The hype around this episode was insane, and it's not unearned. There was a huge gap of time between season 2 and 3, so people were chomping at the bit for more. And then the first episode of this season dropped early, so there was another gap. Somewhere in there was a preview for Pickle Rick, not even a fully animated one, and people waaaaaanted it. It actually lives up to the hype too? Like, great action and comedy, and the therapy/Doctor Wong subplot really highlights some great character work.
Right!? The scene of him fighting the rats but it was the story boards and the voices was amazing but nothing beats it when it's fully color, animated and shaded.
Rick and Morty having the episodes that REALLY hit hard on some crazy topics. Like when Rick explains his power and the question of whether therapy would actually help him. Paradoxically the answer is yes because that's the whole point. He has ignored his human feelings of attachment or wants because he views them as irrational due to having infinite daughters when in reality he's just trying to bury the pain of how he feels when he loses one. And the lack of communication from the family because they are all smart enough to know each other without talking. And Dr.Wong really does a good job at pointing that out to someone like Rick when she gave him something to think about in the most simple terms of "you have all the power to literally be anywhere and do anything else right now, most likely in a happier place yet somehow you ended up here in the state that you're in, how did that happen?" to which the answer is because he wasn't honest to himself or his family about the things he wants and doesn't want. And even if he doesn't admit that answer, he respected Dr.Wong a little more because he knows he has a problem and Dr.Wong somehow understood him even though it is super complicated.
I find it interesting that the episode is based on Rick avoiding therapy, but Dan Harmon (co-creator) goes to therapy. Dan is a brilliant individual and I think my aforementioned analysis gives testimony to that.
Yasss Season 3 is still my favorite season. My fave episode is 3x6, can’t wait. The way they do these epic, crazy A storylines for Rick or Morty here or there is brilliant. This Pickle Rick one is too iconic.
This was the only episode I have watch from Rick and Morty and I loved it non stop talk about my high school days and still till this day I haven't gotten to sit down and watch the show, this the only channel I have been watching along with putting the grind
My only critism of this channel is that you always show a really good clip at the beginning, sometimes you show the reaction im here for. Other than that I love being here.
IIRC Dan Harmon has indicated that this episode is a reference to alcoholism. After all, getting pissed is euphemistically referred to as "getring pickled"
She didn't mean work in the literal meaning. She was reffering to the action of engagement; to do something which requires effort even if the task at hand bears no interest to the participant. Basically, work is anything which requires effort and is found "hard" and "displeasing" - different to a job. when a person has a job, their assigned a task(s) to complete, requiring the indavidual of said job to "work" towards the completion of said job. Some people just don't have the strength to try, ignoring anything which requires effort or is "boring". Mental health is especially tricky for types like these, as it requires recognizing ones internal flaws on top of the effort of trying in the first place. rick would rather go on an epic life or death adventure in the sewers than sit in that room - however he still chose life and asked for the syringe.
"Rick really doesn't need anything from anyone. I admire that about him." How to say you fundamentally missed the entire point of a character without saying it
I don’t mean to ask if it offends, but is there a specific reason why you dropped JoJo’s? Could it be because of copyright, or did you just lose interest?
the joke about how she also helps people stop eating their own shit, is about rick. She basically told rick to stop eating his own shit. His problems were his own product, and all he has to do is stop.
I can't remember details, but what I heard was that one of the creators went through a nasty divorce around this time, so Family Councelling, Jerry now being divorced and living on his own, etc is drawn from that experience.
@@Real_Genji Yeh thought so but wasn't sure. I also couldn't remember where I heard it so I didn't wanna sound too sure in case it was just someone starting a rumor.
I really liked the reaction. Can i ask a HUGEEE favor of you though? Please make playlists so i can easily binge watch a certain show that your watching...... Please.....
This episode is in the style of "German Expressionism," but shown in a safe way that skirts around the unfortunate fact that Rick is evil and the audience is stupid for sympathizing with him. And even that is only allowed because it's a cartoon.
Hearing them talk shit about this episode on Chapo Trap House is what cemented for me that they are politically informed and correct and quite funny but socially and culturally pretentious. They openly just dislike things other people like because they think it makes them smarter than everyone else, and the fact that they are actually smart only serves to reinforce that toxic tendency.
Man why are you scamming me? I paid for dons world 2 and the 2nd and 3rd episodes are on TH-cam but not on patreon? It litterally said early and uncut? What thr hell man
