Nobody is immune to criticism. Everybody has flaws. Linus should have taken the criticism professionally. A good friend is someone who point out your flaws and tell you about those flaws in helping you make a better person. I am not saying just go point every damn flaw in every other person. I am saying that if someone did something wrong and it is hurting someone else or him/her self then point out that mistake and help him by saying, Hey, you did this wrong and by doing that you make yourself better.
And Linus knows this. It's advice he gave himself to others who were criticised and didn't respond in the best way. And still when he gets criticised, he feels personally attacked and gets overly defensive.
To be fair we don't know how much Steve and Linus have discussed these thing offline, but that begin said it didn't appear that there was a reach out to give or receive a comment from LMG just straight to trashing. Linus is arrogant and I think Steve is butt hurt LMG is moving into his space but neither one was wrong. Even back with the "trust me bro" Linus wasn't wrong, if him and Yvonne died in a plane crash tomorrow and LMG disappeared what good is a warranty you offered to make people feel safe "If you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed I will" At the end of the day I like both and have been sub to both for many years but I've maybe only ever seen a dozen or two of GN vids not even all beginning to end and I'd say I've seen 70% of LMG vids even back to NCIX Tech Tips
That's true but not really applicable in this case. Linus isn't just Linus, he's practically a shell of the person he used to be being puppeteered by the corporation that he created. You can't expect these people to respond with sincerity and humility, they'll much rather just give a call to their PR team and have them handle the situation, possibly resulting in a fake apology video or something similar. I like both LTT and GN, but the way LTT's attitude and what they did to Billet Labs prototype is just unforgiveable. You don't auction someone else's property, let alone a confidential one like a prototype.
Even if there was a miscommunication that they acknowledged (regarding the wrongly sent email or such), it still feels strange to put it up for auction, even if it's for charity. After all, it's someone else's property. Letting it remain in a warehouse for perhaps 6-12 months (it's a small sized product, not a big deal of space), until it's confirmed whether the owner will claim it, seems like a reasonable approach.

The biggest disrespect that LTT could have done was to put GN in the position they did and expect some favorable bias from GN. That puts GN on the hook with their own reputation where only they suffer a fallout that LTT could much more easily weather, but GN may not be able to. People who viewed Linus and his team as their best friend are now aware of the fact that they can actually have glaring flaws that need to be corrected. Being called out on bad actions and mistakes, is correction. Being forced to take accountability is correction, especially when adhered to. Does it mean them apologizing and saying they'll address things means it's all water under the bridge? No, of course not. Scrutiny should continue to make sure there aren't further issues like what transpired. But it's equally childish to go "Jimmy you lied to me about my computer I'm not your friend anymore i hate you". As for claims of poor working environment and inappropriate behavior, that has to transpire gradually. After all, it hasn't been long since Bayonetta's VA literally lied about everything and had everyone running believing her and attacking Platinum Games only to find out it was all bullshit. Claims should be taken seriously but also not be jumped on to be taken as fact. ESPECIALLY with the timing of it. Gamers Nexus did a good service both to viewers, and for Linus Media Group. Doesn't mean they're suddenly evil horrible people. But an issue occurs when you try treating an entertainer's word as gospel and elevate him to the likes of PC gaming God.

Legally speaking: Corporations are people too. The kind of people who prioritize money over even their own people, no matter the consequences as long as the money is good & business can continue. If one would not defend a conman, carpet bagger, violent attacker then why defend a corporation or their owners? A corporation can be analogized to a raging attack dog restrained by a thin leash & a distracted owner. There will be problems & they know it. They don't care unless there are undesirable consequences which outweigh the money & power. Let's take a moment to observe The Narcissist's Prayer: "That didn't happen & if it did It wasn't that bad & if it was It's not a big deal & if it is That's not my fault & if it was I didn't mean it & if I did You deserved it."

TBH, I don't think that's what caused this, but rather Linus' response in the WAN show afterwards. Instead of apologizing to GN about the comment, he instead went the "I'm sorry you feel that way" route.
@@irvanray1898 He was, to some extent. He was also responding to Steve from GN as well. Both Steves were in communication with Linus, and I believe that on the WAN show he focused on GN more, since it's likely that they took the comment more seriously than HUB did.

