amazing the level of patience they give him. 😂
I have two cats. Todd is a jerk and that’s why I love him. He bites my toes in middle of the night if his food bowl runs out or if he wants catnip treats. Ron is a ginger kitty and is very sweet and soft. His purr is loud. They both help me find spiders in the house. We hunt them together. They also hunt houseflies. Ron is best at getting house flies cause he jumps so high. My cats are my bros. They are the perfect pet for autistics for all the reasons you mentioned and more! ❤️
Awww that is beautiful! I must say cats can be annoying sometimes but when they work with you it really helps. Haha actually when it comes to flies and stuff is not too bad though she could be better at it. She spends most of the time in the sink to be honest 😂
I have bad days were I start crying and become developing many emotions and my cat will just start licking my tears and start comforting me until I calm down.
I said to my partner about Henry when we first met & he said it wouldn't surprise him if Henry could sense there was something wrong with me. Henry was really protective of me when I lived with mum. He hissed at & attacked previous boyfriends when he first met them, funnily enough though, my previous boyfriends would use me for money etc. then they'd go & cheat on me. Every time I was angry or sad, Henry would jump up on the bed & lie next to me or sit next to me. He put up with me picking him up & kissing him on the head which he didn't let anyone else do. I miss him so badly. My partner has said we should get a car, but I wouldn't want Henry to think I'm replacing him, because I don't want to. There will always be only one Henry.
When ya cat can choose your boyfriend: It's my way of telling you that, he ain't for u. But I suggest you should do get another cat, it's not gonna replace Henry as you'll always have a spot for him and for anyone you love in your heart
😻 I love cats, they've got life worked out: eat, sleep, play for a while then repeat! And they don't care what anyone else thinks, they *know* they are great.😉
Cats don't judge, they love you for you and don't jump up in excitement and make loud noises. I consider myself as an animal person rather than a people person and I would say cats are the perfect companion, for me anyway.
Cat's are awesome!! They are great for people on the spectrum because they are soothing especially during are after a meltdown, I find the petting to be quite relaxing and can get lost for hours and idk I just understand cats and kinda feel they understand me which is a nice feeling to have! Whenever I constantly feel like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole
Yay 😁 Nova made her duet! What a star she is. ♥️ Although I adore my two dogs 🐕, I’ll always be a cat person. I really love cats 🐈; I know many cats from my local neighbors and from my friends and family. They know I adore cats and they always allow me to say hello (even when they need their personal space) and to pet them. I used to have 5 cats of my own but I really miss having one, so my plan is that when I’m living on my own, I’ll get a cat of my own. And I’ll promise that I would make his/her life purr-fect! 🙂🦋✨
Ooh she isn't her first appearance on the vlog... She was in one of my very old vlogs from 2017... She was even cuter back then. Aww that sounds really awesome I have to say 😂 👍
One time my dad and I had to look after a family friend's cats, which to be honest has put me off cats because they brought lots of dead birds into the house! 😅 But I definitely agree having pets is a good way to teach people about responsibility. I also find pets to be quite mesmerising when I'm visiting a friends house. One of my best friends who's also on the spectrum has a cat and she really loves him 😺
Aww yeah I can understand that is very off putting, especially when they bring live mice into the house. Ooh yeah like you get kind of fixated on them because they are just there? Yeah to me animals are very interesting compared to people 😂
Cats bringing gifts to their humans. It might be gross but it's an offering. They are showing you how good they are at hunting and offering you the spoils.
Cats are the absolute best! As you mentioned, VERY CALMING ❤️ The purrs instantly soothe the anxiety. And they are the most loving creatures (on their terms of course) and I absolutely love how they're like "don't touch me" sometimes. Totally relatable! I would not have made it this far in life without cats. I got my first cat when I was a year old. Motley understood me when no one else did. Same for every cat I have ever been blessed with. Thank you so much for making this video!
I have 2 cats. They do help alot . And company. Not very good when they dont come in when they should do. Especially going missing for 3 days. And when they cry to go out . I have to let them. There are very lovable. I do have a ferret and had lots more previously. They are very lovable . He free roams around the house and doesn't go missing. Hold him like a baby he licks my cheek and goes to sleep. Very playful .
