I am a dancer and Freeds are one of the hardest point shoes that I ever tried, which makes it really hard to dance on. Some Freeds have a really ugly colour kind of yellow orangery so yeah they aren’t that beautifully

Go to the Freed of London website and watch their videos of the Makers (and other craftsmen and women!) who work 6-8 hours a day virtually non-stop to hand make each Freed Pointe shoe! They are so humble and proud of their work, it is absolutely beautiful. The Makers know each individual pro ballerina's foot, repertoire, injuries, needs and aesthetic preference. Seriously, watch them you will be so glad you did!!!
Freeds website has a page with some mini bios and pictures of each maker. B has a full bio and picture. Star only lists his years of experience, which is the same as B, and he has no picture. I just got fit by Freed when I was in London and I love mine! I’m in classic fish maker now. I also learned that if you can buy them when you’re in England they’re soooo much cheaper than buying them over here so I stocked up.
Wow! Pointe sizing? I now 54 years old, but would love to get back into dancing. When I was younger and a US size 7.5 - 8, I was being fitted into size 3.5 pointe shoes. (Yes it hurt!!!!) I am so glad to see the improvements in pointe shoe fitting. In the 1980's there was this trend to squeeze someone into a much smaller size. No wonder ballet dancers had such problems with their feet!!! Many thanks Josephine for your insights into pointe shoe fitting. I am so happy that the younger girls and women are not going through the torture that happened 40 years ago.

My best friend was a dancer throughout our childhood and into our early adult years. I had other activities of my own keeping me busy, but when I wasn't doing those, I was in the studio with her watching rehearsals. Every recital, online videos, SYTYCD...she made me obsessed with dance! I really do LOVE it...but sadly, although I've got great feet, I have zero rhythm or grace, lol. This video was so interesting to me...the shield shoe clearly stood out as the best to me, even as a non-dancer. I love learning about all the nuances of the fitting process and the way each dancer customizes them to their anatomy specifically. 💜🖤

I have been dancing on point for like 6-7 years (ages ago, I don’t dance anymore) for once a week on the same pair 😂 these video’s always make me want to go back again. I got my shoes out now to see if I have a special mark for a maker, but sadly can’t find anything 🙈

Omg! I danced there for 14 years! Since age 5! Our family was close to the original owners. They are in Agoura, CT how funny! Some beautiful dancers came from there and went professional!
I wear Freeds, and I LOVE them!! They are comfortable and really easy to break in! I do jet glue my box before I wear them. I wear wineglass, so pretty and feel great!! Also I can make mine last 2 weeks with jet glue!!💗💗

I’m a rock climbing and the loose shoe thing is true in in my sport as well. I started with shoes the same size as my street shoes and now my climbing shoes are a full size and a half smaller than my street shoes because I get so much more control lol
Wineglass was so pretty! It makes me feel better that Luna's feet were swollen from heat. I bought new dress shoes and work shoes in the winter. I CAN'T wear them in triple digit weather. My feet were just shredded.

I just got my first pair of pointe shoes a couple of months ago and I’ve been really struggling to get all the way over my box. Any tips or advice for how to increase my ankle flexibility?
Jina Thompson it’s probably a lot more about foot strength than flexibility. I would suggest foot ankle and calf exercises along with stretching your feet
do a lot of releves on each foot maybe like 8-16 everyday and it'll help ur ankle strength and calf strength. U also just need to make sure u've broken ur shoes in well; sometimes getting over the box is difficult if they're too new or is you use them rarely.

A lot of brands are mass produced but Freed’s are hand made. You can find videos on TH-cam of the makers making the shoes and it’s really cool

Get a thera band-there are exercises you can do with them that will help!
