Please please do quality perimeter drainage, PVC perf with lots of 3/4 clear crushed gravel and filter cloth! Where your house is positioned there will be lots of ground water and hydraulic pressure, the previous owner tried to mitigate it with a waterproof membrane on the floors but it’s better to dig outside and get the water away from the house foundation with proper drainage 😉
You won’t ever regret doing it properly!
We love watching you, but everyone in our house laughed our “arses” off every time you, non-ironically, talked about having this stuff all done in 6 months! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
At this rate I'll give them 2yrs 😂 jks
@@itsamyyy91and that’s just waiting for the Scottish Planning Department 🤣 (Only joking hopefully 🤞)
Let alone getting the building warrant..
Scotland building regs are so much more complicated than England. Our warrant just for garage conversion took 11 months. When we moved in we were like 6 months it'll be done. It's now 2 years later and not done 😂
Make sure you sell your copper and scrap metal! You probably have already thought of it x
I would suggest if you think your forest is going to be cut down, I would start planting your own little forest right on the edge of your property. So if they cut down your forest, you will still have lush trees to look at.
Great idea!!!
Defo!!!
Do you know Jesus is a messenger of God
@@ytc257do you know not everyone wants to have Jesus shoved down their throats constantly

Turn in the copper pipe for money! It’s worth a lot. People actually steal it from abandoned homes
We need a coffee table book filled with pics of the various hairstyles of Craig and Aimee. His house reno hairstyle era is fabulous and I am here for it!!! 😂😂😂😂
I was watching w headphones, and my fiance walked up randomly and goes, “I dig his hair….”
Do you have a mud room incorporated into your plan? A place to remove your Wellies and shrug off and hang your jacket? Leads to more organization and a much cleaner home underfoot. Love your plan! You are great workers and thinkers.
I'm not 100% but I'm sure Aimee mentioned one when they were discussing each design x .. she prob just said somewhere to hang coats..take off boots x
We are some 1200 km South of you, a stone farmhouse dominated by the gulfstream. We need to supplement our air source heating with a log burning stove consuming 2 cubic metres of hardwood per winter. DO NOT abandon a log burner in rural Scotland.
We live in southern Ontario in Canada. Our heat pump works most of the year for heating and cooling. When its too cold we have a gas furnace that kicks in to keep the house warm and comfortable.😊
Everytime I tune in I expect your cottage to just be rubble lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I feel like you guys need Eamon and Bec to come help for a week or so! I’d love that episode!
That would be the best episode ever!
Yes!!! You guys are awesome. My husband and I are shopping around for our next home with 50+ acres so we can raise our animals, grow our own food and plant an orchard. We are also expecting our first baby in October. Your videos give us such joy.
You’re going to be awful busy
@@timbrawdy2249 why would you even say that?
@@ladyeofaniIt was probably supposed to say awesome, sometimes autopilot fills in the wrong words
@@ladyeofani maybe you don’t understand the reference. It means you’re going to be really busyz
@timbrawdy2249 I guess I took it for face value. We already homestead but this will be on a whole new level. Yes, you are right.. we will be busier than ever.
Love your enthusiasm, very jealous, would love to do a reno. Husband and I are Before and After addicts...Watching this in our VW in Braemar Campsite...thinking of you down the road!
I absolutely adore this property! With a growth in youtube content views, subscribers, add revenue, brand deals and sponsorships, merchandise sales, etc.....I believe you can steadily achieve your dreams. There's tremendous potential in this home, though it clearly requires extensive renovation - essentially, starting from scratch or rebuilding from the foundation up. I hope renovating proves more cost-effective than a full demolition and rebuild. Despite the considerable work ahead, I wholeheartedly share your vision and see the magic you envision. I'm genuinely excited about your renovations and wish you both nothing but success.
I agree - please have a wood burning fireplace/wood stove to supplement your heat pump. Power goes out, you have heat! You will have free wood to burn from clearing your land.
Yeah and get a double burning one with a fan.
Look into 'swimming ponds' instead of swimming pools. Much better for nature, absolutely beautiful, no chemicals and less maintenance. Would be much more in-keeping with the cottage vibes than a pool 🌱🌻🤿
You've probably considered this but I'd lime plaster it, not gypsum plaster. Lime will keep it warmer and allow the walls to breath and protect your stonework
Take the estimated end-date and double it, guys!! 😅😅 It's gonna be awesome, can't wait to continue on this journey with you!
It seems like you really don't want a traditional old cottage, but a very modern house.
You guys are the best and my favorite!! I hope all is well with Garry and your Dad.
Thank you Diana!!
@@kingingitomg Garry from Barry should come help with the build! He did wonders on the van!
@kingingit I'm still praying 🙏 you can get some local officials to help you keep your forest 🌳 🌲🌴🌿 even to keep half of it. Isn't there anyone that you can meet with to stop deforestation!! 💔
I look forward to your videos every week. You always make me smile ❤️
If I were you guys I’d Find my property line that backs onto the forest and plant your own trees that won’t get cut down ❤ , LOVE LOVE LOVE this chapter of kinging it.
Loving it! I recognize you do a lot of work you don't film. I know filming slows down the progress. Slow and steady wins the race. I am loving watching you guys having fun yet working hard.
Hugs from 🇨🇦
I JUST JOINED THE CHARITY RIDE....!!! .. time for loads of fun and a numb bum...!
So happy for you guys and what an amazing oasis this will be for you two!❤ I hope Aimee’s dad is doing okay as well! Praying for you guys!❤️
Where are eamon and Bec….. the Renovations pros❤
@@haanimely981 they’ve not long had baby, they’ve a couple new videos out!! :)
They’re back in their cabin- shown today!!
Flat rooftops are a bad idea, especially where it gets cold, ice, and snow. You need to have some degree of a slant
Agreed. Although I did notice in the architect mockup that the "flat bit" lookes slanted outside so maybe they are just going to make it look Flatter Inside with plaster work
It's not a flat roof if you look at plans, it's slanted. ❤
Agree!
The foamy bit on that plant is the nest of an insect called the froghopper, aka the spittlebug. They’re mostly harmless unless you plan on becoming strawberry farmers.
Growing up we'd call it cuckoo spit 😅
Sorry just said this before coming across the comment you already made 👍🏻
P.s love watching your videos! Thanks for letting us be apart of this journey with you!🎉
The snug Is necessary. Always nice to have a second sitting area for different light, activities, and some separate space. Maybe I missed it but a shower, toilet, and sink on each floor is a Must! Good luck! 🍀 🔨🏴
The fastener that came out of the wall is called a toggle bolt in the states. They are used to attach things to the drywall when you cannot find or hit a wood stud.
Some versions are called molly bolts. Usefull for holding up heavy things on a sheet rock wall. When you unscrew them properly the toggle part falls off the screw and just lands in the wall space behind. But since you're tearing out the wall anyway it's a moot point.
If Craig gets basketball court then Aimee gets a swimming pool.🤷🏻♀️
Hello, lovelies! Thanks for taking us along on your journey! 🧡💕🥰❤️🙏🏻
I'm still very distracted by Craig's lack of moustache 😂 I can't stop staring at his lips 🙈
He looks better without it.
I was watching him for ages wondering what was different 😂 makes him look years younger
I agree that he looks much better without it

