helpful advice from a Japanese language student. The easiest way to pronounce 80% of japanese words is to understand two things: that they have only five vowel sounds: a ( ah - as in car) e ( eh - as in bet) i ( ee - pronounced like tree) o ( oh - as in code) and u ( oo - pronounced like food) the second thing is that you say every vowel sound in a word, even the ones on the end. For example, your ruler (before he had to commit sepuku) was mochimune, which would be pronounced moh-chee-mu-neh. another example would be uesugi which instead of oosugi is pronounced oo-eh-soo-gee.
that second part of pronouncing every vowel isnt really true. Things like desu, you dont pronounce the last u, and many vowels are shortened to the point of not really saying them.
its mostly true, only with a few words, like desu, is the vowel silent (or wispered) even then, if you actually say the u in desu its not that you are pronouncing it wrong, its just a bit unnatural.
Please look into Fort Mechanics. The besieging army is always considered to be the aggressor and therefore they get the terrain penalties. If you own a fort, or even just occupy one, you will always be considered the defender in that province even if you show up to the fight second.
Weirdly enough in my daimyo run my ruler was never forced to commit seppuku even though I was rather warmongering. I believe the shogun can only force this on vassals with less than 50% liberty desire, so keeping that high might've done it.
So, what we have here is having the entire Shogun 2 Total War game, WITHIN another game, and have it still be just a tiny part of the wider whole? SOLD!!!
DUDE!!! How did I not notice this!? I've always been curious about Asia in this game, also Native America. I hope they'll do something with them soon so I can watch you play it. c:
Guys, thumbs this up because it is an important comment to help Pravus, Playing Asia gets very hard because of the tech penalties, so do not, by any chance take any colonists, you need a European country to colonize there, cause you'll get very cheeky institution spreads :D You can kill them in the final years(5 neighbouring provinces should be enough for a fast spread :D)
Chinese yes. But when china says so who dares to defy them? I mean if you are a giant empire and you say that your formed it because the heavens picked you it's rather hard to deny. At least given the time period.
If you listen to what he says at the start he was going to take over China. While yes Japan does NOT believe in the Mandate of Heaven he's well versed in his history. If Japan say did follow it the point of what he's doing would seem more believable of a thing to do. Granted Japan has tried to invade in that general direction it wasn't for any reasons associated to the Mandate of Heaven. That was just the goal he had set.
You could've taken Musashi&Kozuke (74WS(45+29)) it was only the gold holding you back in war score :< Looking forward to the series. Think it was a mistake to pick good produced since it affects a lot of things to reduce your income vs 1.83 ducats.
Will you colonize in this campaign? I've heard you can get colonialism to start in japan if you get exploration first and are lucky. Really looking forward to this campaign!
Japanese uses pure vowels. And you pronounce each vowel and sound individually. Unlike English, sounds don't change even when they are next to other vowels or sounds. It's actually really easy to pronounce everything once you know their equivalent of the alphabet.
Hey Pravus could you possibly make it so you play more than one series of Eu4 per DLC? I didn't mean to sound sassy or sarcastic, I just really love watching your videos more than other people and sometimes when it gets to the super late game I kinda lose interest, but either way keep up the good work I love your videos!
an easy way to say Japanese words is to pay the closest attention to each letter and that the words most likely are not pronounced like the english way also seppuku is when dishonored men get a chance to gain honor through a honorable suicide in which a man will take a blade and cut himself with it if I'm not mistake
One tip when it comes to pronouncing Japanese words is that each vowel will make the same sound so for example "a" is always pronounced as "ah". "e" is "ey" "i" is "ee" "o" is "oh" "u" is pronounced as the "u" in "true"
Do you have an EU4 tutorial on your channel or do you know others good channels witch some tutorials ? It's been a while since I wanted to know about the mechanics of this game that seems very complicated but I'm finally prepared.
My question is very basic. Please answer. On every province screen there is a button for base tax base production and base manpower. When I click these buttons would you explain the implications of this to me?
Since I asked this question on Banished video but since EU video is out I'll ask it here. Paradox has a sale on right now so I was thinking of getting EU 4 and some DLC. I'm just wondering which DLCs I should get? Should I get all of the main expansions? Should I get all of the content packs?
Personally I got them all, you could look trough them and see where you play and if they are in that region/care for the overall mechanics and such. The content packs are units/music/flags and stuff so unless you want the cosmetics you don't have to buy them and be afraid you lose out on gameplay content. And don't forget the 2 free DLC a music pack and unit pack because why not right? :D
Rotimi Johnson If you're a beginner its one heck of a complicated ride bro. Its either you give up or strive to experience more about this game. Theres lots of things you have to learn and you need patience to do so.
I'm not up to where he mistakenly mentions a Japanese Emperor yet, but technically there were still emperors during the periods of the shogunate. They just had no real power.

alesterryku isn't "harakiri" honorable suicide?
it is. Harakiri, and Seppuku are the same thing

its mostly true, only with a few words, like desu, is the vowel silent (or wispered) even then, if you actually say the u in desu its not that you are pronouncing it wrong, its just a bit unnatural.
I would've taken a different o-example instead of code. the o in code is a diphthong. the oo from door would be a better example, I think.
Warning: Sudoku will be heavily involved within Japanese politics, beware of the puzzles.

