I have 400 different types of hoyas in my greenhouse... In Iran, for $1000, you can buy 150 varieties of hoyas, from common to collectible, for example, the price of a ten-leafed Hoya New Guinea Ghost plant in Iran is $15.
It's not the blooms for me (although they are an added bonus). It's most definitely the leaves. Their thickness, texture, markings and subtle colouring. And the vines!
I love hoya because of the variety of foliage, low maintenance, slow growth, cute looking on a treallis and smaller footprint when you already have too many plants. It's nice that they don't need constant repots, either.
Brilliant! Thank you. I inherited a 70 year old Hoya and a cutting from her is now 23 years old. She is huge, like a bass viol, and she currently has about 10 new tendrils of five feet or so, gearing up for a grand spring, methinks. I made the mistake everyone makes with these plants - I found out that there is a world of Hoyas. Living in a small bachelor pad really is not conducive to collecting. Nine now. It'll be a trellis nightmare soon...💐🥳
I love Hoya for the variety: small leaves, big leaves, veiny, variegated, black margin, sunstress, thick, thin, hairy, velvety, smooth, wrinkled. I don't know another genus that is so diverse
One of my hoyas didn’t do a thing for over a year, but then I cut some of the bare tendrils off and it branched out like crazy and bloomed for the first time. Totally worth it. 🌸
I think why Hoyas are so popular is flowers, but also the foliage. So Hoyas have such beautiful foliage. Many are also forgiving and that also makes them popular. I love Hoyas as well.
OMG YOUR HOYA UNDULATA IS AMAZING WHAT ARE YOU DOING ,SEEMS LIKE ALL YOUR PLANTS ARE JUST SO LUSH ,CURIOUS ABOUT SOIL AND WHAT CONDITIONS AND FEEDING ETC ,AMAZING
I went through the same exact hoya transition! I'm now completely obsessed!!! The main attraction for me is the Jurassic looking types. The tendrils too of course! The blooms are an extra extra bonus💚🥰💚
As the saying goes”There is a fine line between love and hate.” I think most people don’t like like Hoyas because they don’t understand their growing needs. That and the slow growing rate is tough if you aren’t a patient person. They will respond to love and patience. That’s where the satisfaction comes from. Then you become a bonafide Hoya Head!
For me, it’s the ease of care. I have around 50 varieties that don’t need a tent or cabinet, and about 12 of them bloomed this year. I have less trouble with Hoya and they look better than just about any other house plant in my home/climate.
Same! The first time I saw a Hoya, I remember thinking..”there’s hardly any leaves! Then I saw a Hindu Rope and thought “what is wrong with that plant”! Now, a dozen plants later, I’ve finally gone down the rabbit 🐰 hole. 😂
Found you a couple months ago and been catching up on all your vids. I have to say that I REALLY REALLY enjoyed this particular video because you inserted the fun facts throughout. This gives your content a boost of education and value!!! ❤
I have some of the ones you have too 😊 My Sp Aff Burtoniae is on my windowsill and has sun stressed into a variety of lovely colours. I also have my Australis Lisa trellised and the flowers and scent are just gorgeous ☺️ and finally I have the Gunung Gading and the sunlight has sun stressed it into an array of gorgeous colours. They are very addictive 😀 last count I had over 40 🤫
Great video! I especially loved the fun facts; what a nice bonus. 👍 I got a cutting of the super silver krohniana after seeing yours. Mine is still pretty tiny but it's doing it's thing, growing and looking more gorgeous with each new leaf. 😍 Thanks for all the info you provide! You are a wonderful resource for this newish plant mom. Blessings from Oklahoma US. 🤗
When I first got into plants I thought the Hoyas are 'meh' I wanted the compacta Hindu rope in both green and var but that was the only one that really drew me in. I tried to get excited about Hoyas simply because my biggest fear about house plants is my cats eating them. Hoyas being pet friendly and a blooming plant made me want to give them a try. I got a larger hanging basket of a Crimson/Krimson Queen and I watched how quickly it vined and grew and I was hooked! I loved that every leaf never really looked the same. Now I'm upward of close to 30 varieties and I've learned to appreciate the minor differences in the varieties. My Wayettii Var is also a slow grower but the Kentiana Var is faster yet they look so similar. Both grown in the same soil side by side in my cabinet both originally almost identical in size. My Wayettii likes to drop a leaves if I'm too light on the watering, yet will turn any touching soil to mush if I'm too heavy, it's been very finicky despite being in terracotta. The Kentiana Var is going wild and thrives in any watering conditions! It's vining and lush and full, never complains.
