I made a one piece mask yesterday instead of two pieces and having a seam at my nose, and it turned out sooooo good, because it actually fit the inner lining better. Don't know how or why but that is how I am going to make my masks from now on. thank you for your great tutorial and patterns! :)

I really like the sound of your voice and very clear explanations. I’m not sure about the fit of this mask though. I’d like it tighter on my face. Also wonder about glasses fogging. Other masks show the glasses sitting ON the mask to prevent fogging. I’m not sure that is very successful either. :-)
Thank you! When it’s your own voice it’s so hard to listen to! So in terms of fogging...I wear glasses occasionally when I take my contacts out, I usually tuck the tip of the mask under my glasses but I get a little bit of fogging. I would put a metal nose piece in to give yourself a secure fit to avoid fogging if you wear glasses regularly

Would you be so kind as to explain to me how did you make the pleats? Where they rather darts or what. I'm new to sewing so I don't have a clue. Also how many pleats and how apart you sewed them. In case she doesn’t see your comment, she most likely did something called a “box pleat” in the center at the bottom of the mask. I don’t have a box pleat mask yet, but I’m sure other channels have them!

Turns out I tried inserting a coffee filter filter (Edit: like you advised me) that I made using one of your smaller size patterns and once in place your mask fit me perfectly around the chin! I would not look anywhere else because your masks are by far the best I have found in TH-cam and believe me I have seen hundreds of tutorials. You certainly are a very skilled profesional and I thank you for the interest you put in helping me out.
Best fitting mask I have come across. No fogged up glasses. I used the medium size for myself, Cut it the size of the pocket one, but didn't use any filter. Nose wire slips in and out with ease so you can wash the mask.
I get my mask fabrics mostly from Etsy - the only vendor I didn’t care for was spoonflower, I thought the quality was not great and they are over priced. Joann fabrics also has custom prints which is where I got the frenchie fabric in my apron video!

Hello there, Thanks for this clear and helpful video and patterns, you have incorporated all the issues I need. However, I found the large pattern tapered a bit too much at the edge to cover the top rough seams when the elastic casings were folded over? Have you found this a problem before or is it me?

I would add layer of interfacing - that will stop the bunching. I tend to not use interfacing because it makes it a bit harder to breathe through but I also have asthma and I’m a bit sensitive to breathing through masks.
I think it does, but I do wear glasses from time to time and they do fog without the nose piece. I just find the nose piece very uncomfortable so I don't put one it but I think its personal preference!
I like the way this mask looks. I’ve been trying to recreate store bought fabric masks with messy results, but I prefer the elastic to be fixed in place with little rubber adjusters. How can I alter this pattern to fit my needs?
If you want to fix the elastic in place you could feed it through the casing on the side, pull as tight as you would like then stitch the elastic in place so it doesn’t move. I also have a video on attaching the rubber adjusters and there is a link in the description to the ones I like!
This one is good for glasses if you insert a nose wire, or you can check out my newest mask video on a 3D mask which I think is a very good version for people who wear glasses (I wear glasses too but I wear my contacts for recording so there is no reflection from the lighting!!)

This is an awesome tutorial! I'm wondering if the nose wire will last with multiple washings of the mask, or if they should be sewn in place. I'm a glasses wearer and I need a mask that will not fog up my glasses. I also sell masks and don't want the nose wire coming off.
Yes sewing it in place is not a bad idea. I have noticed with the nose wire as well that if you consistently unfold and fold the nose wire, like adjusting it over and over they do eventually break in half. It’s easier to swap out if it’s not sewn in place.
@@MeghanGraceDIY Thank you! I hadn't thought about the nose wire breaking and having to replace it. This makes sense. I'm also wondering about the sizing. I downloaded all of the patterns and it seems that there is a bit of a difference between small and medium, but the large is quite different (for both the adult and child masks). Do you have approximate sizing guides for these?
So here is how the sizing has worked for me so far - the adult medium fits the average adult. If the person is more petite I go down to the small, if they seem to have a larger face then average I go up to the large. Kids on the other hand are a bit tougher since they vary so much in size no matter what age. I use the child small for kids under 5 and kids above 5 I go for the medium. I have some friends with 7 year old kids who fit in the child small and my nephew gets an adult small because he’s 12. With kids it’s a bit of trial and error, but I strongly recommend getting the elastic adjusters for kids so they can adjust the elastic to what is comfortable. If I know anything it’s that the mask is not staying on if it isn’t comfortable!!