Cats are the best. I think you covered all the main points. Cats don't have the needs that dogs have, they don't demand so much attention and reassurance. I like dogs but I don't need one in my life. I prefer cats.
Yeah that's what I've noticed as a main difference between the two. Of course some cats might need more attention because of needs. However even in that scenario, I don't feel it is a job to do when compared to a dog. I mean I like dogs but cats are way easier to manage. 👍
I didn't think I liked cats until I got two and it was awesome because I'm always up all night and so are they. They don't bark, they spend most of their time hanging out under stuff, easy to feed, no walking them, I can meow at them and they make relaxing purring noises
Garfield does nothing much except to eat lasagna, hates Mondays, and sleeps all day. He is like that all the time even if he has nothing else to do. I guess every cats has their day.
hi We have 2 cats for the first lockdown and daughters are now almost 1 and 2 feel safe with them, always when the children go to sleep they really watch, the vet told this can prevent them always helping the children and she learned quickly the youngest crawl and roll.
Love my baby Bug. She's been with me through so many of my issues. She doesn't like being hugged and she runs and hides when she feels a meltdown coming. Poor girl. 😿 my meltdowns are never nondestructive. She's been through so many she can sense it. Now shes even more miserable cuz shes diabetic AND I found a stray 2 week old kitten after hearing him cry for three days and couldn't leave him out in the cold. He wont leave her alone. Hopefully when he's fixed it changes a bit. I miss my Bug since the boy is an attention glutton. I do try to make time for her but its only when she allows it. :(
I love when one of my 3 cats (Pickwick) sleeps, he snores a lot and sometimes he sucks his little tong while he is dreaming. Soooo cute. Or he and his sister Birdy breath loud now and then. My third one, Brooklyn, meows when she wants cuddles. And they purr a lot. Those sounds are soothing. I feel blessed to have their confidence and love. When there is a big sound, they get afraid and I just have to say 'it's just a truck, everything is all right', and they get back to sleep. I love that, it makes me feel someone good and caring. They all are very sensitive. If I feel bad, there is always one of them coming on my lap, sometimes it looks like they were outside but felt it. There was no animals in my family, and when I get my own place, I adopted a kitten in a shelter, because I thought it would help me to communicate and touch a living being (big issue). She was great because she learned me to love. So yes, cats can really help someone in the spectrum.
I'm someone on the spectrum and I really love, love, love cats, even though I've never raised one. Even though I want to have a cat, I really worried if I could actually care for one properly, since I'm not really great are raising plants or keeping a fish or turtle that escaped from the aquarium and died the next day after we found it a month later (I was really upset about it dying), so I've just resorted to just watching cat videos and learning about cats all day, pretty much every day. I also worry because I lose my emotions really quickly, and if I'd be able to actually care for one in the long term. I really heavily debated if cats do well with people on the spectrum, and hearing what you had to say, I actually feel encouraged, I think, to aim for a cat friend. Seeing cats always makes me want to cry with how soft they are, but they make me feel really happy, I think. I like your video, and your cat is very cute.
