- This episode of Grounded is off to Elko, Nevada where we take a look at the history of Casino Express. Founded specially to operate gaming charters taking gamblers to casinos, Casino Express would go on to operate ad-hoc executive charters as well as provide aircraft operations for Tahoe Air before moving fully into executive charters and rebranding as Xtra Airways. You'll have surely seen the King of Diamonds or the Queen of Hearts 737s, now is the time to find out the story behind those aircraft so sit down, grab a brew and enjoy!

It had been a real struggle getting the latest episode complete, now that I'm flying again I am very, very busy with 1-2 days free per week to research, write, record and compile an episode. In the 2 months since the last episode I had 4 false starts with other airlines before taking on Casino Express, after pulling out all the stops to get it done earlier this month I discovered that the audio had been ruined from about halfway in and thus I would need to re-record it all. Having rushed back from New York last weekend and despite being called off a home-standby to operate a flight to Turkey the next day I have somehow managed to get this completed and online in time for a Saturday release. I honestly will try harder to keep the episodes coming at a much better rate so stay tuned for future episodes :)
I really appreciate any comments and feedback on this or other episodes as well as suggestions for future episodes. I just got out of an airplane with an ex casino express pilot who then went on to xtra . This led me search for the video. One of the nicest pilots I’ve ever worked with .

For poops and giggles my ex-wife and I paid $59 for the pair of us to spend three nights in Elko from Bellingham. What can I say, fairly nice hotel at the Red Lion, good cheap buffet and restaurant and the black jack was good. In todays money that is $101. Heck of a deal, being an aviation nut I would pay that just to fly on the tired old 737-200.
I remember the flight was about 90 min late, the three flight attendants went to the terminal building checked your ID (did not ask to see cash) and boarded the flight. I didn't win the dollar game and dumped some money in the casino. Still great deal and a fun trip. I don't recall them tracking your hours of play but hey your stuck in Elko, it was either play, eat, sleep or be very board. Thank you Expo for the memories that were Casino Express

I use Corel to put the video together, Audacity to record the audio and MS Paint to design the "slides".