I watched one of your video posts today and went out and purchased more Hoya because I watched you display your beautiful plants! It’s been dangerous for me to watch you and Emma! 😊😂
Beautiful lineris...she's on my wish list...took me a minute to decide if I wanted one but seeing how yours have grown in 4 months is sooo awesome...just beautiful❤❤....happy growing
I’ve had Hoyas since the 1980s. When I saw my first plant, a plain green carnosa in bloom, I fell in love. It wasn’t just the flowers, it was everything about the plant - the vines, the scent of the flowers, the thick leaves. I got a cutting from that plant and still have it today. I had up to 80 at some point, but most I do not have anymore. They don’t really age well, cute fresh little plants grow into not so cute huge monsters that require a lot of space and light….I hate to say this, but they become burdens.
I fell in love with Hoya's once I discovered they are available in endless varieties outside of what is commonly find in nurseries. I was intimidated by them at first because they seem so elegant to me and I thought I would kill them. However, once I researched and discovered they are similar to succulents, I knew I could take care of them. I've been collecting them for almost two years and I have around 20. They are unique, beautiful and easy care plants.
I've become a "hoya head" and several of the hoyas you listed are on my "wishlist" as well! I would love to see a total hoya list video. I do say I'm a lil "green" with some of your current hoys. The look amazing!
I love Hoyas. They are extremely difficult to find in my part of the world (Kenya). I currently have 7 different ones in my collection and I am totally obsessed. You have a beautiful collection, thank you for sharing.
Love Hoyas! The last month I’ve been on a hoya binge! Always on the search haha Found a Bilobata but it wasn’t in the greatest condition. Propagated most of it this week and put it in moss. Fingers crossed! I did see that spraying orchid fertilizer on the leaves helps and have personally noticed awesome growth doing that.
Just bought my first Hoya a krimson queen. I am going to be huge trouble. It’s their dainty vining loveliness. The wide variety of type and colors. The collectibility, much easier to collect these in a home environment than my philodendrons are! Their ease of care and the blooms are huge bonuses. Mostly it’s your videos!! The videos got me and I had to join you. 😂
Hello! I'm a Foliage lover. Hoyas leaves are so unique. If I get one flower to bloom fine but, I don't want sap and ants either! I love your update. Your hoyas are healthy and beautiful. I want that undulata! The one thing fascinating is one Hoya grower will swear by orchid mix, another soil, another leca and another moss. I've tried them all including fluval stratum and find leca to work best because it doesn't attract mealy bugs, fungus gnats or root rot. So out of 60 (still counting) 98% in leca. Thanks for sharing! Dee, New York USA
Wow! I’m so impressed by how much your plants have grown in those four months! Love that undulata red! I didn’t know the splotches were purple, added to my wish list 😊
Best Hoya video ever! You have a beautiful collection and I love seeing updates on your plants. 🥰. Greatly appreciate all the information you added throughout the video. I would love to see you make a Hoya Wishlist video. I’ve had Hoyas throughout the years and I find them to be both beautiful and forgiving. For the most part they are easy to grow and care for. I like both large and small leaf Hoyas, prehistoric and wonky looking Hoyas. They’re all good to me! Exceptionally great job on this video! Thank you. 👌🪴🥰👏
Great video Claire!! I understand the obsession. It started with cuttings from my mom's plant, krimson princess, she didn't even know what plant it was, and now I have 100+.
My favorite part about Hoyas is honestly how easy care they are. Their water requirements are exactly what I give to my plants so they are always usually happy with the me. The variety is outstanding as well. Not only the variety of leaves and textures but also the ways they can grow, trellis, trailing, hanging, climbing, mounted, you name it. Another thing, which some people might think I’m crazy for saying, is their energy. In my experience Hoyas tend to have a cutesy, quirky, happy energy about them. So once you get one with that type of energy how can you not be any more of it around when they have so many options they offer haha
My favourite things about hoyas are their pet-friendliness and *scent.* The beauty of the leaves, blooms and habit cerainly make hoyas all-around very desirable.