I made medium for my husband and it fits him perfectly, but I had to make a minor adjustment for mine. My daughter is petite so I went with a small for her (not sure how it fits yet but I think it will be perfect). I decided to try the child medium and am just waiting for the elastic adjusters to be delivered tomorrow. I have made close to 200 pleated masks but this one is far more comfortable than any of them! Your tutorials are great and I've subscribed to your channel so I don't miss any more of them! Thanks again!
For kids I usually do 9-10 and then add the elastic adjusters on each side so they can be adjusted and the child won’t be annoyed with the mask being too tight or too loose.
Just curious thats a nice mask but do you have or could you design a sort of extra large mask that would fit for a guy like me with a beard I havent been able to find a mask that covers my face well because of my beard searching and searching amazon and nothing please help
@@MeghanGraceDIY No just something that would actually cover my big face say for instance a mask that about 7.5 inch to 8 inch tall so it just fit snug to my face and the fact that i have a beard
Ok so check out my adult large pattern A it’s pretty big. Then add to it what ever you need to I order for it to be the measurements you mentioned. Remember I incorporate seam allowance, so as 1/2 in the whatever your final measurement will be!
Each pattern has a line with a measurement next to it - you want to measure that line when you print it out and make sure the measurement is correct. I placed the patterns on 8.5 by 11 pieces of paper, so you should be able to print to actual size and get the correct measurement
Hmm so you could use a sticky nose wire and just flip the mask inside out to stick it to the inside. If it’s not sticky, you would need to sew a channel along the top of the mask and sew closed each end of the nose wire then reopen one end when you want to swap it out. I hope that helps!
I would start with an adult medium unless you are definitely on the petite side. Most adults fit well with the adult medium. If you already know you are quite petite, I would drop down to the adult small.
It’s super tough to give an age to each side. For example, I made a set for my friends three kids and I used the child med for her 3 year old and a child large for her 7 year old son and the smaller mask for both her kids perfectly. And then I’m making some for my 11 yo nephew who is the size of a man 18 so I’m going to go with an adult small and hope that works! My suggestion is once you pick your size, get the elastic adjusters for the elastic loops. If you tighten up the elastic loops that can usually help if the fabric of the mask is a bit too big. I hope this helps!!
I wish there were patterns out there without the vertical stitiching line all the way from top to botton in the centre. Not only are they bulky but you run the risk of airborn droplets finding the holes in the fabric from the needle. The ones where part of the centre is cut on the fold with only a dart to fit around the chin area are best. If you could redesign this pattern in a similar manner then this would be my choice for one of the top designs, but I won't wear anything where the entire centre seam is sewn.
There are patterns in that style, I’d recommend checking out my pleated pattern video. That has no seams in the middle. I personally like the seam in the middles because I feel like it gives me a better shape around my nose and under my eyes. Unfortunately there isn’t a TON of research out there as to what is the beat option besides the fact that handkerchiefs and gaiters don’t do anything. I’ve also seen the birthday candle test, if you can blow a birthday candle out through the mask, you probably don’t have enough protection.

You could if you scrunch the sides to where you like them, then stitch the holes of the casing closed on each end

I would go with 8, provided it’s for you or someone you know you could always make it smaller

It should print out actual size. I include a real measurement on the pattern so when it prints you can check it and make sure it printed properly.

Yea just use a non woven material like a coffee filter and cut it to fit. At this point you can probably order then easily on Amazon at this point!
This is an awesome tutorial! I'm wondering if the nose wire will last with multiple washings of the mask, or if they should be sewn in place. I'm a glasses wearer and I need a mask that will not fog up my glasses. I also sell masks and don't want the nose wire coming off.
Yes sewing it in place is not a bad idea. I have noticed with the nose wire as well that if you consistently unfold and fold the nose wire, like adjusting it over and over they do eventually break in half. It’s easier to swap out if it’s not sewn in place.
@@MeghanGraceDIY Thank you! I hadn't thought about the nose wire breaking and having to replace it. This makes sense. I'm also wondering about the sizing. I downloaded all of the patterns and it seems that there is a bit of a difference between small and medium, but the large is quite different (for both the adult and child masks). Do you have approximate sizing guides for these?
So here is how the sizing has worked for me so far - the adult medium fits the average adult. If the person is more petite I go down to the small, if they seem to have a larger face then average I go up to the large. Kids on the other hand are a bit tougher since they vary so much in size no matter what age. I use the child small for kids under 5 and kids above 5 I go for the medium. I have some friends with 7 year old kids who fit in the child small and my nephew gets an adult small because he’s 12. With kids it’s a bit of trial and error, but I strongly recommend getting the elastic adjusters for kids so they can adjust the elastic to what is comfortable. If I know anything it’s that the mask is not staying on if it isn’t comfortable!!
@@MeghanGraceDIY Thank you again for being so responsive! I have made 4 adult masks and am just finishing up my first medium child size. I made medium for my husband and it fits him perfectly, but I had to make a minor adjustment for mine. My daughter is petite so I went with a small for her (not sure how it fits yet but I think it will be perfect). I decided to try the child medium and am just waiting for the elastic adjusters to be delivered tomorrow. I have made close to 200 pleated masks but this one is far more comfortable than any of them! Your tutorials are great and I've subscribed to your channel so I don't miss any more of them! Thanks again!

