I REALLY miss my '79 SCOUT II CUSTOM DELUXE 4x4 AUTO LOCKING HUBS model. "WOODY" was a good, faithful friend. REALLY turned heads up here in the northern NYC suburbs.
Thanks for pointing out the flaws. Its still a beautiful truck and I'm sure the guy who bought it is very happy with it. You did a great job with your very detailed tour. Thanks for the video.
Many of the cars i see on here take me straight back to my youth. What i wouldn't give to be able to afford one but at least i can see them here so thanks for that? New favorite channel
They had a problem right from factory rusting from inside out at rear rockers. My dad being a ih mechanic got them for free. But they didn't advertise that they had that problem. But you could get free fenders
Interesting... My Scout has the same chrome grill treatment in the middle, but doesn't have the square headlight surrounds, just chrome rings. I think I like mine better. Also, I thought this particular grill treatment was either '73 or '74...
He rusted away!!! Even after multiple rebuilds of the body. 304 engine was STRONG and through the transfer case VERY torquey! Only flaw? Need to shut down to shift into SUPER LOW GEAR. No way to do it "on the fly".
Fir it's day? The SCOUT II was actually VERY economical compared to its BEHEMOTH competitors from CHEVY, FORD, AND PLYMOUTH/DODGE. Only one that indoor parking garages in MYC area allowed in. The others? Too damned tall for the "urban" or suburban mall garages.
Poor IHC... Met an unholy, premature demise except for the Medium and HEAVY DUTY trucks. Farm machines division that went to "CASE" in the merger didn't help.
Your brakes probably worked terribly on this. You have the wrong master cylinder for your setup. Your master is for a drum/drum set, not disc/drum. Disc/drum masters have a notably larger forward reservoir because discs take a lot more fluid to actuate than drums. With your setup, the rears are going to engage long before your fronts grab at all.

Good machines. VERY RELIABLE and went through ANYTHING in 4x4! Great in the deep snow!!!

Seven Spanish Angel's. Ray Charles and Willie Nelson. Great song!
I love these cars since I saw one at the beginning of that movie Deliverance, I would love one with woodgrain panels.
My parents bought bew that same scout in 75 and drove it till 93 and sold it.(304 v8 2x4) mom called it easy 80(mph)
Thats one clean IH Scout. What a looker. Nice

I WEPT when I had to give up my SCOUT II. Felt like I was sending an old friend to the "glue" factory!!! R.I.P "WOODY".
4X4 LOW? YOU GO, GO. GO!!!
when you put it into 4x4, mine has a light on the dash that says FRONT AXLE ENGAGED
Well Explained, Thanks. I have a 1972 !
Oh? What a sweet, sweet sound!!!
I’ve got a 74 with a 345 in yellow but no chrome. It does have a front tire carrier though. Yellow,.......my most UN-favorite color, lol !
I recall the post office used Scouts for mail trucks. Not sure if they were right hand drive.
never knew that! Pretty sweet!

If I remember right, the Post Office Scouts were right hand drive 2wd
