It’s always been remarkable to me how McCartney’s dozens and dozens and dozens of hit songs, whether they were written when he was a member of The Beatles, written when he was a member of Wings, or written as a solo artist (1970 - 1971) & (1980 - 2024) sound absolutely nothing like each other. Each and every Paul McCartney hit song is truly it’s own separate species of animal. That is one of the things that, for me, is what sets him apart from the majority of the world’s songwriters.
Paul himself has said The Beatles would try to write a Smokey Robinson sounding song or be inspired by someone else, moreover he also stated they didn't wish to end up like The Supreme's, sounding pretty much the same on every record. He carried this over to his solo career, hence a song like "I'm Carrying" and "Live and let Die". Widely disparate.
When at the age of 10, I saw his face for the first time on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964... I was dumbstruck and instantly in love and I still am. His driven talent is unsurpassed. It's God-given !! What a gift Paul has been to all of us. And such a regular guy and awesome husband and father. I hate to think of him leaving this world but it is inevitable so I am preparing myself now cuz it's going to be a real heartbreak. Live and Let Die is an amazing rock song that will go down in history with about another 100 or so McCartney songs that have touched millions of fans. Paul keeps chugging along and doing all types of music and will leave an amazing musical library for the world. No musician can compare to McCartney. Their will never be another.
+Superblackhawks_fan68 Man Paul McCartney is a man who loves music and he's not selective about who he plays with and where he plays. He is still the lad from Liverpool who grew up in a normal family and did normal things, with normal friends and normal people. Yes, he's beyond rich, he is beyond famous, and he is not "ordinary" by our standards, yet he sees himself as ordinary and he feels ordinary in his mind, heart, and soul. Consequently, he will associate with ordinary people whereas John and George (maybe John) wouldn't dare associate with these people (especially George). Dan Joe Salazar Paul and the Beatles as well tapped into something from the other realm and brought it down to earth. Happens very rarely and it's like God said here you go if you had gifts like this regularly you wouldn't appreciate them.
When you see McCartney live the sound is amazing. But TV, Computers & Cell phone speakers and recorders dont capture the true sound and feel. See McCartney live as i have and you will be blown away. His voice is great and the sound pounds through you as he makes his way through his hit Solo songs with The Beatles and Wings and is just sounds amazing. I seen him 5 times and i have seen the Stones and others and i can tell you that by far the talent that i seen from McCartney live playing many instruments and singing solo songs like Yesterday, Blackbird and here today were perfect. Band on the run, Jet, Juniors Farm, Another day, Hi Hi Hi, Listen to what the man says, Back in the USSR, Got to get you into my life, Night before, Hello Goodbye, etc were mind blowing and pound through you. If he comes anywhere near your town or city, i wouldnt miss it. Watching a living legend will give you a musical memory for life.
A Graham So true! I don't think he sounds great in TV performances such as this, but as a young fan, I feel so priveliged to have seen him twice in my short life. I've seen a once in a lifetime show twice...
Theatre Mad don't worry, I don't think many have forgotten the Beatles, but I do think that seeing as two are dead, and Paul has a more prominent career than Ringo, he may be the most famous one, in 2018 at least. But in no way whatsoever am I trying to take John, George, and Ringo down a peg. They were all geniuses of course!
@sadams291 To be fair on Paul, he did support the campaign for rage against the machine to number 1 - he didn't want an x factor song to be the xmas number 1 again. I think that's more important to note; him appearing on the show doesn't show his support for it, it's just something he did, maybe because he wanted to perform to millions of people live or something.
@sadams291 He has stated he does watch the program. It wasn't a step down for him. The guy likes to perform and, this gets him in touch with people that don't necessarily listen to his music.
OMG, I have never seen this before. I had NO idea he would go on shows like these. WHY did he never show up on "America's Got Talent" would be COOL if he could be a guest judge sometime, even if it's only for a day. It has been done by other celebrities! LOVE this!!
I saw Paul and his band at Hyde Park in 2009, they performed for almost 3 hours non-stop and they were brilliant. A magical time for me as I have been a fan since I was 7 years of age. Simon Cowell done well to get them on X Factor
It shows Paul McCartney sharing his talent with up and coming stars (?). It seems very generous of Paul to play along with the contestants. I would have been in too much awe to have been able to open my mouth!
bobbydylanio - McCartney is trying to help others - he always does something like this around Christmas time. He loves performing anywhere, but he's always helping new bands get noticed. He's an altruist, not merely a moneyearner. I don't like XFactor either, but I expect McCartney did it for someone he liked and to support youngsters new to the fame scene. He's a free spirit and still a rebel - he always does what others say he shouldn't all the time. Always has.
