Author of the article here. If you ever wondered, I have the CDC in my WoT garage. Fully kitted out with turbocharger and stuff because gotta love having the highest power to weight ratio in the game out of non-lights. The narrator really did a good job here, and glad to see the article featured here.
Best power to weight, worst ground resistance, even bad among heavies. Additional grouses does wonders for it, or well, it would if the game wasn't a mess, quit ayear ago because with useless HE you can't do anything to higher tiers and heavies anymore, op new tanks come every month... They should have split the CDC to 3 different tanks, 2 CDC destroyers with the big turret but a bit less mobility (52-55 max speed, even slower turret and hull traverse) one with a higher accuracy gun and better penetration, the other worse penetration but the intended autoloader... And the other is CDC medium, with a way smaller turret (no need for it without an autoloader after all), higher turret and hull traverse, 62-64 max speed, same gun... Would probably be a decent set of tanks then, as is it's kind of an abomination, a massive slow traverse turret with NO armor that's only there to fit the ABSENT autoloader, top speed that nearly negates the epic engine power, hull traverse of a snail, bad camo...
Okay, it was funny the first time, but you're not going to call us frogs every time you make a video on a French tank, are you? I can see it getting old quick. Oh, and it's not "de ninety millimeter", it's "de quatre-vingt-dix millimètres". Please get the narrator to try, next time, for the lolz.
In WOT this thing use to be a monster in games flying around at top speed from one side of the map to the other and taking apart heavies like it was a light .... a shame it was decimated with the meta changes
It was probably canceled for the same reasons as many European post-war projects. Reconstruction was costly. Colonial empires became a burden. The Cold War changed the focus of military development. The performance of chemical effect warheads (HEAT, HESH) and the development of guided missile technology created a debate about the future of the gun armed TD. The dawn of the MBT concept meant that the role of tank destroyers would essentially be filled by tanks like the AMX-30 and the Leopard 1.
None of these factors mattered when CDC was designed in 1946. It was one out of many projects going on at the same time and money wasn't lacking for paper studies, missiles and shaped charges were extremely early in their infancy, MBTs didn't exist as a concept, the Cold War had not even really started. This was just a concept that peacefully died out. Most likely the concept was considered simply not really useful. No bigger gun than the planned main tank, not really light and small enough for the gun to be interesting in terms of strategic deployment. After writing this article, I also found a French archive document just after WW2 indicating TDs as a whole were basically obsolete (both turreted and casemated).
I got “killed” by one of those the other day, I don’t see em very often in the game but whoever that was I played against knew how to put it to good use,it’s an interesting design
It seems like this was a lot of interesting Ideas crammed into one and as the old saying goes a team of champions doesn't make a champion team and I think they came to the realisation that this design was not going to work plus a lot of it was war time or pre-war technology. looking at some of the designs that did get built I think the French didn't want a repeat of being caught with obsolete designs which is why they chased some of the more innovative designs add to this that at the end of the war they were as it were at square one as far as tanks went while the brits and the US built on what they had
it was a beast when it first showed up ..... so fast and could climb so well that you could run around the map at full speed and shoot up anyone at any time
Forget armor buff. What would you want to do with that? Give it another 300 mm+ weakspotless turret? I agree with firepower. This thing needs the same gun as an autoloader. Like a watered-down Bourrasque, but with better aim time and more magazine capacity, basically forming the link between the tech tree B-C 12t and the AMX 50 100.
@@hunter_0221 An auto reloader with 3 shots should be enough in my opinion or may be a 4 shots autoloader would be a decent choice too. It will not be underpowered any more and it will not be overpowered like Bourasque or Progetto since you get HEed to death and it is a big target. I meant to buff the armour so people doesn't 3 shot you with HE. The tank is literally unplayable in it's current state.
@@rubberwoody the turret does but where the amx m4 use overlapping roadwheel the lorraine 40t use tire also the lorraine has a more slope on the front and only one crew member in the hull
now i get the point of the tittle is to say its a tank that otherwise would of been forgotten but wot released this tank into the game, it wasnt really all that good when it launched, and then wot forgot it existed which is funny

World of Tanks made this design more widely known...but they also made it a medium tank instead of a tank destroyer for some strange reason.
And yet kept the massive now empty autoloader turret, also severely limited top speed... And made it handle like a train!
It was probably canceled for the same reasons as many European post-war projects.

I think it was cancelled because the French had a virtually unlimited potential supply of Shermans immediately after the war.
A shame, considering it’s an absolute beauty of a vehicle.
Well paced concise oral delivery thanks

Great article by the way.

This tank desperately needs an armor buff or an autoloader/reloader.
