    Olive oil will cause rot in time, I know alot of people don't think so but it may look nice and ok at first but after time your clients will notice mold and rot.

      that is 100% false. ANY leather will rot or mold if not taken care of or stored properly, no matter what oil or finish is used. Olive oil has been used for since the 1800's by cowboys on their gear. It does NOT cause rot or mold on the products. please stop spreading false info.

    Would extra Virgin Olive-oil be OK to use or would that be a no no? I`m only asking because the only Olive Oil I have in ,is Extra Virgin Olive Oil .So just asking .Oh! and if your dying the belt do you put the dye on first, or the Olive oil on first then dye.?.Same with the Resolene ,do I put that on top the Olive Oil ?Not sure Cos I`ve never used Olive Oil before.

    Can you apply oil on dried acrylic paint?

    • @orion7741
      @orion7741 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can apply oil over acrylic paint, but the oil will not saturate into the leather and there are chances of softening the paint. It is best to oil and let dry, then do your painting and staining, then seal it.

      In my experience oil and acrylic don't mix.. I've tried cutting acrylic with water.. oil may penetrate better after it's cut down and dried but.. I would test it out first.

    I`m really reluctant to put Olive oil on my belts because I read on the Net , and I quote the passage, ......" Although leather does indeed become a little suppler after applying olive oil, this instant gratification comes with a price. Olive oil, and every oily substance for that matter, will not “nourish” your leather, but actually accelerate its deterioration. "
    So I guess you can see how confused I am to use it .

      (It rots) because it’s (food) and it will turn rancid and moldy! So yeah , not the best! Just because it’s a “old method” don’t mean it’s the best!
      Like using synthetic oil in your car verses regular oil… These days, synthetic is a no brainer!
