Ok, that's new information for me! I have to say, I've died in situations where I had Dummies. A lot of it comes down to panic and not having the muscle memory to pop it when you really need it. I'm telling ya - that gnoll briarthorn liferoot case - in vanilla wow 2005, mobs did NOT spawn like that. They didn't have mass spawn timers. After a mob died, it started let's say 15 minute timer and after that it spawned. So if you killed one mob at minute 1, another mob 30 sec later, then they would spawn in different times (the other mob would spawn 30 sec later because it died 30 sec later).´That spawn for 8 mobs was not vanilla-like at all. and it's stupid.
Mobs do not spawn exactly X amount of time after they die, there is some variance, so it is possible for multiple mobs to respawn at the same time. What happened in the briarthorn clip is not respawns tho. You can see the first gnoll to run on the screen is a low health Fenrunner. The Fenrunner specifically will run away at low health to go recruit nearby gnolls to help. It happened to run to a large pack of Trappers.
While correct, Blizzard changed the spawns to be forced spawns for mobs that were for quests due to the high population, especially early, of players. It was determined that it was significantly less fun for hundreds of people to wait on the same mobs to spawn over time. This is much worse specifically for single mobs, but even certain quest mobs. In unofficial hardcore this issue came up time and time again. But like others said, this was a fleeing issue not a spawning issue.
@@StNeurion You're right about the runaway mob pulling helpers. I can't believe there's 3 people and none of them are aware of a runaway mob, and they pull more. Also, it helps to understand how aggro works with multiple players: when mobs chase players, they only drop aggro on ONE TARGET AT A TIME. They will then switch to the next player on their threat list and chase them for another 10 seconds or so. If the first player does anything that causes threat during this time, they're back on the threat list. So running away from a fight in a party can be very different from solo.