(I know this is an old video, but I’ve just found your channel. Loving your content so far!) Caaaaats...oh, cats have been among my special interests since I was like 9 & we got our first kitty, Mew. Nova (pretty girl!) reminds me of Mew. I’ve had four cats in my lifetime: Mew, Tubba, Vern & now Sticky. There are so many stories to go with each, but I ought not start telling those...Tubba & Sticky really taught me a lot about sick care & cat vetting. They each have needed oral or subcutaneous-injection meds. That’s a...wonderful (??) responsibility to have; it came naturally to me & it helped them feel better. I’m a tactile sensory seeker & cant get enough of soft fur! I love rubbing my forehead on Sticky when I wake in the morning (he sleeps next to my head & walks on my hair when he deems it time to get up). Their purrs are so soothing, too! Ok, there’s not enough time to extol all their virtues & how much each of mine have helped me! Thx for reading... I was so excited to have time to watch this! ☮️❤️🐾
Aww wow love the names ☺️ Yeah the purrs and also the softness are the best I think! Also to be fair this video isn't that old honestly... Been doing TH-cam for 3 years so there are way older videos on the channel 👍 Ooh it's so sad because at home, we can't have animals so it is such a shame missing out on that softness of a kitty 😭 Aww well I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much 👍☺️
I didn't peg you as a cat person. I love cats and have one of my own named Maisy although i do like dogs better. When i was diagnosed as a kid my parents read me the book another user mentioned in the comments 'all cats have asperger syndrome' and reflecting on my own experience with a cat and what i remember from that book i do relate a lot to cats and i put that down to a lot of my autistic traits. Great video and cute cat xx
Aww yeah it is surprising for others too I think... Though if you know me in real life it's pretty clear that I'm a cat person especially when I'm interacting with a cat 😊 Yeah I still need to get that book actually because I know it's a great book and I mean cats are cool 😂 Aww thank you so much! She's is very cute for sure.
I don't have trouble with the cat food smell because my nose sense is dulled. It is the sound that is too much for me but smell is normal to under average for me. Which, speaking of... My pet cat has nice smell and makes pleasant purring and meowing noises. Not any of the bad noises he is generally very quiet.
I love all animals immensely, but cat's are my favourite, I have two litter brothers and they are such a joy and comfort, I'm never lonely and my son's all doat on them as much as me, we are share our secrets and troubles with them, they just know us so well, I couldn't imagine a house without cats, and I don't trust people who don't like them. And as I'm not a great judge of character, I watch how people are with my cat's then ask my youngest son if he got picked up on anything either as he is a great judge of character, and has zero time for muppets.
Haha yeah I'm funny with people who aren't animal people to some degree. But cats are my favourite too! Think they are great as they are really chill and just nice company to have 👍
Fantastic video thank you so much for this I totally agree with this I too am on the spectrum for autism and have severe adhd and I have two cats and a kitten they are my world it helps me get get a routine for the day to day tasks and helps for calming me down when stressed and as well they are part of the family when it comes to any one grown up that's moving out of there family home and starting to live one there own having a cat helps with the good company and the every day to day tasks and to me it is the best friend you need when know one is there and thats why they are always there🐱 😊👍❤
I have Aspergers. My mum's partner had a cat named Henry. He didn't like me at first. When I first met him he hissed at me while I brushed my teeth, so I hissed back, just playing. He came over & though he hesitated at first, he got really excited to meet me, we became friends really quickly. My mum once punched me in the face when I went & put myself between my mum & her partner, because my mum was hitting her, Henry saw my lip was burst & bleeding, he got angry, arched up & hissed at & attacked my mum. My mum made me homeless, then threw her partner out, so her partner had to give Henry up. Because he didn't like other people & would normally attack other people, I'm scared he's been put down, especially when the only time he was violent, was because my mum was always terrorising him & dressing him up. My partner is so angry that my mum didn't ask her partner if we could take him, as Henry & I are now parted &, he sees that I'm clearly missing Henry.
I have aspergrers syndrome and cats help me I go to a cat cafe in Liverpool well before lockdown am 36 until next month i have other difficulties I have tattoos also I am going to get a tattoo of a cat that we use to have called phoebe miss her we had to give her back to cat she in a different house and Mille is too.
I’m on the autism spectrum and I love cats and I have 3 cats. I have one cat which I especially bond with. But I kind of love my cats too much like I hold them for too long.
Any subtype of Bulldog, There just the best companion dogs ever and so loyal and friendly, I've got a USA bully presently and the hrs exercise he needs each day helps drive me to get out and take in the fresh air. If you can handle the responsibility or can share it there ideal...