I'm only 13 and people my age are only into things like Justin Bieber and all sorts of that rubbish, but The Beatles are one of my all time favourite bands. It's like alot of people don't respect good quality music anymore. And bloody hell, 1 billion record sales?! Paul McCartney is definitely a music legend. And hope your all 'Simply, having, a wonderful Christmas time!'
Oh my Goddddd! For almost 5 years now I thought his appearance on this program was just a rumor. I am just NOW seeing this on the dawn of 2014. Thanks for posting this! GREAT performance!
I must say I appreciate the irony. Sir Paul McCartney, a legend who's career spans fifty years, singing alongside ... er, whoever they are, who're already forgotten a few years after this was first broadcast.
Frankly I don't care what the complaints are. If this is a show then the finale is to showcase great music not necessarily popular music. Thankfully Paul is both and put on one hell of a show.
@powderfinger71 , why? I mean he likes the show and the fact that he shared the stage with them both adds to the contestants experience and it's just a really nice gesture for the show, at least he doesn't just use the show to showcase a new album or tour like all the other guests do, now that annoys me, i can see your point though. Paul, you rock!
Never another band like the Beatles regardless what people without musical talent say. And more importantly there will never be another McCartney. Writer, singer, musician extraordinaire..... Everywhere
I tell my husband he will be on a stsge somewhere, in the 'na na, na, na na na' part of Hey Jude and just keel over with a shit eating grin on his face.
You know what? After what this guy has accomplished, he is actually pretty humble... other guys had just one hit and you couldn't even talk to them... I wish I could play and sing like that at his age...
why people complain about Paul being at X factor? He is Paul McCartney, he can do anything he wants. He doesn´t need promotion, recognition, etc. he is already a legend.
I don't think Paul is selling himself out. At this point in his career, it's safe to say that he really doesn't have to perform where he doesn't want to.... so I guess he must just love performing, and he enjoys that show, so he decided to go and have a bit of fun. Nothing wrong about that really...
Usually I hate these 'talent' shows and the over produced music that comes from them. It's nice to see them paying homage to a time when pop music wasnt complete garbage.
-"I know you watch the show at home..." YEAH, RIGHT! -"Both of them are good. One of 'em's going to win." ------ McCartney way of saying 'this show is rubbish and it's all scripted by Cowell, so... I don't care.'
As John responded to royalty, while on stage, "Those of you in the cheaper seat, clap you hands. The rest of you can rattle your jewelry, LOL! At the close of the performance, he said, " I hope we passed the audition! " :)
it's so reassuring to hear dermot o'leary so in awe of him! just goes to show that the younger generation can appreciate real music too. plus paul's performance was spectacular. it's good also to make people my age (i'm 14) realise that the beatles were the band that really changed music and affected what we hear now. watching this video just makes me feel so happy!!!
Can't see the problem with this... No-one on here can criticize McCartney really lets be fair. Hes done everything there is to do in music, He played a few songs on XFactor big deal. John Lennon is my favourite Beatle, And I agree He wouldnt have played XFactor in a million years but Him and Paul were completely different people. But this was also important for them to form the greatest songwriting partnership in history. What Paul lacked John had in abundance and Vica Versa. Leave Paul be..
@MissFunkyShannon Im 16 and love them too - ur right, people probably are just jealous lol. Been to see Paul live 3 times, twice in 2009 and once in 2010 - and he was epic every single time.. But lets be fair - people are allowed thier own tastes in music. But when people say that The Beatles are crap? LOL - maybe they don't like them and that's fine - but crap?! they clearly don't know what band they're talking about. KEEP ROCKIN' MACCA!!!
I love the fact that i'm looking down the comments and there are people who are still bitching about the X Factor. Geez, Paul (the true king of pop) chose to go on it and he's a fan of the show so that must mean they're doing SOMETHING right. I mean, my god it's a music show and Paul is a music icon.....how can it be a bad thing??? People, just enjoy the music and if you've got a bad opinion about the x factor or Paul (you'd have to be mad to do so) then just leave this video now. Paul = LEGEND!
There will never be another man like sir Paul McCartney he is still one good looking man with those big puppy dog eyes and his cute baby face and that great smile even looks so good with his gray hair

@Zoned 247 True
@@nancydawson3870 Bin? Me?
