pikalove I know I’m 3 years too late to this party but he meant the other guitarist that was next to Lou Reed and the Bass Player was Phil Simonon from The Clash as well!
Ah well. I can get what you're saying too. Though I'm quite fond of this performance personally. It's really grown on me and I prefer it to the studio-version, but at my first listen I thought it was kind of ridiculous. It just feels more alive in my opinion. I think it's the shock from the contrast between how straightforward most of Gorillaz other collaborators have been. Iunno. I find this quite charming, but everyone doesn't need to have the same taste, aye? Cheers
@ MaliciousGrim05 Actually 2D is voiced by Damon Albarn who can be seen playing the upright piano in this video and who doesn't look anything alike to his cartoon character in real life. "That guitar player", as have been mentioned, is Mick Jones from The Clash.
@@IvyBrooksHobkin Yeah they didn't compensate for that fact, plus the loudness of the backing. It was a shame. We could hear it on the night too, very frustrating but still incredible to see Lou Reed playing !
In commercial terms it was a terrible solo, but it's not about presenting a pleasant melody when it comes to Lou. There's way more to music that you would know about if you'd really studied music, like the alternative aspects and genres such as "noise"-music, ya kno'. It's all about conveying a feeling, even if it is presented through what is to the masses considered an "out of tune"-solo. But really, dive deeper into the subject and you might find this is more brilliant than you actually think.
The man basically introduced noise into rock, and although he indeed can play melodic solos, he prefers his own signature. And with Lou's vocal delivery, I prefer it too. I guarantee you he was always very concious of what he was trying to deliver with his guitar
The logic of saying his performance s good because he is a legend is like saying phantom menace was good because the originals are classics. And guess what, phantom menace was terrible.
have you even read the other comments? Dude, I used to like a lot of Lou Reed. But in that performance is crap. And honestly. It does not presents an abstract compliment to the song. And if you did understand that solo by that, then sure it was. I'm done arguing about this. I used to like him, now I don't anymore, and that performance just helped me realize that. Now get over it, and this is the INTERNET, if you like him you shouldn't bother with comments like mine.
Actually dude, I know what you're saying. I do actually studied music. But here's what: He didn't passed any feelings. I completely understand what you're saying, I mean there are some bands there only make noises, and I love them from the bottom of my heart. They go out of tune, they don't know how to sing. But they give me certain feelings. With Lou is all crap. I used to like his music. But that performance with gorillaz was COMPLETELY crap.
Yep. That album it's another perfect example that this man it's not made for breathe the same air as great artist. Such as Gorillaz and Mellica. He should make his own crap, there are people who actually like him. But leave the real artists alone.
Have you seen art of 2D? The Gorillaz animated lead singer? well he has terrible teeth too, and he is voiced by "that guitar player", who is much more than just some "guitar player".
Stop the emoticon, please. And, I didn't just talk about his voice. I talked about the whole thing. I love it when he sings it, I really do, in the original track he's amazing. But the guitar playing is completely crap. I studied music, and that crap was SO out of tune that I just got annoyed by it. And another thing, I might appreciate a 65 year old singing if I could hear him.
Well, I don't expect that. I only putted my opinion out here. If you like it or not, that's your problem. Now, to say that that solo in this video wasn't crap and completely out of tune, is either because you're deaf or because you don't understand music. You see, i used to like him, but that performance is just horrible.
i hate Lou Reed. And that solo was so out of tune. Believe me. I love the original track, but live with Lou singing it, is just crap. Out of tune, you can't hear the vocals. Crap.
RIP Lou Reed, one of the greatest pioneers of rock and rock there has ever been.
I´d say this is the best feat of Gorillaz' history, and I know this is pretty bold statement
It is mate
arguably their best song
Lou Reed is commonly regarded as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. You can't say he's crap and expect to be taken seriously..
I agree, even though this was written 12 years ago.
@@Whey4344 thanks! I stand by it, 12 years later!
Wow... This was actually possible... Lou Reed, Paul Simonon and Mick Jones on the same stage!
Antoine Gingras-Saint Louis and don’t forget Damon
Half of The Clash, Lou Reed and Damon Albern on same stage is such a holy moment!
Unfortunately will never happen again 😞
Wish I was there
Lou Reed's a master of feedback and distortion...
This is the one and only time I saw Lou Reed live...
My idols: Damon Albarn, Lou Reed, Mick Jones and Paul Simonon... I wish Joe Strummer were there
"that guitar player" is Mick Jones of The Clash.
bro that's Lou Reed. Did you even read the title?
pikalove I hope you're joking

A Jae In the Life of Day Thank You for that catch!
Lou Reed is a legend!
Lou Reed's kind of like Rutger Hauer...He doesn't age, he just becomes so epic that his physical body can't keep up.
Damon Albarn sounds great live

Could have been an amazing live video if the sound engineer hadn’t screwed it up.

Same here. I don't necessary prefer his vocals nor his guitar skills, but I think it's just his style.
Lou Reed kills 'em all!
Thank you Lou Reed .
Good Song!!

Best former of Gorillaz. Damon, Lou Reed, Jones and Simonon!
Who would even thought Lou, Mick and Paul would be on stage together?
why is Lou Reed's mic so low?
Pretty sure its just the fact he is pretty quiet
@@IvyBrooksHobkin Yeah they didn't compensate for that fact, plus the loudness of the backing. It was a shame. We could hear it on the night too, very frustrating but still incredible to see Lou Reed playing !
Because he can't sing
I just came from a video of david bowie... who mentioned lou reed, and I ended up here... what a coincidence
With my fav VU song being I Heard Her Call My Name, helluva solo!
RIP Lou Reed.
kapoo louuu buenisimo , gorillaz =)
tienes razón
Is Lou's mic off or something?
It's hard to control the muting of the audience since they're screaming a lot and his side is sorta messed up

Anyone got any idea what pedals Lou used for this?
Someone should have turned on Reeds mic
the velvet underground + the clash + blur...
looks absolutely off his chops on gear here. legend
If the drum track had soul this would be in another level. Still is, but really like might.
RIP Lou Reed :-(

this is probably the one gorillaz song that i like better as the album version. probably cause Lou's mic is so quiet.
guaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, with a Steinberger!

he did once, search for live version of Fashion :)
cool
he actually has done, but it never got released
I made this statement even before he made Gorillaz:
Damon Albarn = musical genius
If you say Lou is crap, you have no understanding of music at all.
Taste is subjective
Studied music seems legit. Go back and do it again until you get it right!
RIP
Still trying to figure out what the fuck he says after "they they wear phony clothes"