We’ve moved into a house that’s had underfloor heating put in in the last 15 years. One year in, our electric bill in the winter is mad. Given you’ve got colder winters, make sure you have the best (or double) the amount of insulation under the heating component. This will help put the heat into the house rather than the ground/foundations. Good luck ❤
They are using an air source heatpump which will heat the water for the underfloor heating. This is more energy efficient than straight up electric.
@@OneLessCar Sure. I don't know any of the details of ours so bear with me. If there is a good option and a better option of stopping the heat going into the ground, then it's better to go with the better option, yes?🙂
I needed to stop by and tell you how much I appreciate you. Thank you for always putting a smile on my face and having a positive vibe on this world.
You’re in Scotland now…… squash it is not….. diluting juice it is 😙
Love it ALL ❤
Or mixing up juice
That stairway is gorgeous, surprises around every corner. So EXCITING 😁
This is fun watching you guys renovate your cottage. Craig! I'm really digging your longer hair and your hair styles.😊
Sp glad you'll get to enjoy being surrounded by nature! Hubby & I retired to a nature-surrounded home in the Arkansas Ozarks, where today a mother deer is browsing in full view of the living room windows, with her THREE fawns hiding in the shrubs. It never gets old!
Swimming pool in Scotland is madness you will never be in it , hot tub would be more suitable
*heated
Plus it’s been high 20s this week defo needed a pool
This is gonna be amazing guys! One thing I’d change is the walk in wardrobe. Not sure if I’ve understood correctly but do you have to go through your bathroom to get to the wardrobe? If so, what happens if someone is in the bathroom and you want your clothes? Is there a way to have built in wardrobe elsewhere? Or some people have the walk in wardrobe on the way to the bathroom. Food for thought! Can’t wait to see this all unfold
❤best wishes with your timeline for achieving your renovation completion goal🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🙏🙏🙂
the both of yous are just simply amazing people, your home reno gonna be just perfect. the charity event gonna be amazing. love you both and you're videos
I've just found you on here and love you guys. I haven't long moved to Scotland in the Highlands in a caravan and love it, let's see if I love it in winter though xx
Don't bin that copper, the price is through the roof just now
Air source DONT DO IT seriously take advice from a small indy plumber expect your energy costs to bloat 3-5xv any current alternatives.........
All my favourite people in one video!!! ❤ Sarah on the sofa 😂
Getting an air source heat pump in scotland is absolutely mental. Look into it a bit more and mayne speak to people that have them. It's going to cost you a fortune in electricity! They do not work as well as they're supposed to.
Imagine the cost of 2KW + running almost 24hrs a day in the winter.
So many people in the UK don't understand heatpumps. Scandinavian countries and Canada use them and you don't hear this fear mongering rhetoric. The key is good insulation and sizing the system correctly.
Exactly. So an old stone built cottage that's having the insulation removed. Probably not the best idea. Also, the ones used in Scandinavian countries are significantly better. Thanks for proving my point. Not sure about the anti uk rhetoric tho....
I look forward to watch my fellow south wales TH-camrs every Sunday. It always makes me smile
The heat pump is a really bad idea in Scotland.

