Nice one Mark, . I bought the Specular Tempus after watching your video. GFI sure make some great sounding stuff. Hats off to Henry and the GFI team on another great pedal. I'll need to start saving..
They're all so powerful. I'd really be interested in hearing from someone who has dived into both (Meris and GFI) about the UI and which is easier to interact with.
ive got the MercX and just bought the GFI SV and played with it a bit. The GFI feels really snappy compared, does USB C the RIGHT way, and editing on device is really slick. it’s gonna be my delay engine though, so keeping the MercX for reverb mainly. I do prefer the GFI UX a bit more, but you have less control than Meris. both are sick
Amazing pedal and amazing video! This is truly a worthy successor for the Specular Tempus. Simple once the UI is understood, yet insanely powerful when needed. Love the parallel routing. Saves some space on the board!
I love the GFI desktop menu, its honestly so easy to use. I find my self always connected and tuning sounds. The price of this is pretty good considering everything you get. I just sold my BigSky mx and got this. This sounds so incredible.
That intro! Man, Mark, your composing has always been fantastic, but it feels like your range, breadth of ideas, and production just keeps getting bigger, as you figure out how to show of the bast of these pedals. And of course, your usual stellar job at explaining complex pedals. Thank you!
Thank you Mark. You are the reverb and delay go-to. This is an incredible box of ambience. You almost pulled me in with your Big Sky MX review, but I’m glad I held off.
Man! I love my Specular Tempus, and recently just purchased a DM-101 in an attempt to dethrone my Timeline since i mainly use the Analog algorithm on it, but i know i will miss having the options of the Timeline. The Solis Ventus could be my solution to keeping the reverb algorithms of the Specular Tempus and the analog delays of the DM-101 with the addition of retaining multi delay modes and a looper on my board without having to take up the real estate of all 3 big box pedals. Its definitely on my list now. Great job GFI!
After you have this a while, I think we need to hear a video where you use 15 of your favorite presets and do a playthrough / quick explainer of each. So many capabilities, but hearing some stuff that has been dialed in for your rig would be cool.
I know TH-camrs put a lot of effort into songs, but yours are truly something special. I so often skip others, but with yours, they’re a guaranteed listen. This piece is so so good. The demo as good as always!
The whole dsp architecture actually changed and the algorithms are completely rewritten and improved in complexity on a way stronger plattform - but yes, the og ST is still awesome and depending on the context you might not notice the difference.
@@markjohnstonofficial Definitely. Honestly don’t think I need something as powerful as the Solis Ventus but it’s on my list for when (if) I get my annual bonus
I have a Source Audio Collider which I really love, I am curious about this since it has more features but the Collider has tons I haven't going into yet.
Any info available on how the looper responds to midi/bpm input? Does it operate independently of the bpm being received or can you hit record and it will start on next measure type of action?
How is this for just regular / classic reverb and delay sounds without using a midi switcher? I want to cover the regular sounds as that's 90% of what I need but am intrigued to have the ability to go deep into the ambient and looping as well out of a compact format.
Excellent plate, spring, hall modes and super flexible digital, analog, and tape delays. I would say this does the normal stuff as well as it does anything else.
@ that’s very true. It sounds so good that I’m considering getting it. I was going to get the timeline but this is incredible. It’s everything I wish my source audio collider was.
Because this does a lot more. If you don’t need to the dual engine stuff and all the other new things than def just get an ST but this is still a huge update.
Yes. Another video features it with synths and I believe line level compatibility was stated in another. Specular Tempus does, so I would expect the same.
@ how about Doppler though? There is no shimmer but the pitch of the reverb drops with adjustable speed. To put the Specular Tempus in the Doppler mode, you must use the toggle within the app. Not accessible on the pedal itself. Save a preset with it though and you’re all set! 👌🏻
No can do... Not a bad pedal, but it's like going backwards to the Moorer Oceans pedal from where we are with better separate delay and reveb pedals now... No way in hell is Mark keeping this on his board... That's all you need to know... 💥
See this I want one . I love my strymon timeline , theis like that but million miles ahead mix bid sky timeline mix in two with options so much more This pedal got one knock timeline bigsky out water . Strymon got new updates pedal next gen in bigsky . But this pedal two in one knock it out of park . Just yesterday I but gurus echosex t7e s/h cost around same price . That amzing simply eazy one at time sound but that better reveb in my way is different more 3D sound warm tube . If add other pedal . Get some cool sound I will use one my two Jackson ampworks atlantic ×newcastle. I thinking I will get this one for new setup Pedalboard 40" by 18" Pedalboard case with gigrig g2 two bluguitar mercury 1 use this one for wet/ dry /stereo Solution. It's use my timeline in this new situation as front in delay old school ir use other ? . This one am Definitely get it now what to sell 🤔.
Looks like a gimmicky disaster of a product. Non-working touch strip with a cheesy “thermometer” color scheme? No thanks. It sounds good, but not good enough to put up with that.
bought it w/o even hearing it. the Specular Tempus is such an awesome pedal and this just adds more to the mix.
literally same
Same
I'll potentially -do the same- buy one at some point. Love my fantastic sounding Specular Tempus.
I can not imagine how much time and effort went into this-thank you.
Nice one Mark, .
I bought the Specular Tempus after watching your video. GFI sure make some great sounding stuff.
Hats off to Henry and the GFI team on another great pedal.
I'll need to start saving..
I have both an LVX and MercuryX so not planning to replace them anytime soon but I am always here for a 90-minute Mark Johnston video 🙏
They're all so powerful. I'd really be interested in hearing from someone who has dived into both (Meris and GFI) about the UI and which is easier to interact with.

