I took a Caribbean cruise back in December. I met a very wealthy older guy who lives on cruise ships. Says they feed me, clean my bathroom and make my bed. It's better than living in a senior's home. It sounds like a life I could get used to.
I met a similar couple on a Carnival cruise between California and Mexico a few years back. Apparently, the cruise lines don't mind and even give them special privileges such as allowing them to stay on the ship when everyone else has to disembark.
@@robinsattahip2376 The cruise lines love people like that. This old guy hangs his hat in Naples Florida and cruises mainly in the Caribbean. I have 3 years until retirement and plan on doing 2-3 cruises a year. Living on a boat is a bit too rich for me. lol.
It's a good idea if their health permits them to do so. Healthcare is pretty basic on cruise ships and it is hard to manage well many chronic illnesses that way.
I wish i can live out such a lux life when i get old 😂

Hi from Thailand, it's not just taxing, it's public pensions (the foreign equivalent of Social Security) that governments are using against expats or to keep people at home and spending their benefits at home. For example, if you leave Britain and move here, you no longer get any cost of living increases. Obviously, that doesn't hurt too much at first, but after a few years, it starts to add up, especially with inflation as high as it is.
Australia is another horror story, they will also reduce your pension to the absolute minimum if you are out of the country for more than 6 weeks and under some circumstances cut it off entirely and their airports keep absolute track of who is, and who is not physically in or out of the county.
This does not affect your 7 figure clients, but for working-class people, it means they are stuck in their country of birth.
Britain is particularly odd, it's like those who are in Britain resent or are jealous of those who leave, you can constantly read that in the British media.
To its credit, America has not done anything like that yet with Social Security, or state pensions like Calpers, in fact, they will even deposit your payments in the New York branch of Bangkok Bank if you want. Still, if or when enough Americans start leaving one can expect the US will follow Britain and Australia.
Finally (sorry this is so long) expats make great targets because most of us don't vote. I'm not going to drive 120 miles to the embassy in Bangkok to choose between the two idiots the major political parties are usually offering. There are far fewer expats here now than there were when I came here 17 years ago for the above reasons.
What does Britain do with the pensions if you're abroad?..
As far as I know. The issue I see with Canada is that they are happy to take your tax dollars if you live abroad at the same time denying you all the benefits such as retirement pensions, public supplemented education and universal health care.
You can declare non-resident status in Canada. But you need to cut all ties… so no ownership or property such as houses or cars. Technically you should not have a bank account or credit cards with Canadian banks.
@@Dfgbuiiyyyybb I'm aware that this is the current state of affairs. The point I'm making is that if 1) you choose to keep praying tax for whatever reason. Or 2) the government moves to a citizenship based tax, those outside the borders are paying yet no benefits extend beyond the borders except consular services, as far as I'm aware.

Are you sure you can’t own any properties in Canada if you declare non-residency? I have good friends who have moved to Dubai, declared non-residency in Canada and still owns 5+ properties in Canada. They told me that they pay slightly higher taxes from the rental income as a non-resident but it goes into a “hold” which they get back from the government. I was told where there is significant taxes are the capital gains from selling Canadian properties as a non-resident, if you don’t sell, you’re okay!
The people inventing these tax systems that never allow you to escape are also the first ones to complain about slavery

Canada already has 'Tax Agreements' with other countries, like Perú. You pay in one....you don't pay on that in the other.
For those of us stuck in our countries, we do need to start talking about restructuring ownership to reduce taxes. In the US, we have a lot of options, which is why few Americans were found in the Panama Papers, because the US onshore could even be a tax haven in a way.
What i hear you saying is your country owns you like live stock, they think we are all pigs to be harvested, i gave up working when i saw we were being taxed overall by 87%, my first tax bill after starting a business was £40.000 and i thought where is the incentive im working for them so i bough my house and retired with what i had, working is a waste of time here in the UK
The most important thing that Andrew leaves out in this is the inflation rates in these countries. That’s a big factor you cannot ignore.
You should only pay taxes for the country you are in (or paid from). If you live and work in France, but are American for example, then you should pay the French tax, as the services you receive for the tax are all in France.
Through restructuring my company, I found a way to make as much money as I want as a resident of France, and being an American citizen to not pay ANY taxes in France, except the minimum wage amount that I pay to satisfy my visa requirements in France (on 18K per year, it amounts to about 6K taxes per year), but 6K is worth it to me to be able to live in France.

I keep telling people that we're property of global trade plantations and that the laws against immigration are laws to keep you from leaving the plantations.