I inherited my mother's 60+ year old Hoya Carnosa. As far as I remember, it has only bloomed once or maybe twice. I have her in a west facing window and she is doing well. I have had her 3 months. I see a few new leaves forming. I am DYING to find some peduncles, but so far, just leaves. Since I got her, I have acquired a Krimson Princess, a Pulicaylix Hawaiian Purple and a small Compacta. I think I have developed an addiction!
This is the first video of your I have ever seen and I subscribed in less than 10 seconds because I have said that collecting Hoyas are like pokemon so many times!!! (And I have never played) when I found out there are 900+ varieties I almost died. Loved the video you have a new follower❤️❤️❤️
Hi, Claire. Thanks for the video as I have just purchased Hoya Curtisii and Sigillatas. for my flat and I do have a Humidifier to and extre moisture into the air. I appreciate your videos very good. Take Care. Ian.
Really enjoyed your Hoya video, Claire! Your Sarawak is my favourite of your hoyas and am interested to see updates each installment. Fun that it flowered for you. Loved the Hoya tips! My H. Wayetii green is my s l o w e s t growing Hoya. Also, I find it hard to propagate but the variegated one which I bought under name kentiana is much easier. Go figure.... My Krinkle 8 just finished blooming and my Retusa give me those cute individual blooms every autumn.
I love hoyas. They are so easy care and they let you know when they need to be watered. They don’t need to be watered very often. it works for me especially because I have a lot of things going on. Its one of the plants that has survived my care 😂
My dad had a giant hoya while I was growing up. It was absolutely ginormous and beautiful. Well, it got pests, and he threw it away. He didn't even take cuttings. My heart broke. I was so sad. I would have taken it and learned how to rehab it. It took a few years to talk myself into trying my hand at them myself, and ever since, I've been on a mission to buy my own.
I have a big Rosita, well, they don't get very big, but it is stunning; there are these dainty, cute little clusters of flowers. ! You will love it soon!
I used to absolutely HATE Hoyas, but then someone gave me a cutting and I want them ALL now! 😂 I just bought a cutting of Wilbur Graves because that was my top wishlist Hoya. It’s not arrived yet, but I’m more excited than I should be lol. And definitely do the full Hoya wishlist video so I can add more to mine. 🥲
@thejunglehaven Hi Claire! Do you have your hoyas in leca or pon? If yes, are you adding the nutrient solution to their pot to have them constantly with some at the reservoir? Love your channel! 😀
I enjoyed this video so much! I could talk Hoya all day! I have a rosita and it’s my favorite but it’s fuller and I think that helps me love it! Also the Sarawak is beautiful, ever since you’ve shown it to us, I’ve looked for it.. it’s still beautiful although stagnant. One day it will surprise you!
For me is that they stay relatively small :))) You don't need half a room to have mature blooming beautiful hoya. Aroids are tough in that sense. Also they don't mind trailing, which is another space-saving feature. Try trailing any monstera, runners for days :)
I'm wondering with your undulata red if you let the new little leaf grow out and then snip that off with the vine, you may be able to propagate and trellis that part of the plant successfully and keep the compact growth of the mother plant as well. And if you don't end up liking the trellised one's growth pattern at some point you could sell/swap it.
Both macrophylla and Sarawak are latifolia due to their flowers. The variegated Bella varieties are named Lida Buiz and Anneke Buiz after the daughters of the Buiz greenhouse.
hoya gunung gading gets the read leafs from sun stress . if you keep it in lower light it will stay green. im aroung 99% sure . thats on my wishlist also
yeap this is true, mine wasn't getting any redness and I moved right below the strong grow light I have and its all burgundy now, the bottom leaf is still green because its on the shade of the new growth its a gorgeous plant!
