  • Installed Dupli-Color spray can painted black items. I was surprised by the results because I've never done this before! My 1964 CB160 looks pretty good if I don't say so myself.

I am about to begin a restoration of my grandfathers '65 CB160. He bought it new in '65 and rode it off and on for 25 years. Around 1990, he parked it in his garage and it had only been ridden 5x since 1990. Most recently I took it for a ride in 2005. He has passed away this year and I know that he would love it to be restored to showroom

Veevum, I also wanted a CB160 the first time I saw in on the back of Cycle World December, 1964. I purchased this 1964 on ebay June, 2009 and have been working on it ever since. It has become a labor of love because it takes be back to a special time in my life, like most baby boomer who grew up in the 60's Japanese motorcycles and Honda in particular were of this generation!

Ray, I too treasure this machine, at that time I didn't have any money and had received my draft notice from uncle Sam. Promise myself I would some day own one. Had many bikes since 1966, retirement in 2008 I decided I would make that 42 year old dream a reality.....😊

You know Honda made really beautiful bikes back in those days.
Superb design and build quality. Performance was second to none.
    And so reliable.
I owned a CB92 for many years and the grew into bigger bikes, all British and loved them. But now when I look back. The little Honda was my favourite ❤️

Tom, after installing the back pressure bafflers on the mufflers it provided this deeper note. Most young people back in the day would remove the bafflers for extra noise, but in reality Honda included them for a reason. Thank you for your response.

So very well done. CB160s are my favorite Honda twin and I owned two of them, one exactly like yours and I used it to commute 35 miles one way to my work in Westchester Co., N.Y. Sold it with over 24k miles, still original, smoked very little only at start up.

Hey, I know what you mean. I've had many motorcycles in my day, but the Honda CB160 was the first machine I fell in love with. After retirement, I decided to locate a CB160 and return it to what I remember all those years ago.

@lucky51762 Lucky, when I was sixteen I wanted this bike so bad and thought one day I would have one. Well it took 45+ years to get a CB160 and I so enjoyed bring it back to what I remember it looked like new. Not a show bike but a rider and I do ride it every chance I get, plus when I am rolling down the rode I am sixteen once again. ;-)

John, I join the USAF the same year you left the Navy! That spring I purchased a new Honda Sport 50 because I didn't have the money for the CB160, July 21, 1966 I left for basic training. Since that time I've own many motorcycles but never forgot about how much I wanted a CB160. Finally purchased this on on ebay June, 2009 after I retired, this project has given me a great deal of joy as well as taking me back to those wonderful times during those teenage years!

Looks almost new😜 Brilliant bikes from Japan back in the 60’s/70’s. Only wish they would remake a few, ‘relive the Dream’ perhaps, using 21st C tech etc. They’d sell like hot cakes and remind bikers how good they really were!!!!

I owned lots of bikes in the 1960s used to thrash the living daylights out of them and end up blowing them up mostly !! I owned a Hondas CB72, great bike. Wish I owned it now and also many of the other ones I owned, these old bikes cost a fortune now in UK.

@oaky132x Great info! I had the top end rebuilt after purchasing because as always the bike had set for many years and right piston had seized. Robert Colee performed this service which included new standard pistons, wrist pens, rings, timing chain and timing chain tension assembly. Valves were okay after inspection, your information is really good data to have, I change oil every 1,000 miles and inspect the centrifugal oil filter every second oil change. The filter does a great job!

I agree on the price of these antique japanese bikes today! I purchased my first bike May,1966 which was a new Honda Sport 50 (C-110) for a grand total of $285 US dallors! Today that same bike restored can cost you between $1,000 to $ 3,500 US dallors, at that rate antique Honda are a better investment then the stock market. I purchase the CB160 on ebay June, 2009 and it has been a labor of love, it was the bike I wanted when I purchase the Sport 50 but didn't have the funds for CB160 back then.

@passat47 On the right side of the head cover, the most right rear head nut is a acorn nut instead of a normal nut. start the bike and loosen that acorn nut, oil should come flowing out from around the threads of the cylinder stud. If it's barely weeping out, you should check your oil filter/screen for a clog. The oil pump system rarely fails, so it's usually the filter, or the oil is old and too thick. Good luck, nice bike!!!

Old british bikes like 1950s 350cc B31 that used to cost from about £10 second hand in mid 1960s now £3500 upwards, crazy ! The CB160 was a lovely little bike, rare in UK at the time. People went more for the 50cc, 90 cc 125cc and 250cc models.
Honda S90 was a great little bike, £145 new in Uk at the time, now good one can cost £5000. Whole old bike market has gone crazy here, especially the old british bikes, which to be honest were not that good. unreliable, Leaked oil, bad electrics etc.

Brown ElCamino , You can restore your machine if you have any mechanical abilities. My CB-160 was the first time at this and I must say it was a lot of fun. If your 1969 CA77 has a good engine you are well on your way! Cosmetics is a matter of taking your time and doing your best on the fine details, also us ebay for sourcing parts. I used Dupli-Color automotive spray can acrylic enamel for my paint job, once again make sure you do the best you can on prep work and make sure and use a good automotive primer for best results. When I was 17 ( 1964 ) the Honda CB-160 was introduce and I wanted one so bad, but at that time I didn't have the funds or my parents OK. After retirement I decide I was going to get the machine I wanted all those years ago and my dreams finally came true! Good luck on your adventure.....

Once completed I dialed in the year "June 15, 1964" and out pop this black, silver and chrome beauty. :-) That year I turned 16 and the Honda CB160 (Baby Super Hawk) was the only thing I truly desired but could not have. Well after 50 years I finally have the thing I most wanted as a teenager all those many years ago. If you are interested I have additional photo's on flicka under the id name of SimbaYancy.
