I got the Pickleball Apes pulse V 2 weeks ago and just picked it up and started playing with it- no adjustment needed. No extra weight needed also. It hits at a little below power paddles, but ALOT more than my old Volair. The amazing thing was how easy it was to control. I could rip hard topspin serves or slices- into or against the wind- no problem. Soft and great feel on blocks and dinks yet deadly at the net. I finally don’t feel the need to lock for a better paddle. This is it.
While not a fan of the Pickleball Apes Pulse E and its high swing weight/smaller sweet spot, the Pulse V was an eye opener. I haven't mained a standard/wide body shape paddle in 5+ years. On top of that I needed no perimeter weighting.
Any of these newer paddles quieter than others, our town is doing noise studies at our courts and we are trying to be proactive and find paddles that are certified and quieter. Our Paddleteks seem to be some of the loudest paddles out there on overhead drives….switched to some old CRBNs and they seemed more muted? Or is it the tone that makes them louder?
I’m looking for a paddle that is less than 110 swing weight and closer to 7.0 twist weight to block bangers. I need a huge sweet spot and good dwell time for cross court dink battles and off pace placement accuracy. Which paddle would you recommend? I was thinking the Neonic Flare Titanium but it’s 14mm which I’m hesitant about for control purposes. My current paddles are CRBN 3X and Selkirk Pro Amped Air Invikta which are both elongated so I’d like a wide paddle to compliment them, or at least a hybrid shape.
To get a swing weight of around 110 or less and a 16 mm paddle narrows your choices. You will have to stick with a standard/widebody shape. Here are some good options to consider: 11six24 Monarch JellyBean, Spartus Apollo, Pikkl Hurricane Pro, Volair Mach 2 Forza.

Great review, thanks! Curious how the PB Apes Pulse S compares to the J2K which is my current paddle.
Love! Love! Love this one! You’re explaining why the Pulse and the ProStar are both special!❤
Thanks! Great detailed explanation.
Thanks for explaining how paddle companies are using core tech to improve control. Great video!
Surprised you like the Pulse E, compared to the S or V that everyone gravitated to, and left the E off the list.