Seriously, it's a very bad idea to start an apology video with "it's honestly really hard when people..." It not only turns the apology into a whiny "oh woe is me!" rant, but it shifts blame. People don't like that.
Yeah, but in his defence, you can see how it psychologically affects you when people are calling you a thief and whatnot even if you know the true origin of the error. Linus clearly apologized to the community thereafter while acknowledging that he became emotional again. He is trying not to shift the blame which i am okay with. I didn't hate their apology video at all
@@abd_cheese7353You can tell that to your friends or to your therapist. Not to millions of people in an "apology video". At that point it just seems like manipulation.

@@abd_cheese7353 Except that's not a defense. If you aren't able to psychologically handle criticism you shouldn't be the face of any business. End of story. I know for a fact that if Gamers Nexus messed up with a review, they would hold themselves accountable for it and own up about their mistakes. Steve wouldn't release a video saying "It's really hard when people get so upset about a simple mistake we made :( considering how accurate are testing usually is we would hope our audience would understand that these things happen."
That's how it looks to me too. He was so cavalier about the GPU cooler situation. It's like he has so much money now he doesn't even care any more about what he's doing, or who he is stepping on. Not worth his big money time.
The apology video from LTT was exactly like watching one of DSP Gaming's rambles when he screws up and fake apologizes. You just know they're not gonna do everything that they said in that video.
GN did nothing but his job and provided the true information for each benchmark they tested. Steve even acknowledged that sharing the film regarding the incident makes him uncomfortable, but he has to do it; why? Because it's his job, no matter what or how you're feeling, you must complete your duty as it is assigned to you, it is solely your responsibility to make it happen, and you choose to, putting friendship and feelings makes the quality of the work less efficient because you muster up unnecessary yet unwanted emotional energy towards your workload. To summarize, never take things personally at work.
1:54 Omg, you can SEE the look on Luke's face just change like, "Dude, I've saved your ass on here a million times, but this might be beyond my ability to fix."
This isnt about not being "friends" or drama, I knew "content creators" would misunderstand this(for the sake of easy drama content)... This is about integrity, not emotions.
Linus & his employees started this drama by throwing shade at Gamer Nexus. Gamer nexus simply responded with truth. LTT is not the gold standard of tech reviews their reviews are not credible so they should be self aware before insulting other channels
Exactly. Dude could have made the standalone statement, "we run new tests every time," and it would have been just fine. There was no need to make a claim at what GN & HWunboxed do. The real problem is that someone edited that video, sat and chewed on that statement for a minute and decided they liked the way it tasted.
I can't even fathom why would anyone think that LTT or well LMG ever was anywhere close to "gold standard". They never were, their specialization is short and entertaining stuff with tech products. Their longest reviews are phones, where Linus takes months to use a new one, but even then they aren't too detailed. To criticize LTT about scrutinized reviews is like being bitchy about burger not being perfect in McDonalds.
I don't think GN thought this would cause this much fallout, and if Linus thinks this kind of fallout was intended then that's on him. And anyone who actually cares about the brand and image that they have created for themselves should welcome their friends and colleagues calling them out when they act badly. There's no reason they cant still be friendly after all of the dust settles. If linus has any integrity at all he will realize this wasn't some sort of personal attack, and that GN is just trying to do whats best for the sake of everyone.
A few months ago it was Steve from GN who mentioned basically that with the built of the labs, it was going to be basically gloves off towards Linus since they are no longer the small niche tech company they once where but basically a 100+ staffed serious company. The things they do, they promote, matter. Have impact on the tech community. To then be LTT and point towards GN and HarborUnboxed as being small and basically 'bad at testing' a few months later baffles me. Only point out others' mistakes if you are sure you don't make loads yourself. Guess the 100+ people company never got that memo.
Its honestly so sad to see. Fell in love with computers bc ltt and found so many other good channels and learned so much. But watching the rise and potential fall of ltt the past few years has been interesting.
LTT is just full on Nvidia shills. Going to conferences that are essentially free vacations and documenting it, while other channels point out the practice is bribery. LTT in general treats Nvidia like it's "just better" without any reasonable evidence. Yay walled garden ecosystem. Say this ecosystem drops a function that you based a build on, well you're screwed. Wasn't there some RAID system run off Nvidia GPUs? What happens when this proof of concept stops working, which a business server runs on? It's not legit, it's propaganda. Real businesses would be using linux servers, which Nvidia doesn't support. Nvidia sells you this fake "prosumer" model that has artificial support tiers. Gamers don't use any of the features, they're being marketed to with BS and charged extra for it. Somebody needs to step up and call a spade a spade with the scammery.
Bro come on. They clearly outlined exactly what they'll be doing in order to restructure and mitigate error in the future. They've already made progress
I'm part of that demographic that had no idea this was happening although their pumping out of videos had me worried because there were most likely gonna get burned out eventually and I guess maybe that's what happened here. Which causes them to make too many unforgettable mistakes