I am leaving Canada for the Dominican Republic where my wife is from and even if you have a bank account open in Canada without any money it it is enough for Revenue Canada to consider you as a resident! For a clean break you have to have nothing in Canada and fill out a tax exit form where you will pay an exit tax! I also read the tax treaty Canada has with the Dominican Republic which is reasonable if you want to keep assets in Canada, but that is likely to change with the majority tyrannical Liberal/NDP government
I'm a Canadian tax lawyer and what you've said isn't accurate. The CRA is an administrative body and it may harass you into thinking / admitting you're a resident when you aren't. A judge will laugh the CRA out of court if they tried to make you pay tax solely on the basis of you having a Canadian bank account and no other ties to Canada. ...An exit tax doesn't exist in Canada. You could possibly own property with an unrealized capital gain. When you leave Canada, there will be a deemed disposition as the gain arose when you were a resident and should properly be taxed in Canada.

I’m in the same boat, looking to move to the UK towards the end of this year. You can leave if you agree to be gone for atleast 3 months, not ideal but it is possible.

I’m 42 years old I was born in Guadalajara Mexico and I’m also a naturalized citizen of USA I can to the San Francisco BayArea when I was 12 I’ve been working here in the bay my entire life and the cheapest shittiest house is a million dollars I have the more than the 20 percent down payment but I’m not a fan of paying that much money just for a place to live with my savings I can retire in Guadalajara my dad and family live there and I go over there every year and recently I got the house where I grew up given to me so I’m thinking of retiring soon

Only if you're an Australia tax resident. If you never plan on returning you can close your tax file with the ATO.

The Australian Taxation Office ( ATO ) consider leaving Australia permanently to be a capital gains tax event even if you haven't sold the asset .

The only thing worse than a country's tax laws holding down a citizen is military obligations (for a regime whom you'd rather not lay down your life). Regarding the war in 🇺🇦, not only are male citizens aged 18-60 restricted from fleeing the country, the same applies to dual citizens and any expat married to a Ukranian wife. I've also heard in the news that Germany is mulling reintroducing its military service requirements while Poland keeps tabs on its male citizens in a process akin to the US selective service system. That said, "Go where you're treated best" should also include countries that don't wage endless wars (NATO countries may as well be scratched off the list) or press its citizens & expats in some cases into military service obligations.
That's why I chose Japan as my home. I'm fortunately it's so hard to gain citizenship there.

Finland, Austria, Estonia, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Israel, Turkey, Brazil are all countries that have mandatory conscription for males 18 and over. Length of service varies with each country, but generally lasts 18-24 months. Plus, Israel and Switzerland both have lengthy reserve/training requirements until ages 40-50 in some cases.
USA will most certainly bring back the draft. So will Canada.

Due to a number of wealthy people leaving Norway(Mostly double and triple digits millionaires, the anti-rich movement - also known as the left part of the political spectrum has started voicing up for exit taxes and ways to hinder people from taking their fortunes out of the country. This is not a phenomenon mainly for English-speaking countries, but for other countries which also assimilate the US-UK-Western cultural changes. Nordic countries have some of the highest tax levels in the world, so millionaires and billionaires fleeing to Cantons like Zug and Lugano In Switzerland have provoked the left - which is part and or supporting the current government in Norway. The current government is so insane that they told the seafood industry that we are going to tax you more next year, but how much we will decide 6 months into next year - effectively forcing companies to lay off fish-factory workers as no CEO can by law steer his company into bad financial results. An entire industry that could really help the western world with seafood when we all are facing food shortages is now scaling down or closing shop. People owning these are regular people who have built up their success stories, only to be forced to tap their companies for assets/ pay out dividends in order to pay for wealth taxes. There is literally no better way of getting rid of the top 5-10% of high-net individuals. With the most prominent billionaires gone, now we are seeing double digits millionaires going as well. taxes on dividends will go up to 37%, we have a wealth tax and with the economy losing momentum taxes only go up from here. Sweden has high taxes but much more affordable living. Finland and Denmark also have pretty aggressive taxation. Thank you for all the content you put out.
I’m not even a millionaire and I’m sick of paying wealth tax in my twenties as a reward for being a diligent saver/investor. Safe withdrawl rates for early retirement effectively lose a percentage point!
Without denouncing USA citizenship at least when I'm overseas I don't have to pay property tax and the high cost of living and deal with the lower quality of life in the usa.

@@ghoponit Had a few ideas. Came down to Mexico. The nail that did it was the ability, if needed to return to Canada by car. After the Midterm elections, fly out of Buffalo and scout it out. Once we find a location, return, make final needed adjustments then head to Mexico again by Truck and Trailer. What about yourself?
I don't know where you got your information about British embassies and overseas support, maybe the 1950s? I can assure you from my own experience a British Embassy will only even pick up the phone if someone died or is in jail. If Britain started taxing me while working and living abroad, I'd be throwing my passport through the embassy window before they even send me tax reminder letter.
So if i go to UK for work (more than 3 months) but still receiving money through a locally registered Ltd company in my native country (Caribbean) for online work would I need to pay taxes on the income im making through my Ltd company in the Caribbean?
I seriously doubt any other country could try to enforce the "taxation by citizenship" rule as the US does, not having the capacity of persuasion the US has... because of what you just said, who wouldn't readily burn any passport of any citizenship that would ask that much? (not that the muppets that run the show in EU welfare-states don't have wet dreams about it...)
Because of this, I had long given up acquiring USA and Canada citizenships both.

