Seeded canola into a half section of longtime alfalfa a few years ago. Lighter sandier soil. Didn’t rain. Crop ran 11bu/ac. Crop insurance situation. All the canola fit on two super B’s picked up to Clavet. $25.98/bu. Ended up being our best money making field that year because our avg. was quite a bit higher than 11bu/ac

I had an uncle from Regina by marriage tell of the thirties when it waa so dry it got to the point where some didnt even plant. He said they planted that one last time when others didnt and they hit a crop. So just keep trying. Hope you haveca long term lease on the ground as you say it will take several years to get the land into top shape. Praying for timely rains for your operation. I hope your crop is so bountiful i have to fly all the way from philippines where i am currently homecaring wife with dementia. We planted flax into virgin grass once in South Dakota with a Wilrich air seeder small points not ideal seeding but got a good crop. Our biggest probkem was killing the grass. Took couple spray attempts but finally succeeded.

I would like to try spraying the grass out in late June, then haying it. Should be able to seed directly the next spring. Of course still need moisture to mellow out the soil, but the grass lumps should be degraded. And not an option to plan that far ahead when renting.

3:15 That seems like a great job for Ny-lok nuts which need a low torque tool or, better yet, hand tightening with a cheap nut driver. Ny-loks work but you can't install them with impact drivers or the friction of spinning in that fast will melt the nylon insert before it seats and you've wasted a dollar by turning it into a ten-cent regular nut. You already know that a regular nut is failing you and costing you time plus lost assemblies that drop randomly on the field.