I had been looking for a hoya years ago 15 plus and there was hardly any about when I looked and they were pretty expensive. I like the fact they are so different and they are so odd which I like. I do love the blooms but I only pick the ones I have for the leaves I love my carnosa the bog standard one. Its one of my 2 favourite plants. I like the odd growth patterns and how the leaves come in tiny its so cute
I was given a hoya cutting .... I don't know what it's officially named, but it is curly! So pretty! In the past I've tried to water propagate a very thick leaf, dark green but it was 1 year before I saw any roots. So when I scored the curly cutting, I used coco peat and rooting hormone. Within a few weeks I had roots galore 😂 yay
I love growth update videos like this 🥹I just started collecting houseplants 3 months ago and I already own more than 20 hoyas lol they’re so addictive. None of them are blooming rn, but the foliage is what gets me. I LOVE touching them! They have all kinds of stuff textures even fuzzy ones! Btw normally when sellers put a color at the end of the hoya name, it refers to the colour of their flowers. However, a lot of asian export sellers sell “red” versions of hoyas to get more money, it’s just the sun stressed version of their green plants.
I love my Hoyas for the most part they are very easy care which is the best part😊 Watch out for the Hoya bella because omg they are spider mites magnet 😩 ❤
I'm enjoying your explanations and affection for hoya varieties from Seoul~ Do you use a circulator inside the cabinet? You mentioned the heat and light but didn't talk about the ventilation. It gets quite cold in winter in Seoul so it is the most difficult season to keep my plants alive. I've recently developed the love for hoyas so I'm learning quite a lot from your channel. Thanks for the valuable information and showing all the exotic, magnificent, sometimes weird hoyas~~ 🍃🍃🍃
For me, it's totally about the blooms. Not just with hoya, I generally love plants that bloom. My Macrophylla also randomly stopped growing for months. Now it is starting a new growth point. I'm assuming, because the sun has shown himself for a bit lately. Any change in your Sarawak yet? 👀
I love your channel! But yes the "sarawak" looks like a type of latafolia because sarawak has bubbly round leaves, and the point turns under vs. out or flat with latafolias. ❤
Oh no!!! Don’t cut tendrils, blooms on the tendrils. The older your wayettii gets, it will really take off and cascade. My Sarawak grows like crazy in high humidity. And about cutting back blooms, you’re cutting off the penduncles, they will bloom again on those same peduncles for years . Your Bella is amazing, I’ve always had issues with them! So jealous … Variegated Bella is on my wish list!!!! Rosita is slow grower but once it gets going, it will take off like the wayettii. Just some fyi’s from an long time Hoya grower. Love your videos!!
The Wilbur Graves is my one and only plant splurge. Make sure you get the Russia if you get one. The China looks different. I'm dying to get a Super Silver Krohniana. I love the silvery blue hoyas too!! I'd love to see a video on your Hoya wishlist plants!
Would love to know if you’ve looked at your Hoyas for the flat mites/top-shoot mites everyone is talking about!! Would love a video of that from you :)
Nice collection. Liked the fact pop ups. I guess I’m you a couple years ago, I don’t get the Hoya love. Just don’t do it for me, but then I’m alocasia, aroid and carnivorous obsessed.
I just found your channel last night and am trying to catch up with at least a few of the episodes. However, I am continuously distracted by the repeated mention of tendril/s. Hoyas don't have tendrils. Many have twining stems and that is what the plants use to push themselves into the canopy. Tendrils are separate organs that emanate from the stems, often coiled or grappling. 6:02 that depends on the species involved. Some species, particularly from higher elevations with higher annual rainfall require more water than those from low altitudes with long dry periods. 8:10 species names are not capitalized. Thus 'Hoya burtoniae'.
Hoya wishlist video would be great! Check out the Hoya New Guinea Ghost, Hoya Heuschkeliana and the Hoya Loyceandrewsiana! The NGG and Heuschkeliana are SO beautiful and such fast growers. Extremely satisfying, lol. I just got the Loyceandrewsiana so I don't know how fast she grows but she's absolutely beautiful. I have been in love with your sarawak so I was so happy to find this! Your Hoya collection is wonderful ✨️ Thank you for sharing!
I love my hoyas, they’re some of my favorite plants. I really love the tiny cute ones like Mathilde and curtsii. 🥰 Ngl, I kinda struggled with some of them, I think just due to their humidity needs. They may not need much water, but some of them don’t like it when the air is too dry. So the last 3 cuttings I’ve gotten I’ve just left in water (adding food now and then). I’ve found that hoyas really flourish this way for me! Although I’m very jealous of your Burtonaie’s growth!! My cutting did nothing for like 6 months and now it’s finally giving me some actual new leaves lol.