@@OneLessCar They don’t work if you have power cuts. We often have power cuts in rural Scotland in the winter, sometimes you can have several a month.

I’m sorry you had such a terrible realtor. You should have known about the roof and the forest 😢 massive realtor fail
Loove the plan! Here a silent viewer but as an interior junkie I need to comment: lovely design, great ideas! look into harmonica windows!!! And if you install one: make sure that the floors of inside and outside are on the same level and create an inside-outside connection.
An air source heat pump in Scotland is not a good plan - speak to your neighbours about that . Also it would help having Scottish architects/ builders etc, they would advise better on things like that - and the flat roof idea 😕
So many people in the UK don't understand heatpumps. Scandinavian countries and Canada use them. The key is good insulation and sizing the system correctly.
@OneLessCar ground source heat pump yes, air source - no . Its a different climate here - damp , not a dry cold like Scandinavia.
Agreed plus electricity costs in scotland @Helen-b1k
Aimee and Craig, congrats on the Welsh bicycle charity event👏👏👏👏👏
You two are very good at demolition!❤️❤️
The foamy white froth is what we've always called Cuckoo Spit (Edinburgh area) a white frothy liquid secreted by the nymphs of a sap-sucking true bugs known as a froghoppers. They are also known as spittlebugs.
Yep we had cuckoo spit in Yorkshire too
Another entertaining video... love your channel and your unbridled enthusiasm for every task you take on.
Craig and Aimee, Lee would be so proud of you guys.
Crappy days are always made better with KingingIt❤
Wow! You guys are doing awesome things! 👏👏👏👏
lol I go through 20lbs of birdseed every week and a half and I don’t live in the country or a wooded area. Once they know you’ll keep refilling it, they will eat you out of house and home 😂
Same with me! Food out and nothing for about a month. Now even if I fill up five times a day it’s not enough! I live on a housing estate too. Countryside close by. Costs a fortune!😂. I also had a nesting box up for six years and it was never used. This year it has been! I was as thrilled and just sat watching them pop in and out! So nice!😊
@@Chrissyhappy I started putting it out so that my cats would be entertained by the birds but now I’m more invested in them 😂 I also now gets squirrels, chipmunks, bunnies, pigeons, cardinals, blue jays and so many others. Air source heat pump will not keep Amy warm enough in the winter in Scotland, I hope you are also installing a log burner as well.
Tell that to all the Canadian, Norwegian and Swedish who use them as standard.
Removing the commercial tree forest will vastly improve the light around your area and add value to the cottage. I love trees too yet you will have a different landscape to explore as new planting slowly reshapes everything over the decades.
Right…sunlight and warmth.
Doesn’t replanting mean chopping down again? Doesn’t that mean your living next door to an industrial sight?
@annelee2005 Its a commercial forest, thats what its grown for. Not the responsibility of previous owners / estate agents / surveyors to inform. Its just a known fact that commercial forests are grown to be cut down. Its not a natural forest , does not create biodiversity and once its farmed, the land can return to its natural state.
It’s coming along great!! A bit of inspiration for us across the pond as well 🎉
Loving the plans you have for your new home! I'm so excited for you guys! ❤❤❤❤❤
I´m almost getting more excited to se Aimee's cozy cottage than anything else!
So funny to give the nick-name Trev. Here in NZ there was an iconic comedian called Fred Dagg. He called any classic kiwi farmer type guy a "Trev". Love it 😂
Enough money for a plot of land with the costs of removing most of the old... nice, but you can actually build anything on the plot.
Love you guys ❤
You 2 are amazing, loving the house in Scotland videos. Just brilliant 😂
Love your videos.. ❤❤❤ please make sure that the Forest is not chopped down .. SAVE TREES 🌲 , 🌳 ..

