This is an excellent video. I repacked a RWD Pathfinder today. Other videos are way too vague on how much to tighten the bearings. Some cars require a preload, some require some slack. This video tells you how to tighten the bearings (preload) to seat them and then back off and retighten. I think I did exactly this (did not use the inch range torque wrench but I did seat the bearing first. Backed off and 'snugged' the bearing retainer. All went back exactly as removed (the two screws that hold the bearing retainer plate.) A1 has EXCELLENT How-To videos. Thank you for sharing your expertise. Basically I have a rear-wheel drive Pathfinder and I can't find a video anywhere to do the front wheel bearings never did the front wheel bearings before so I'd like to watch the video before I do it a mechanically inclined enough to do it but still you know torque aspects and stuff like that I need to know these things LOL and the real drive Pathfinder is the same as a 2001 Infiniti QX4 right cuz they both are just spitting image is there any way somebody can blast the video about that
This is cool. Very well explained and easy to follow through. I drive a 99 Nissan QD32 and and am still going for the 18 years now. Keep on the great work James

Thank you. I wonder why nobody in any of the Nissan Pathfinder bearing replacement videos ever seem to change the needle bearing inside the stub-axle. That is usually the source of vibration, since it is the one supporting the outer end and CV joint of the axle.
Other than the torque specification difference you referenced for the Caliper Bracket Mounting Bolts, are there any additional difference for 1997 Nissan Pathfinder 4X4 front wheel bearings? Thank you for another accurate well-presented how-to video, please keep up the good work you are helping a lot of people.

Ik this video is 3 years old, but I'm stuck the reluctor wheel is on so tight that I've already broken the tibs off 2 of the special sockets trying to get it loose! Any possible idea what i can do to get it loose?? Ive tried puches, sockets, etc now getting ready to try and cut through the holes to see about cracking it off, i have another one to replace it with, from the junk yard. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Ty very much for the video also! Will
Overall great video and I will be using it for my friend's 2000. However, if you do what he is doing at @:50 seconds you stand a strong chance of sending brake fluid all over the engine and if the hood is up as is so common you may actually put brake fluid on the paint and ruin it. Remove the brake fluid cap and cover with a cloth at the least. At best take a small turkey baster and remove an inch of brake fluid and then put a red mechanics cloth over the brake master cylinder.
Just did the front sway bar endlink bushings on my 02' Pathfinder and it's pretty easy and straightforward. You'll need a 17mm socket to remove the 2 nuts facing forward and a 3/4" open end wrench behind the nut to keep the end link bolt from turning as you loosen them. Hope that helps.
JRG yeah they ended up doing a front sway bar end link video and I’ve tackled it myself already but thanks for the suggestions. You wouldn’t happen to know any sources for rear wheel bearing replacement though?
Can you please tell me where I can find a video that is on a 2001 QX4 to change the front wheel bearings I can't find one nowhere doesn't anybody own one anymore
I recently wanted to do the same for my 02' Pathfinder but couldn't find any aftermarket hubs. Turns out it's only available OEM from Nissan and $300+ each. Ended up re-using the hub and hardware but replaced inner and outer bearings.
i just did this with my nissan and i have alot of misc parts in the middle to get the spindle nut, i put everything back together and it seems that when the hub cap is on there is some drag, anyone have any suggestions?
+Mr. z'd out Thanks for watching our video! This is not as common compared to other vehicles from this generation but if you experience any grinding or whining when you are driving and turning it may be the wheel bearing making that noise. 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
HELP PLEASE ...What brand of wheel bearing did you use ? Because I get a national bearing from orellys autoparts and i installed but my wheel still moving shaking a little bit , what I did wrong? Help please
hey...did you PRELOAD the bearings to 60 ft lbs (it's easy if you have the notched tool to do it) and set them/then back them off to 13 ish inch lbs (they do this in the video)...if you don't you can get that result.
Will these need to be cleaned and repacked every 30k-50k miles or if done right is this not necessary? Also from what it looks like, if I order the bearings OEM, the race and bearing come as an assembly. Does this mean I will not need to press in the race and bearing separately and instead, as one unit, or will they still be able to come apart and be installed as shown in this video?
The bearings and races will be separate. You will still need to press in the races and then pack the bearings but they can be separated. Go to an auto parts store to get the parts because if you go to the dealership you will pay a hefty price for them. You won't want to use the bearings to press in the races as it can destroy both of them, you will need to use a proper tool to install them. I have 216K miles on my 99 Pathfinder, and the bearings just started making noise so when the weather breaks I'm going to pack them. If the races are worn I will just replace them. I have to replace my CV axles as well so I will do it all at once.
@@InTheDogHouse3DPrinting I see, that's pretty much the assumption I was under. I'm currently only at around 175k but with my worn suspension, it's put excess wear on the bearings from turns likely. I can hear my front right bearing oscillating when driving and after jacking it up its got a lot of play. My only question is about the parts. I've always thought the OEM quality is the best especially when talking about a crucial part like a wheel bearing.
These bearings require a lot more work compared to the ones on my Silverado but paying $40 for a bearing vs $325 pays for its self even after you buy the tools for it
Xterra/Frontier almost identical - but for the 4-WD hub cap mounts with hex head socket cap screws instead of nuts. And be careful reinstalling - it has to line up perfectly: DON'T try pulling it home with the hex head screws - you'll feel it sit down right when you do it.😉
Only wished you listed the size of the socket (& a part number for it) used to tighten the spanner nut holding the bearings in place. Other videos show DIYers totally skipping that tool altogether. BIG BIG BIG MISTAKE!!! This task REQUIRES proper tools to seat the bearings and apply the correct torque settings.