If people would read and understand the Tax Act in Canada.....The income tax system is based on voluntary compliance because the government knows tax laws are unconstitutional and cannot be enforced. There is no question that voluntary compliance is the cornerstone of Canada's self-assessment taxation system.
Yes , that would be so nice. And then as a result shut down all the tax funded services we have come to expect and live like the first nations people did before there was a government. You know,,,, no roads, no law, no health care, no social services, no justice services, just live off the land and hope other tribes don't invade.

I believe that you have to pay a 25% capital gains tax on RRSPs when you leave, whether or not you cash them in.
The Polish zloty was at 3.72 to one and now it’s at just under 5 and expected to go as high as 6. Same with the Hungarian Forint. It was at 270 not long ago and is now at 440. The world is on sale, leave now when you can

Question: What if a Married couple had one partner give up US citizenship and moved... The other stayed in LT US residence and the other gained citizenship in another country and started transferring money to that country... With partner to later sell US residence and later move to other country?
That's what citizenship does, citizenship is not only unlawfully established but is also entrapment into the duties that define the term civic virtue yet they arrest people for not paying taxes! Interesting!

of course, the plan in motion is to tie those benefits to a digital currency and identity so you will be under their thumb I order to collect (they will control how/where/when you spend it, make requirements to get it, etc)
Sask just dropped their plan but the Feds have their own in the works so if you're 10-15+ years away from retirement you may as well just call CPP an authoritarian tax and forget about it
Have heard they don’t let you have your cpp. If you keep a ghost residence and have it deposited there you will probably get away with it. I am in Canada with US pension and don’t need to file because I don’t make enough.

Dear Dave. Thailand's personal income tax law states that if you live in Thailand for more than 180 days in the fiscal years and take your income earn oversea into the Kingdom, you will be required to file tax on said income. The two conditions must be met
1. Live in Thailand for 180 days or more; and
2. Bring in your income (earn on that year) into the Kingdom.
If one of them is not met, you will not be subject to tax. And PIT is based on the self assessment basis.
You can still use you UK bank account, I dont think that would be any problem but if you live in Thailand, I found that having local bank account would do you more convenience for daily spending. Thailand now use lots of mobile banking, so you would find it best to just have cellphone without u rather than carry wallet.

Are you high? Maintenance of roads and basic infrastructure - especially in canada makes up a large part of the budget. Have you ever built/repaired roads? It costs a ton.

Overseas for 20 yrs...love it. Pay no taxes here rarely pay anything in the US I dont use my retirement account to live on. We use my Social Security and my spouses to live on AND we have 1.5 employees. Except for any forseeable large medical expense we dont need to touch our retirement money and we are 74 and 79. The thing is the men in my husbands family live to late 90s and over 100, all of them, they must be made of steel.

Having dual citizenship may seem like a good idea, but that just means that you have to pay taxes in 2 countries, instead of 1. What about Health Care overseas ? Many places don't offer as good of medical care as the United States...
So Andrew, what if I want to become a Mexican Citizen and then live there only on a part time basis (5 months a year) afterwards. I really need a second passport but cannot afford Citizenship By Investment.
if you are Canadian or American, you don't need anything to stay there up to 6 months. just go and worry about renouncing when this happens.

I think you as an American have to much respect for tax authorities. In Europe people generally don’t care so much as Americans about the IRS. In Germany it’s not so Bad. And the Germans in general love to complain. But don’t take them too seriously. I like to pay taxes when the country where I am living in offers me something in return (but od course I try to avoid as much as possible to pay taxes ).

However, the best resource I have found that explains this morass from an exhaustive study of the actual tax code & how it works in constitutional context is a book called "Income Tax Shattering the Myths" by Dave Champion PhD. Although the subject matter may seem "dry", I can assure you that the book is one that once you pick it up - it's virtually impossible to put it down. Welcome to the 1st day of the rest of your life.

Walk across the border from Saskatchewan or Manitoba get on a bus to Texas get on another bus to Mexico and fly out of Mexico via Air Mexico to another country that will welcome unvaxxed. You can also charter a plane to Texas with some friends on a twin engine with some friends and then fly to Mexico. Just an idea if I was stuck in Canada what I might do. Do your due dilegence.