Amazingly 12 years ago aautistic caregiver we adopted a chausie from a volunteer in medical care offering therapy with. Best thing ever did. Higher functioning/and he lives on his own cares for his life better than 3/4 adults I know. Excellent. He harness walks travels with it and now volunteers in nursing home too. This cat thinks it’s a dog. But uses a litter robot and requires permanent bonded home. These cats are much loving of good routines and our lives were overtly blessed by meeting a nurse giving pet therapy with them as a volunteer herself on the spectrum. Do however Just be willing to pay extra for higher quality. We got scammed 1st time by a snotty breeder had no genetic guarantee. Then found one with genetic guarantee personable amazing experience. Mind blowing animal that f2 or ? F3 Chausie; ❤🎉
"Soft and cute and cuddly.."? You haven't met my Sadie! She is awesome though and the point about personal space is valid. For me, however, NOTHING (even my 3 pups, all collies) is better than a rat. Now, you'll probably have the knee jerk culturally based reaction of "Urrgghhh". Rats are smarter than cats or dogs, they require very little space (although the cage must be big enough for them (2ft cubed per rat)) are extremely clean, can be taught tricks and agility (think assault courses) and will give love without bounds. I had to go to court to fight for my PIP and my presence was essential but I was having a particularly difficult time with my anxiety. The morning of the appearance I knew I would never be able to go in without help, so I took my favourite, Itsy as my emotional support animal. I even had to ask if I could take her into the court room, the judge was awesome for understanding and said yes (provided she stayed in the carry cage she was in of course). I can be lonely in a crowed room ever since I can remember. All my childhood memories are of me on my own, I know people were there but I can never see them. With my little furries I'm never alone..and I never will be ;) (a beautiful puss by the way ;))
Aww that's fair enough I mean for me I know rats are great pets. Just not for me personally. Ooh gosh I'm sorry to hear about the PIP situation... Honestly I get how frustrating they can be. It was good that the judge was so understanding though 👍
A cat’s purr is the most calming sound in the world to me. When my cat was still alive she had the most beautiful loud purr that really helped me manage the stress in my body and help with anxiety and help stop meltdowns. I could gently put my ear on her side and just focus on her purr and tune everything else out. Now it’s been shown that a cat’s purr is on a frequency that’s healing.
Well Nova who is in this video is mine and Nicola's cat. However we can't have her in our house as we are not home that often but also we can't have pets in our house as we rent.
You cats are cute i love cats I have autistic i feel connect to animals specially cats and dogs my mom dog love me everytime i come visit he come jumping try to lick me went i talk to my mom and my little sister on phone start going crazy went he hear me talk one day i stay with mom for 2 days come next day my kittens came hug me meowing to me i raised them they orphans kittens i love cats

There is a book called All Cats Have Asperger's Syndrome which shows in many ways that cats are like us aspies
Oooh yea I've heard of that one! Such a great idea for a book.
@@IndieAndy It's brilliant, I think you will like it.
I actually have it now!
It has also been remade to all cats are in the autism spectrum
After my dog crossed the rainbow bridge, i had no intention of seeking out another companion "unless divine intervention occurs again".

I love the smell lol

Love this!!! I have Aspergers and I love LOVE cats. I also love dogs... But cats are my spirit animal
"Can cats help autistic people?" *my dog and I exchange looks* 😂
Haha ooh damn! 😂
I searched “cat for autism” ❤️
Do you happen to be autistic as well?
I searched the link between cats and autism because cats and autistic people are very similar.

Yeah I know what you need like they can be soothing for sure. I think the purring is the most relaxing part of having a cat 😻
My boy has been such a blessing for me. His affectionate nature has given me the ability to love him more than I hate myself.

Omg! You are the first person who speaks my thoughts! That’s exactly what I love about cats!
I have a support cat named Salem she helps me when I have masked all day
Ooh that's really great to hear ☺️
I’m on the spectrum and I love my Himalayan cat to death and so does he to me he’s always with me when I need him
Aww that's cool to hear!
Same here when I was young my cat was always there for me and really helped me develop my empathy and social skills in unexpected ways
hi We have 2 cats for the first lockdown and daughters are now almost 1 and 2 feel safe with them, always when the children go to sleep they really watch, the vet told this can prevent them always helping the children and she learned quickly the youngest crawl and roll.
Both are amazingly soft though favorite thing to do is pet them if I'm sitting still.
I new there was a reason why I love cats so much ahahah nice vid
Aww thank you my dude ☺️
Loving your content so far!)
