    Same exact situation with MLB-player wood bats versus their "pro models" in stores. Marucci/Louisville/Victus/Old Hickory all do it. Great vid BGK!

    • @JAvellino669
      @JAvellino669 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The weight of the bats is a huge sign of that! I bought 3 Louisville Slugger Prime M110s in 33/30, and they were 2 ounces off from each other! The lightest was 29.5 oz, heaviest was 31.5! That's a drop 3.5 vs a drop 1.5 from the same order! You can bet that doesn't happen to that extent with actual pro bats. There will be variations, but not that much.

    • @Nosebleedsandunderdogs

      Literally everything sold in stores is different from what they wear on field. From hats, uniform, equipment, etc etc.

      @@JAvellino669If you want a real deal professional quality wood bat check out Sambat "the original maple bat company."
      They specialize in making nothing but wood bats... and they dont pay players to swing there bats!
      From what Ive observed over the years it seems many pros will go to Sambat to work with them to create a custom spec'd bat for themselves (maybe swing it for a season or two, maybe even gather some hitting awards) then take it to a brand that will pay them to swing a bat and says make me this bat shape... Sambat has an impressive list of players that have swung there bats over the years, unfortunately almost all of them eventually choose to swing the paying brands instead.
      Sambat has a great custom bat maker program on there website. and compared to some of the other "pro-grade" bats out there Sambat bats are actually priced reasonably well imo.

    I have a Rawlings HOH PRO202-6JB (Jim Edmonds style from his Cardinals days) that I bought in 2003. 20yrs of good use and care, it’s showing some age but still going strong. The main area of wear is inside at the heel of the hand. Otherwise it’s holding up strong from years of baseball and slow pitch softball.

    Glad you made the distinction about Pro-Stiff gloves from 44 at the end. My boys have all pro stiff models except for one of their gloves from 44 and you can tell the difference in that one glove from the others.

    simple answer, fans overthink pro player equipment. Jorge Mateo could play shortstop at a high level in any glove, no matter thee leather, brand, or colour, just as long as he breaks it in and its the right size, he can use it

    There's A LOT of variables not considered. Such as laces, and length. Bigger gloves will generally be a bit more flimsy in comparison to a smaller glove of the same material. Laces are huge, color specifically. Colored laces tend to be softer and don't provide as much structure as natural colored laces. Quality laces can make "low quality" gloves feel so much better. The insides are important but not more important than the leather. The insides are subjective. Do you like a thin glove, the japanese market would contend that the glove you think is high quality is too rigid.

    • @ballgloveking
      @ballgloveking  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nah. While yes gloves in Japan are typically thinner + lighter. They are overall high quality. In no way do I think thick = quality. A glove must be tough enough to not get bullied by the ball while also being as light and thin as possible to make it high quality. Thick and thin often comes down to preference but the actual lack of consistency in inserts from the same brand is my problem.

    • @TessNMM
      @TessNMM ปีที่แล้ว

      @ballgloveking you're comparing two different models from 44, from different years. I have 3 mizuno pro limiteds, none of them have the same inserts, let alone a mizuno pro. Entirely different. There are mizuno pro limiteds with awesome quality, and craftsmanship; also weak/non-existent inserts. You need to compare apples to apple, there were far too many variables.

    You for sure know more about gloves than most (myself included). However, when I watched the receiving part of the video, I can’t help but notice on the 44 that “slips” off your hand the thumb and pinky loop laces are not tied whilst the others are. Loose loops equals less scoops 😂. Maybe the difference is negligible but aren’t these two loops there to help secure the glove on your hand?

    • @ballgloveking

      Great point lol, I should have commented on that. But it’s tight fitting when they are untied. So pretty insignificant!

    i think the web design makes a difference between the gloves snapping back or not....the "Y" shaped pocket of the 44 is way stiffer than the other glove with the "H" web in it....I use a Vinci with the lace webbing and have no problems with the glove slipping off but I also have the strap sinched down tightly

    44 Pro Stiff is definitely the way to go. I have ordered two 44s over the past 2.5 years and tried pretty differently builds.
    First one I just went Standard Stiffness but did add a Kip palm liner, had dual welting as well, K-Web.
    Second one I went Pro Stiffness, sheepskin palm liner, and the spiral I-web which I am a huge fan of.
    Pro stiff feels much better put together and for me, just feels better in my hand. Breaking it in was a bit longer but not by much.
    I stick with pretty basic colors as well. Blonde and Black laces on first one, black and Oiled Chestnut with tan laces on second one. I also feel like the less CRAZY colors you get, the better quality leather/laces you end up with on 44s. Small color accents the better.

    I work in the golf industry and until about a decade ago it was the same story there. Stock shafts aren't all the same weights even if they say they are. And the clubs aren't built to the same specs throughout a set either. Not surprised it's the same way with baseball gloves. I would assume wood bats have the same story.

    Great vid about an important issue in glove manufacturing. Regarding 44 Pro, I think they need to add a third series to their lineup (like other companies have done already). They can call it the "Professional Series." Reserve the best leathers for this series (kind of like A2K is the best leather Wilson offers), add extra quality control checks, and make kip palm liners standard. Charge $249 for this and market it for college level and above. The Classic series could be marketed for youth/dad gloves, and the Signature series could be marketed for youth through college. I think a lot of people would buy into the idea that you are paying more for a better product; at least I would.

The actual jereeys that they wear look like the retail “authentic” but are thicker and more durable they’re made in Canada

    On your 44 Pro “Wifey” glove (nice gift by the way)- I’m Not looking to attack your credibility or expertise, but rather offer an objective opinion on other possible variables that could be bringing your undesirable outcome. Therefore, I will submit the following to challenge your position on its Quality, and the signs you’re suggesting that it’s of lesser. 1. It is a longer glove, appearing to be 12.5”, 12.75” or possibly 13”(likely not), and immediately creates a potentially longer moment arm from your infield/shorter gloves, for the torque created by a force contacting the glove above the pocket (for which there is more available glove material). 2. The web is held in place by significantly more lace than other more “typical” webs- having a T-Web, I can tell you this creates a more “trampoline” type effect, and is less rigid. 3. The way in which you’re wearing your glove, extends the moment arm, really a longer lever, from the fulcrum which is twofold- your wrist, and then any movement from the interface from the base of your glove on the hand, until the end of your thumb and fingers.
    I believe the movement or “whip” you’re seeing, is not as a result of the lack of quality of the glove, but the subjective and compounded effects of the characteristics I’ve listed before. You’ve got a longer lever/moment arm, less rigid web and anchor materials, and worn in a way that creates a second fulcrum or at least a weakly anchored fulcrum. Any dynamic load placed on any lever system set up like this will create the effect you’re commenting on.

    I had a Robin Yount Rawlings growing up. I broke it in by having a car run over it with a ball in the pocket. I had the hardest time before Google convincing my mother that that really was what you do. Everyone always wanted to borrow it. I had the pocket just perfect.