Great vid BTW. Super clean and sparse sound source so you can actually hear the details of the effects. Nice walkthrough as well. Thanks!

Ordered it yesterday, this is what I've always wanted. Tweakable 70s plate? Spillover? Looper? I'm sold.
70s plate is my all time favorite

Amazing intro bro only 2 mins in and love it, great channel and amazing work dude
11:43 same thing with Duophony, you’re not supposed to touch the light strips, but the actual sensors below the light strips.
Thank you for the 3 buttons to bank up and down! Much needed to at least change presets back and forward
Sounds exactly like my tempus. Only tempus has 4 more reverbs. I think lol. Anyway to similar to change. Thanks for the demo.
The whole dsp architecture actually changed and the algorithms are completely rewritten and improved in complexity on a way stronger plattform - but yes, the og ST is still awesome and depending on the context you might not notice the difference.
I really like my Specular Tempus. Not sure if I’m going to spring for this but it’s definitely awesome
Spec Temp is *still* excellent.
@@markjohnstonofficial Definitely. Honestly don’t think I need something as powerful as the Solis Ventus but it’s on my list for when (if) I get my annual bonus
Don’t bother. To similar. I’ll keep mine.
That shimmer sound at 57:40 is so pretty 😍 (I usually dislike shimmer verbs’ harshness)
just got mine in the mail today. gonna be a fun weekend 😅
I have GFI Synesthesia. GFI makes great effects
I have that too, struggling to love it but not giving up on it. I think maybe I need a midi controller to really unlock it
Very interested in your recording hardware as well! Would love to see demos on that too
Hot off the back of a useful vid on how to temper your gas , how can do this Mark😂🤟🏽
Still think the Ventris does most of this and sounds magnificent
I have a Source Audio Collider which I really love, I am curious about this since it has more features but the Collider has tons I haven't going into yet.
What is the maximum delay time for digital delay?
Seems great and quite well priced at £499 in the UK. However I have an H90 and CXM1978 on my board already so I'm well covered but well done GFI
Any info available on how the looper responds to midi/bpm input? Does it operate independently of the bpm being received or can you hit record and it will start on next measure type of action?
Can the looper be synced to midi clock, like from a daw or is it a freerunning model like on the LVX?
would you say this is the best reverb (/delay) pedal on the market?
How is this for just regular / classic reverb and delay sounds without using a midi switcher? I want to cover the regular sounds as that's 90% of what I need but am intrigued to have the ability to go deep into the ambient and looping as well out of a compact format.
Excellent plate, spring, hall modes and super flexible digital, analog, and tape delays. I would say this does the normal stuff as well as it does anything else.
Man…. I really wish this was a triple engine device. Two for delays and one for reverb.
lol
How do you think this compared to Source Audio Ventris?
I hear lots of clicking when changing the algorithms during the ambient looping at the end of the video.
Sounds amazing. I just have a feeling ide be tweaking settings instead of playing guitar. lol. Although, it’s still very tempting.
Well the positive (or negative depending on your perspective) side of that is that they just dont give you that many knobs.
@ that’s very true. It sounds so good that I’m considering getting it. I was going to get the timeline but this is incredible. It’s everything I wish my source audio collider was.
why should I buy this when I could get a tempus + foot switch for cheap?
Because this does a lot more. If you don’t need to the dual engine stuff and all the other new things than def just get an ST but this is still a huge update.
No infinity algorithm? Hmmm
Here's my clean tone
Does it do line level?
Yes. Another video features it with synths and I believe line level compatibility was stated in another. Specular Tempus does, so I would expect the same.
@ thanx
😯❤
No anti-shimmer Reverb? No Doppler Reverb? Doppler is one of the best on the Specular Tempus!
The anti-shimmer is integrated in the shimmer reverb selectable in the parameter section
@ how about Doppler though? There is no shimmer but the pitch of the reverb drops with adjustable speed. To put the Specular Tempus in the Doppler mode, you must use the toggle within the app. Not accessible on the pedal itself. Save a preset with it though and you’re all set! 👌🏻
I was just looking at this on their site yesterday and wondering if you had a video.
To be fair I was supposed to have a video yesterday haha

A musician’s final thoughts should be of Ohio.
That would result in tears…
@ you are the true short King
@@alexdenton6586 😂 no excuses for height here, nor for pointing out the obvious…
600 euros and a lackluster touchscreen control is a bit of a miss in my book. Watching you slide your finger and nothing happening was embarrassing.
Looks like a gimmicky disaster of a product. Non-working touch strip with a cheesy “thermometer” color scheme? No thanks. It sounds good, but not good enough to put up with that.
Not gimmicky at all. Touch sensitive area is not where the light strip is. It’s below the light strip.