Caaaaats...oh, cats have been among my special interests since I was like 9 & we got our first kitty, Mew.
Been doing TH-cam for 3 years so there are way older videos on the channel 👍
Ooh it's so sad because at home, we can't have animals so it is such a shame missing out on that softness of a kitty 😭
Aww well I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much 👍☺️
IndieAndy 😻
I think it is pretty obvious how I feel about cats.
Haha yeah but to be fair cats are the bomb! 😻👍
I do love cats!😺😸😻
I love cats more than dogs. I give them their space and they give me mine. Unlike dogs which just want your attention constantly.
Aww well that's lucky because cat food really smells 😭
Aww well that's lucky because cat food really smells 😭
Think they are great as they are really chill and just nice company to have 👍
Fantastic video thank you so much for this I totally agree with this I too am on the spectrum for autism and have severe adhd and I have two cats and a kitten they are my world it helps me get get a routine for the day to day tasks and helps for calming me down when stressed and as well they are part of the family when it comes to any one grown up that's moving out of there family home and starting to live one there own having a cat helps with the good company and the every day to day tasks and to me it is the best friend you need when know one is there and thats why they are always there🐱 😊👍❤
Yeah totally agree with you there about just being good company even when they just don't want the attention 😂
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Happy later birthday, Andy!
My cat is always there for me and I have autism for almost 2 years
Aww that's great Trent! Glad you found a friend! 👍
I love your cat, so cute.
Oooh thank you so much! 🥰
I’m on the spectrum and I think your videos are wonderful
I have autism and I love cats🐱😻😻😻
I love cats and I agree that they are calming but my cat can be really loud.
With my little furries I'm never alone..and I never will be ;) (a beautiful puss by the way ;))
Just watched this rescue in the US th-cam.com/video/oNr8g4wq2KY/w-d-xo.html - hankies at the ready!
Aww that's fair enough I mean for me I know rats are great pets. Just not for me personally. Ooh gosh I'm sorry to hear about the PIP situation... Honestly I get how frustrating they can be. It was good that the judge was so understanding though 👍
I'm autistic and I have 10 cats :P
Awww my gosh! 🤯 Can I come and pet your cats? 😂
I like cats.. I like chihuahuas and shih tzus and golden retrievers
Cats have a smell if you sniff their heads. :) It smells nice. Kitten heads are even better, like baby head smell.
Oooh now that's abit of a weird fact but kind of cool too 🥰👍
😂 I didn’t know that
@@kaleidojess smell a cat head they smell good XD
Sometimes I wonder if Autistics are typically animals but were reincarnated as humans, cats especially. My childhood dream was to become a cat.
I have a dog and it’s a Yorkie
I love cats
A cat’s purr is the most calming sound in the world to me. When my cat was still alive she had the most beautiful loud purr that really helped me manage the stress in my body and help with anxiety and help stop meltdowns. I could gently put my ear on her side and just focus on her purr and tune everything else out. Now it’s been shown that a cat’s purr is on a frequency that’s healing.
Cats come from the same planet we austics are from. 😻😽😸
turn out like feather jack just say drink ass girl and nerves reverse
Cats can be as loud as dogs, they just choose not to raise their voices, because they're too proper for that.
You have the same cat I want so bad!!
Aww that's cool!
Is it understandable that cats may be on the spectrum because they display similar traits in humans?
Hmm no no I wouldn't say that. Just some of the behaviours of a cat are kind of similar to autism.
*THEY PURR!*
😻
Love the cats???? 😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻
@@IndieAndy Uhu 😹😻
Can’t say I’ve been much of a cat person
I'm guessing you are more of a dog person? 👍
You should own a cat!
Well Nova who is in this video is mine and Nicola's cat. However we can't have her in our house as we are not home that often but also we can't have pets in our house as we rent.
I feel pets are important for Autistic people. I keep a Budgie parakeet & a fish tank. It calms me and it does help.
I used to have a cat but she dide when I was 9 but now I have a dog
Aww no I'm sorry to hear that 😢 But I must say are just as awesome 👍