OH and hearing that a variegated compacta went for $6000 had my jaw dropping!! 😱 But I also kinda get it, that’s been another extremely slow grower for me. I have a feeling it’s gonna be YEARS before I even think about propping that guy. 😂
I absolutely love the "did you know" sections. What a great idea. I love videos that are interesting and educational. Well done!
I did too- They're all named after something but you can't tell what off the bat sometimes.
Me, too. Well, I also love love love the way the vines grow.

Sjoh am addicted your plants are amazing🥰🥰🥰your knowledge superb you are a true plant lover
Thank you so much this was extremly informative . Now I'm even more in love with Hoya's!❤
I mostly use Moss too when propagating. Incredible to work with and works for many many plants
Oh my gosh, new fan here! Love your gorgeous doggie AND I'm obsessed with Hoya.
Love the Hoyas aswell 👍
💚☘️🌱🌵
Would love a hoya wishlist video!
I think the size is definitely a plus for me, too. As much as I love the indoor jungle look, big plants aren’t always the most practical lol.
My Rosita is sun stressed in Miami. It is just beautiful and blooming all year long. I wish I could show you a picture of it.
love the blue of your sweater
Oh boy,, your videos are going to make my wish list get much longer!!
Both macrophylla and Sarawak are latifolia due to their flowers. The variegated Bella varieties are named Lida Buiz and Anneke Buiz after the daughters of the Buiz greenhouse.
hoya gunung gading gets the read leafs from sun stress . if you keep it in lower light it will stay green. im aroung 99% sure . thats on my wishlist also
yeap this is true, mine wasn't getting any redness and I moved right below the strong grow light I have and its all burgundy now, the bottom leaf is still green because its on the shade of the new growth its a gorgeous plant!
oh no why did I click 😂 I only have to hear the word Hoya and I'm searching for more! can't wait to watch yay xx
Loved this informative video! I adore my Hoya’s🪴
My hoya Australis is on a round/circle trellis and it love it! Where I live most of the shops sell it with a trellis actually
I had been looking for a hoya years ago 15 plus and there was hardly any about when I looked and they were pretty expensive.
I like the fact they are so different and they are so odd which I like. I do love the blooms but I only pick the ones I have for the leaves
I love my carnosa the bog standard one.
Hi, all the close ups were so good!
I just found your channel and I love it! I have 15 Hoya now and I love them🪴💚🪴 Beautiful collection!
Thank you! 💚
I love my Hoyas for the most part they are very easy care which is the best part😊 Watch out for the Hoya bella because omg they are spider mites magnet 😩 ❤
I swear everytime I watch your videos, my wishlist gets longer🤣. Now I am adding the hoya undulata red to the mix
Beautiful collection ❤
Yes! To all of your Hoya choices! Thank you for sharing
I'm enjoying your explanations and affection for hoya varieties from Seoul~
Do you use a circulator inside the cabinet? You mentioned the heat and light but didn't talk about the ventilation.
It gets quite cold in winter in Seoul so it is the most difficult season to keep my plants alive.
I've recently developed the love for hoyas so I'm learning quite a lot from your channel. Thanks for the valuable information
and showing all the exotic, magnificent, sometimes weird hoyas~~ 🍃🍃🍃
Where do you get your cute rope baskets? So adorable 🥰
Also , what do you feed your Hoyas ? The foliage is huge!
I love the facts between plants
I am glad to see I am not the only one that has gone from disinterest to addiction. We can start a hoya anonymous group
The Wilbur Graves is my one and only plant splurge. Make sure you get the Russia if you get one. The China looks different.
I'm dying to get a Super Silver Krohniana. I love the silvery blue hoyas too!!
I'd love to see a video on your Hoya wishlist plants!
One more thing, Claire, would you consider a “craft” video on how you make your beautiful pots and hangers? They are so pretty. Inspirational. 🪴🪴🪴
Hey Emma - I've made some vids on this already but I'll 100% make more! 💚
I found them! Thank you so much. Love your channel. Would love to hear you on Jane Perrone’s On The Ledge xxx
Wow, your Hoyas are really beautiful. I wish mine would grow as much as yours. 😍😍😍😍
I've got a dischidia watermelon and it's gorgouse as a full plant just like a hoya. I'd love a sarowack x
