Plague covers the more esoteric lore that is too nuanced for VaatiVidya to suss out and decode such as; "Feeding Farts to Skeletons for 50 souls." Which is simply invaluable.
im sure someone has mentioned it. but yeah, the "ieto jutsu" would increase the strength and speed of the swing, because it has the "full" force of your arm strength behind it when it leaves the scabbard, whereas a normal swing doesnt due to how muscles work. i couldnt see it being more than like 30% faster/stronger, certainly not lighting fast, but thats probably just poetic "flavor". dunno if there are machines that use that, it wouldnt make sense because it would put a ton of unneeded stress on the parts, and im pretty sure thats not how hydraulic, electric, or any of type of mechanized power. similarly, the above head swing would add some very minor strength, due to how potential->kinetic energy works (aka gravity, aka what makes roller coasters work without having to keep draggin the carts up the hills) that said it would only really have impact on heavy weapons, like a greataxe/greatsword, and the amount of time and effort required to lift it cleanly up in a combat situation would be pointless. everytime i watch this series i mean to comment, but never do; half because im lazy, half because im never sure if youre trollololololololing. either way, i still love you, hoore.
Iaijutsu and battojutsu both work around the concept of that flashy "unsheathe, hit, sheathe in the same motion" thing samurai movies do. I don't know the distinction between the two, though.
The mantis shrimp is capable of punching extremely fast/hard (relatively speaking mind), because it can lock its arm in place to build up force before actually punching. So the theory of the sword technique is sound, but if the practice of it actually works is hard to say. The sheathe would have to solidly resist your draw force in order to get an appreciable build up, but if it's not solidly locked it'll just at best add a little bit of built up force to the draw. The actual draw would be faster if the technique works, but as an overall action it's slower than just swinging an already drawn blade or just plain quickly draw-slashing normally. Either way, an attack where you sit there and build up force is a very circumstantial one, and liable to get you stabbed since you've also dropped your guard in order to perform it. As to gravity and 'greataxes' and similar weapons, their real life equivalents aren't much heavier than other weapons at all. Usually two to three pounds heavier at most, and in general a weapon is already only one to two pounds. Mainly this is because sharpness isn't a real aspect of physics, it's all just concentrated force in a small area impacting against a larger area, and you would need to allow the weapon to 'fall' long enough to build up an appreciable amount of momentum. Even something like a coin can be dangerous if allowed to reach terminal velocity, but an overhead swing arc is nowhere near a large enough distance to allow for that. Basically though, momentum just doesn't need to have a lot of weight in order to deliver a lot of force, and usually blades aren't even as thin as a coin is. You can touch and handle the edge of most blades just fine, even grip it with your bare hands and swing it around, because it's the action of the edge moving into or across something that causes it to cut. Also, if a sword being drawn from a sheathe makes that 'shwing' sound, it's because the blade is grinding against the inside of the sheathe. Which is what the technique in question tries to do on purpose. Grinding your blade against the inside of your sheathe will RUIN your sword. Not instantly wrecked beyond use, but doing that with any sort of frequency is a bad, bad idea for the same reason that you don't overuse a grinding stone when sharpening some dull blades back up. It'll make the edge more fragile. Plus, particularly thin blades are already very fragile and prone to chipping or other problems, which is an issue that's already true of things like pig iron (see: katanas). Not to mention, it won't be as evenly ground as proper use of a grinding stone, and that's a whole other host of issues.
Here's the thing, those moves were invented AFTER the Sengoku Jidai (I don't know the English translation but it's a big war between warlords) ended. When Sengoku Jidai happened you don't have a chance to sheathe your sword back because there's a lot of enemies to fight with and most troops are lined up to be more efficient. So spear troops will be lined up to deter charging enemies and sword only pulled out when things get a bit chaotic. The Iaito stuff only happened during peace when people actually fighting one on one more often.
46:15 WELLL.... if you think about it all dragons are supposed to be big ass moving statues made of suspiciously stone like material. the only exception to these rules are drakes and the otherwise corrupted dragons that get that way by staying in whatever variation on putrid shithole it lairs in that makes them look all fleshy. so i suppose the better question is if the abyss did that to those dogs and kalamet, does the abyss just not effect stone giants and plant people?
I forgot how fun this lp was. Not just crazy lore theory for 2 hours standing in the same place. Side note never got around to finishing chewie and fuckfaces lp till the other day when I dropped acid and put it in the back ground. I can't believe I never knew till now how bad that lp got.

The kind of personality that only occurs in Kentucky. I can attest to that!

Plague is like the Shakespeare of lps; both place dirty jokes for us simple and humble peasants.
"Just jam your hands in there and wiggle it around till you find some jewels" I lost it.
That indignation in his voice, "Don't Tell us about it, put it away." gets me every time.
>Implying this isn't just plague's default sense of humor.
When in doubt, time is convoluted
I can't believe how much effort he put into the LP, and how much effort you put into the compilation. Thanks, to you and Plague!
maybe its a crocodile
He actually goes more and more insane as playthrough progresses
god i miss this lp so much, im remembering such good memories watching this. plague is a really fun guy

in three years, once Plague finishes his second playthrough, we are going to get a sequel~~!
My favorite is when Lautrec starts laughing and plague starts laughing harder
Mines is when he talks about dead babies. Don't know why it's funny from him
55 minutes of the best of Plague is the only video TH-cam needs, really
He got mad annoying in the intervening years
This playthrough is endlessly quotable. So many batshit crazy and funny lines. A true memeist lost treasure
Butts and farts, butts and farts, there really funny cause there butts and farts.
