- The theme song for Guts, the wandering swordsman that struggles between seeking revenge for his fallen comrades and protecting those close to him.
This is a rather peaceful and longing theme for a character that suffered so much.
When thinking about the structure of this piece, it can be divided into two different sections, A and B, with each having a transition section in them as well.
The A theme is rather simple in terms of harmonic complexity, sustaining over an E major chord for its entirety, but it's this simplicity that makes it so reflective and peaceful. In the original recording, there are strings that are sustained throughout this section. The piano can't sustain notes like strings can, so I repeated playing the sustained notes at the beginning of each measure.
I think what makes this B section so impactful is that it offers some dichotomy after the simplicity of the A section. The emotion from the section I believe represents Guts' longing for Casca.

This song literally embodies the fight against destiny. though our minds can be clouded with anger, regret, sorrow this song inspires those to keep calm and fight the good fight. You played this song beautifully.

I don't think this melody embodies that at all. It is a beutiful one and one of my favorites but it barely resembles Guts' road as a character.

One enduring struggle and strife and I’m going to continue both.
For my own sake.
One day all these feelings things going on in my life will one day feel like a dream. Then when I hear this song it will take me back to those times to remind me how it was and where I came from. The abyss that can be life sometimes.
Well at least for me. That is who it feels. To me. We all see the world thru different eyes 👀. I canould not run a mile in your shoes you could not run a mile in mine. Sort of thing. I’m just saying. Life is hard no life is easy. So keep struggling struggler. 😏🤓🧐

Ye but idk how would they make it if there would be more series of 1997 I think there was time to use this song only in the 1st serie the others would be so dark that they would have to use something else

Beserk to me is more then just an anime. Is a testimony of a man's greatest ideals made into an avenue of entertainment.
And when I first heard this song I was Blown away I didn't dive into this anime sooner as a teenager.
The moment in the 97 anime when Griffith picks up guts from his face and this played I was like this is greatest thing I've ever seen, so to play this on piano so beautifully I broke down in tears at work 🥹

It seems like Guts theme sounds like heavy metal music because he kills demons and apostles everyday in a sadistic manner. But his theme actually sounds like sorrow, struggling, and overcoming the pain from his heart. Susumu Hirasawa (author of Guts theme) clearly understands what Guts went through.

Makes me want a better anime adaptation with the style of the 97 anime and the same music along with new tracks
They could use the 1997 and just add some scenes that are missing and then they could make the rest. But on the other hand I think that the other parts need to be a lot more smooth. I had to see the 3rd movie after seeing the eclipse in 1997 and I like more the old animation but it really needs to be more smooth, I can't imagine if the scene where guts runs from casca because she's crazy and then he rests on the grass how would it look like in 1997 ??

Well I'm not a professional but I play by myself almost for 2 years and I think this is intermediate, I played harder songs a year ago than this. You can definitely do this, just give it a month and you will be capable of playing this, sec month and it's gonna sound nice.
