Honestly I feel the real truth is to people who are just used to and like consumer headphones/a lot of bass these arent bloated, but to a audiophile especially someone that like high detail/neutrality they are definitely bloated.

YOOO WHAAAT?! I LITERALLY just got my maple silver versions of these in the mail three days ago!!
And oh my GOODNESS, yes! Absolutely worth every penny. Did have to pad swap to some thick fluffy pads, to make them comfortable, but oh man.. that just completed the already pretty much perfect package. Tones the bass down a bit, but I just bring it back with some EQ, and now they're simply the best set of cans I've ever had the blissful pleasure of setting on my head.
If you're on the fence because of price. Just do it. You won't regret it.

I have the Neos, wish I started with Meze on the whole "audiophile journey" thing. Could have saved a couple thousand dollars. Amazing build, warm, luscious sound. The Neo is so much fun that even though I own headphones 10x its price, it's not going anywhere. I'm not sure Brainwavz "sheepskin" is actually true sheepskin but the pads are comfortable and they work well with the Neo.

I bought these a couple years ago and everything you said about them is true. For quite a while I really liked them. But there were two huge issues with them, which is why I never use them anymore. The memory foam feels nice, but the cups are just a a tiny bit too shallow (or the foam is too soft). When you first put them on, they feel really nice, but after two or three hours you start to feel the cup pressing against your ears. To the point that after wearing them very frequently, I started to get visible (and painful!) bruises on my ears from them. My head isn't particularly huge and neither are my ears, though neither are small either.
Also (which is in my opinion way more important) a 330€ (which is what I paid for them) headphone should not have PU leather ear pads. After a year or so it started cracking for me, as PU leather does (the headband was perfectly fine though). And you don't just have to replace them (seemingly frequently), but you also get these annoying black PU leather shreds everywhere (your hair, your ears, your facial hair). I did wear them almost every day, but I still think the material should either not break that quickly or should be something entirely different (imho preferred). I get that velours would probably not have looked as nice, but it's used on most other good headphones for a reason and PU leather is always a major pain, especially on a headphone.
After I replaced the ear pads, they pretty much just sit in their case (which is very nice and I don't think you showed btw.!).

I also rarely reach for closed back. I'll be honest these were junk to me until I swapped out the pads and got the Meze silver plated cable. I wouldn't do it again. The cost of the pads ($69) and the cable ($109) was stupid but I did it anyway. These are really comfortable and the sound is pretty good now.

Wow, thats a lot for the cable! I'd have a hard time getting behind it for that cost. At $50, it was an easy dub. Haven't felt the need to pad swap them yet but def looking at some Dekoni options. Whats your favorite closed back?

I wasn't aware of the $49 cable on Amazon. It seems hidden. If you search for Meze 99 balanced cable it wont show up. Maybe it's because they are out of stock for now.

@@badseedtech DT 177X GO :) I think you recommended those too.

@@badseedtech I did everything to my T50RPs to improve them; Shure 1530 earpads, Deerskin strap, strong enough amp, and they still couldn't produce anything close to the Mezes. I mention the T50s because I wanted to send them in for mods but they are so backed up. I personally don't have time for that. With the improvements I tired on the T50s. these Mezes suffice. I'd chose the Mezes over the T50s.

So these are better than the 177x?

Hi, I'm looking to get them for non-competitive gaming, movies and maybe some music listening at my PC. Just some death metal, maybe some electronic or classical. Massdrop has em for 200. You think its a good choice? I'm currently on Sony MDR-XB950BT, and just looking for a new toy. Can't have open back due to proximity of the wife situation...

I love my 99’s and want to try to run them balanced. Can some one suggest a budget amp that would make a difference I could hear that would be better than running them off a iphone with an apple dongle.