The fire in the old red room could go to the barn as a design feature / cupboard or set up to give heat in there.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Done by Christmas? I love your enthusiasm I bought a house to renovate and my man and I are doing all the work we can that is not needing to be done by a qualified trades person, got the house in February and thought we would be in by xmas lol that was 4 years ago. Just keep your head up and roll with the punches my loves and I can't wait to see your amazing home cozy and livable plus all the moments in between.
By which Christmas? ..... Just asking. Get trades to do the waterproofing, drainage and roof so it doesn't have to be redone any time soon. I know you want all the things, but the basics are worth paying to do right. You can get a sauna and all the rest after the house is dried in, sealed up, and has heat.
That's such a steal. We paid 175,500 for our 4 bed 2 bath modular home here in Boise Idaho USA 😮
More than £100K to do it up do you reckon guys? Plans look incredible 👍
Love the design of the cabin. Can’t wait for more of this cabin redo series 🥰 but where’s the Big Man List? 😅
You can make good money harvesting the trees , with good management
They dont own the trees or the land they are on.
If going ASHP then please add solar and battery storage to save you loads, especially once the woodland is removed and you’ll get more daylight in winter on the solar!
Creators pleassseee look into better help and learn why it's a bad idea to continue to push that company. It doesn't matter how much they pay in sponsorships, they're an ethically corrupt company.

@@truth.477it is pretty simple they have engaged in serious breaches of privacy, shared private info with 3rd parties, the quality of therapists have been in question, and they have engaged in deceptive billing practices. It is very much a for-profit industry and the client is used first and foremost to bring in that profit. Yay on uncovering the granite!!!

Lads, I said a while ago that a reciprocating saw would make your demolition job so much easier. Yes, smashing with sledgehammer makes for a more dramatic video, but if you get and use one, you will definitely thank me. 😘
Hi guys youre doing a sterling job so far..keep your old copper pipes etc and weigh it in at the scrappy u should get a decent amount and you can use the money towards something else. X
Don't you think those who sold this land knew that the forest was about to be cut down????
The forest is probably why everyone bid high. Money should be refunded to you from the seller and or the realtors on both sides who are paid to research since this happened so quickly they knew.
Buyer beware !!
The very same thought crossed my mind too. I think you should ask around and see if the seller knew about this. You don’t just decide to chop a forest down so quickly. The time scale between selling and buying and chopping doesn’t add up!
It's also the responsibility of buyers to research. In the US, National Forests similar to this have long range plans available 10-20yrs out. Plenty of heads up on when areas will be logged. If you buy near public land, it's always a good idea to look at their long range plans. Unfortunately, you just have to look at this forest to know it's commercial and not a thriving healthy forest. Enjoy it while you can, vote towards more sustainable logging methods, and hope a more biodiverse, native ecosystem is created in the future.
Its a commercial forest, thats what its grown for. Not the responsibility of previous owners / estate agents / surveyors to inform. Its just a known fact that commercial forests are grown to be cut down. Its not a natural forest , does not create biodiversity and once its farmed, the land can return to its natural state.
Sellers are only responsible for letting you know about the property itself. Not the properties around it. There’s no “refunds” on home purchases unless there is something major that was kept hidden about the property you’re buying.
I think a more realistic time frame would be Christmas 2025. 😊