God bless Paul n Ringo , miss u so much John & George !!!
This lad could go far.
Yup. That's Paul McCartney sharing the stage with Olly Murs and Jedward.
Ugh.
WHO?
Never heard of them.
Frankly I don't care what the complaints are. If this is a show then the finale is to showcase great music not necessarily popular music. Thankfully Paul is both and put on one hell of a show.
Theres no more band that can make a history.....only THE BEATLES ......FOREVER!!!
Revolucionário, inspirado demais!!! This is Paul Macca, forever in my heart!!!
The Legend is Sir Paul McCartney- 'nuff said!
Is Paul the most important legend of the 20th century still alive? Yes or obviously?
THE MOST FANTASTIC SONGS WRITER IN THE WHOLE WORLD
@powderfinger71 , why? I mean he likes the show and the fact that he shared the stage with them both adds to the contestants experience and it's just a really nice gesture for the show, at least he doesn't just use the show to showcase a new album or tour like all the other guests do, now that annoys me, i can see your point though. Paul, you rock!
Never another band like the Beatles regardless what people without musical talent say.
And more importantly there will never be another McCartney.
Writer, singer, musician extraordinaire..... Everywhere
Love Macca ..total fuckin' LEGEND
After seeing The Beatles live twice I certainly agree that there will never be another band like even remotely like them!
ahhh....i wish paul AND ringo were here...
Beatles the best band ever!!!!!AND NO COMMENTS!!!😤😤😤😤...................😊
I commented
absolutely fantastic man! Even if he dies, his songs will never ever be forgotten.
I tell my husband he will be on a stsge somewhere, in the 'na na, na, na na na' part of Hey Jude and just keel over with a shit eating grin on his face.
Does the audience know how fucking lucky they are...
@Newevotime1988 *King of music
I love his military jackets...
Paul = GOAT of music!!!!!
I prefer John Lennon's military jacket
I don't think Paul is selling himself out. At this point in his career, it's safe to say that he really doesn't have to perform where he doesn't want to.... so I guess he must just love performing, and he enjoys that show, so he decided to go and have a bit of fun. Nothing wrong about that really...
Paul is the greatest musician there ever was.
Beatles and Wings songs ..he formed Wings and his wife Linda was the key board player miss her.
HAVING THE BIGGEST MUSIC LEGEND OF ALL THE TIMES ON A STAGE LIKE THIS... JUDGES HAD TO BE BOWED TO HIM DURING ALL THE PERFORMANCE!!!!!
Sir Paul is epic as always. I couldn't stop thinking that... lucky guys...you were singing with a legend! I would do anything to have this experience.
So weird because I remember when this was on TV when I was 7. I was like the biggest Beatle fan and I was so happy!
Usually I hate these 'talent' shows and the over produced music that comes from them. It's nice to see them paying homage to a time when pop music wasnt complete garbage.
He is a amazing legendary artist!
Paul is a such a good guy 🖤
Someone should give him the golden buzzer,🙂
Hope this guy wins the competition
-"I know you watch the show at home..." YEAH, RIGHT!
-"Both of them are good. One of 'em's going to win." ------ McCartney way of saying 'this show is rubbish and it's all scripted by Cowell, so... I don't care.'
He made it through the next round!!! Oh yeah!!!
As John responded to royalty, while on stage, "Those of you in the cheaper seat, clap you hands. The rest of you can rattle your jewelry, LOL! At the close of the performance, he said, " I hope we passed the audition! "
:)
Nice comment
it's so reassuring to hear dermot o'leary so in awe of him! just goes to show that the younger generation can appreciate real music too. plus paul's performance was spectacular. it's good also to make people my age (i'm 14) realise that the beatles were the band that really changed music and affected what we hear now. watching this video just makes me feel so happy!!!
Sir Paul McCartney is greatttttt. We love him in Brazil.
marco santi santos we love him here in philippines.
LEGEND....
LEGENDARY
How generous of Simon to let Paul through to the next round!))))))
I wish we could tell john they passed the audition.
"His songs helped change the face of music forever"
And now he's helping Simon Cowell damage music forver, how ironic.
Paul = LEGEND!
what an amazing artist.
There will never be another man like sir Paul McCartney he is still one good looking man with those big puppy dog eyes and his cute baby face and that great smile even looks so good with his gray hair
Paul McCartney, the Mozart of our time. 😍
