When I was in kindergarten almost 50 years ago, there were quite a number of indian boys and girls in the class and most of them speak cantonese just like their mother's tongue with mannerism like the local Hong Kong kid. Some of the them were shy but some were very outspoken. Great friends.Missed them all.
I'm a Chinese American. and my wife is Indian. I'd say the 2 cultures mesh pretty well together. Many ppl think we look strange together. but as the previous person said its not racism but ignorance. living a a country where race is such a big issue, its good to know that in some countries, mixing of different cultures are more accepted. we need to step back sometimes and see that although everyone is differnt culturally, people remain the same and should be able to get along peacefully.
All prejudice comes from ignorance. Speaking the language well is a way to reduce prejudice. 36% of doctors in the USA are of Indian decent. 34% of Microsoft employees are Indians. (Time magazine Feb 3, 2014). I an a HK born Chinese.
Not as bad as how Indians treat those from Northeast India who look Chinese. They are often discriminated against by other Indians. Recently, one was beaten to death in public because he looked different (Chinese).
indian and asians have alot in common like worship what their own hands created and love money so much that I'm not sure if it's close to worshipping $$$
haha even indians in malaysia they mix with chinese-cantonese speakers a lot they can speak cantonese very well and if you send them to chinese school they're even better
@pug201010 I have philippino friends. I find them nice and helpful.I am vietnamese myself and i have never been to hongkong. But I know it is a beautiful and lovely city where there are lots of pakistanis and indians working there as well. I think that indians also have lower minds too. I know lots of people from china who hate viets.
@CattleBruiser2008, dude, China and India has been neighbors from 3 to 4 thousand years, and the first time they have a war was a short skirmish in early 1960s. So you tell me whether the Chinese and Indian gets alone or not, lol!
Exactly if you speak english, or mandarin or cantonese or hoiping or toisan in that village you will be treated as one of them, just like if you speak hindi vs tamil vs ..... Or tagalog vs cebuano or ilokano, or bahasa or javanese sundanese, vivek cool, i have many brown indian and south asian close friends. I suppose for hong kong and india have english in common?
For sure Vivek's father is not my kindergarten schoolmate in Hong Kong.He was I guess about the same age as his father.Great friend of mine in those but sadly we lost contact for so long.
Jeff Chen Some do. When I was in kindergarten back in the mid 1960's in Hong Kong I have Indian classmate who spoke accent free cantonese and even their mannerism is 1005 like the local , some are more comfortable in speaking English but I have not come across Hindi speaking Indian at that time.Indians have a very long history in Hong Kong.