He comments on how he feels big tech comapnies are disliked because they are not human and don't acknowledge their mistakes. "What you need to do is, you need to come out, acknowledge that you did something wrong, apologize for it, lay out the plan for how you are going to prevent it from happening again and then you need to do your best to prevent it from happening again. You need to actually behave like a respectable human being. And then people will like you." He goes on to make fun of the "embarrassing" apology that was half-assed and let to the drama to take off. How the tables have turned...

Totally agree, it's called constructive criticism.
And Linus knows this. It's advice he gave himself to others who were criticised and didn't respond in the best way. And still when he gets criticised, he feels personally attacked and gets overly defensive.

They did acknowledge that it was a mistake but the way they handled the aftermath is what is unforgivable.

Thank you NikTek for summarizing all of that in a compact, fashionable meme type videos.
That's crazy.
P.s: I immediately knew I was about to see the Interstellar guy after reading the title of the video 😁
And Bam! The very first frame
LTT illegaly auctioned off someone elses prototype to the their competitors which almost crippled that small company, after bashing their product on video(they tested the product incorrectly). Besides that there are issues with linus not wanting to spend another 200 dollars on re-testing a product when the results seem off(his exact words on a podcast). There is also a huge sexual harrasment case against LMG, and they make biased reviews based on their relationship with the manufacturer. This was all pointed out in Gamer Nexus's video. I hope I made a good summary.
Ah I almost forgot, the response from Linus was just an unhinged rant and blaming others for these mistakes, while taking no accountability or feeling remorse. Then they tried making an apology video which they monetized and basically sponsored lmao.
@@vukvidanovic8276 Thank you vukvidanovic8276 for summarizing all of that in a compact text comment.
One question: What was the Prototype that was auctioned?
Appreciate it. So many things at once, That's crazy.
I have to learn from you that " how to milk contant from ongoing drama" any how your video is funny man
Using the interstellar clip is hilarious😂😂😂 I would Fanboy for lioness before but now the fact he can't take responsibility he really is just off his rocker
Ha... Lioness..
Damn you're right this hits man, hope this shit ain't ever happening again, seriously a major clusterfuck of a situation love both gn and ltt, hope to a good comeback for ltt.
This really does hit different I do hope things heal. It's actually sad seeing this after being a fan in this space for years.
Can someone simply explain to me what was the drama between Linus and GamerNexus? What happened exactly?
Nothing. Gamer nexus is just a jealous boy
Gamers Nexus released a video showing many issues with the Linus Tech Tips channel such as repeated mistakes when testing hardware and poor handling of a company’s prototype. You can watch the video on the Gamers Nexus channel. LTT also uploaded an apology video on their channel which might be worth a watch.
It started here 1:16. From this one employee who said LTT does intense testing in their new lab. Gamers Nexus showed some benchmarking errors in older LTT videos. Thats all.
I think this controversy is unnecessary. I love LTT, GN and HUB equally.
GN has a video on it and it's worth watching.
@@thewebheadgt thanks.
he lived long enough to see himself as a villain.
German's theme fits well since this whole situation gets tarnished with conflicting feelings for us who actually like both. It's rather bittersweet
The PC gamers’ reaction was accurate for me.
We love you both, the both platforms are very fun and helped us a lot, so please get past the mistakes and refocus on the future
Niktek going 7 stages of grief with these videos
linus should have sell lmg for 100 million when he had the chance
was nice knowing linus tech tips
it's all downhill from here
In 200 years, operas will be written with Linus and Steve as the main characters and the entire audience will sob
For anyone looking for the song, it's "The First Hunter" from Bloodborne
Forget GN, LTT or Jay, Niktek is the tech youtuber you really want to watch
Seeing your dedication in these last few days, you must be very happy that this happened.
Keep Milking content from it while it lasts 👍