Hello, your "supplies for this tutorial" say fabric 8"x16". In the video, at 1:08 you say we need 8" square. Is that 8"x16" then folded to 8" square?
Yes exactly! That way you get both sides of the mask.

What size is the elastic for the small children is it 7 inches also
For kids I usually do 9-10 and then add the elastic adjusters on each side so they can be adjusted and the child won’t be annoyed with the mask being too tight or too loose.
Just curious thats a nice mask but do you have or could you design a sort of extra large mask that would fit for a guy like me with a beard I havent been able to find a mask that covers my face well because of my beard searching and searching amazon and nothing please help
I have a size large but nothing specifically for a bears. Are you looking for something you can place the beard inside? You’ve got me thinking...

Ok so check out my adult large pattern A it’s pretty big. Then add to it what ever you need to I order for it to be the measurements you mentioned. Remember I incorporate seam allowance, so as 1/2 in the whatever your final measurement will be!

How do I decide which mask template to download? Am I large or medium?
Most adults are a medium, I would start there and if it feels too small, go up to the large.
What scale do we print 100 percent??
Each pattern has a line with a measurement next to it - you want to measure that line when you print it out and make sure the measurement is correct. I placed the patterns on 8.5 by 11 pieces of paper, so you should be able to print to actual size and get the correct measurement
How can I make sure of the scaling on the patterns?
There is a line with a measurement on each pattern, when you print the pattern out measure that line to make sure it matches

Meghan, if I wanted add a removable nose wire...How would I do that?
Hmm so you could use a sticky nose wire and just flip the mask inside out to stick it to the inside. If it’s not sticky, you would need to sew a channel along the top of the mask and sew closed each end of the nose wire then reopen one end when you want to swap it out. I hope that helps!

My best advice would be make a mock up in the large and then cut back where it’s too big and then tada! You’ve got a personalized pattern!

How do I know which size fits me?
I would start with an adult medium unless you are definitely on the petite side. Most adults fit well with the adult medium. If you already know you are quite petite, I would drop down to the adult small.

Hi. What are the approximate ages/age range for each of the child sizes (S,M & L)?
It’s super tough to give an age to each side. For example, I made a set for my friends three kids and I used the child med for her 3 year old and a child large for her 7 year old son and the smaller mask for both her kids perfectly. And then I’m making some for my 11 yo nephew who is the size of a man 18 so I’m going to go with an adult small and hope that works! My suggestion is once you pick your size, get the elastic adjusters for the elastic loops. If you tighten up the elastic loops that can usually help if the fabric of the mask is a bit too big. I hope this helps!!
I wish there were patterns out there without the vertical stitiching line all the way from top to botton in the centre. Not only are they bulky but you run the risk of airborn droplets finding the holes in the fabric from the needle. The ones where part of the centre is cut on the fold with only a dart to fit around the chin area are best. If you could redesign this pattern in a similar manner then this would be my choice for one of the top designs, but I won't wear anything where the entire centre seam is sewn.
There are patterns in that style, I’d recommend checking out my pleated pattern video. That has no seams in the middle. I personally like the seam in the middles because I feel like it gives me a better shape around my nose and under my eyes. Unfortunately there isn’t a TON of research out there as to what is the beat option besides the fact that handkerchiefs and gaiters don’t do anything. I’ve also seen the birthday candle test, if you can blow a birthday candle out through the mask, you probably don’t have enough protection.
It shows up as a blank piece of paper when I try to print it, what am I doing wrong?