Let’s rewatch it once again, why not
Yesss! :) I have been waiting too long for this. Thanks for the idea, I might try a Japanese playthrough with Date in the future.
I just started playing Europa again and I'm playing as the Date too because of their ideas
Please look into Fort Mechanics. The besieging army is always considered to be the aggressor and therefore they get the terrain penalties. If you own a fort, or even just occupy one, you will always be considered the defender in that province even if you show up to the fight second.
Tyler Clark Thanks. I already told him in the Ethiopian run...he seems to ignore this fact
Tyler Clark i
Same, I guess its hard when he bulk records. Not that I mind that, I love the quantity and regularity of his recording schedule.
He reads comments and replies to some of them. But there are so many comments and some may elude him.
My dog is gay, he did coming out
I love how cheerful you are! Without pretending :)
Are you ready to have 150% tech penalty? *this_poor_guy*
I am so pumped about this series, what an opening move! :D
finally i have been waiting for this video so long. Thanks Pravus
Omg I love you pravus I love you so much love all your content and especially EU4 and plaque inc
Your pronunciation of Date is good! Thanks for making an effort to get it right
great stuff! exciting to watch!
Its Date not Date
Very helpful.
Its Date But you pronounce the A
kevin Bollinger
Dah-te, not Dayt, I think you mean.
YES! YES! YESSSS! THANK THE LORD EU4 IS BACK, IT'S BEEN TOO LONG
I like this ideal. There are helpful to all people to guide .

Your "Date" pronunciation is on friggin point.
I'm so used to playing Common Sense that a lot of this is SO new, like creating a spy network instead of fabricating claim.
Wow that was fast Pravus is now one of the most strongest clan in Japan
yes i love these EU4 campaigns. really think want to buy the game.
Supposedly if I was playing this game and I was talking to myself out loud, the AI will gain consciousness.
YESS!! thank pruvus i thought you will play as Ming or Mongolia
The Onin war I believe is an all nation event and not just someone declaring war
Wasn't it the Chinese who believed in the Mandate of Heaven?
Yes, but the update revolves around East Asia, so they named the Expansion that. The actual update is named after Ming.
Chinese yes.
But when china says so who dares to defy them? I mean if you are a giant empire and you say that your formed it because the heavens picked you it's rather hard to deny. At least given the time period.
The Japanese believed in an entirely different philosophy and were never invaded by any Chinese dynasty fyi.
They never believed in the mandate for their own emperor yes.
But i can't say that they didn't believe such for the chinese emperor.
If you listen to what he says at the start he was going to take over China. While yes Japan does NOT believe in the Mandate of Heaven he's well versed in his history. Long live the Date! The one eyed dragon will rule the world!!!
I love playing as Chiba and blob out from the area near to modern day Tokyo.
:3
Never knew you play EU4. Neat.
really looking forward to the timelapse for this one

This is whar got me into eu4
i wasn't aware that daimyos now can form coalitions. i started with hosokawa and after only 2 wars a coalitions formed and declared on me -.-
Oh, we're about to have fine times with coalitions. You'll see.
i gotta rethink my strategy instead of smashing everyone with hosokawa like always :D
Still my favorite series
I love this campaign it’s the 5-6th time I rewatch it
Hey Pravus could you possibly make it so you play more than one series of Eu4 per DLC? Maybe you wanted a challenge, or there's something I'm missing, but as far as the strongest daimyo pick; wouldn't it make sense to play as the Shogun?
Date sure is a popular nation to play as...
AND WE'RE BACK BOYS

really good start if you dont get any nasty events due to the low stability
Holy crap. Now I wont be over 50 vids behind like in the Ethiopian campaign !
One tip when it comes to pronouncing Japanese words is that each vowel will make the same sound so for example "a" is always pronounced as "ah".
"e" is "ey"
"i" is "ee"

Will you make an alliance with Ethiopia or a vassal.
But... but Pravus i din't finish watching Ethiopia campgain!

I'd say the expansions are worth it, they add a lot of content. The cosmetic content packs aren't a high priority.
I was in china for two weeks :p
time to catch up on some EU4 XD
we demand more videos AHHHHHHHHHHHH
Think of sepeku as being spelled se-poo-coup
Also,taking kyoto makes you emperor
Sepuku is pronounced SE-poo-coo(capital means stress)
it is more stressed on the "p" sound, pausing on the double pp in seppuku.
seP Puku, as the word in japanese is a compound kanji 切腹(せつ+ぷく)
oh boy here I go again
Didn't you once said that you're partly German? Do you understand it a little?
Unfortunately, no. I'm primarily German and Dutch by ancestry, but don't speak the language.
Prav, don't forget banners in this playthrough, they will be OP
is this with the mandate dlc or just the update?
With the DLC. You can see the DLC's icon in the country selection next to the date widget.
Golladan thanks, do you happen to also know what other mods or dlcs he's using?
William T no mods, all other dlc but sabaton soundtrack because sabaton is third party and not approved for youtube.
mana is mom in greek and its the rude version of mom
