    I’m finally looking to upgrade my MacBook Pro 16” from 2013 and it’s done all I’ve asked of it and it’s only now starting to really show its age. And just like you said one of the reasons I didn’t upgrade was because I wanted and needed those ports, I wasn’t going to carry a ton of dongles just do the work flow when my 10 year Mac had them built in. Your video has helped me decide to get the 14” MacBook Pro so thank you!

    Thanks for this review! I recently upgraded to this model about a week ago from my previous Macbook Pro 15" from 2012. I also worked my old Macbook very hard and was really impressed with it's performance over the years. Probably the best computer I ever bought. It still works, I'm typing this comment out on my 2012 Macbook now. Let's hope my new 2021 Macbook Pro can live up to the incredible standard my older one has set.

    I like the way you connected the experience of owning it coming from a 2015 laptop. I'm a PC user with almost every port available on my current setup. But batch processing performance is what I'm most excited about!

    Upgraded from my late-2013 MBP yesterday. : ) Just had to, since it was 300€ cheaper than normal.

    Great video! Love the new M1 Max. Curious what lens you used for the shot at 2:14?

    I have 20/20 vision and returned the 14”
    Felt like I had to lean into it.
    Coming from a 15” MBP, I’ll be ordering the 16”

    My 2015 Macbook Pro with 8GB RAM and 256GB hard drive is realllly starting show it's age, and I think I'm finally ready to upgrade! I held off for so long because I hated the idea of dealing with all the dongles due to lack of ports, and adjusting to the bar thingy at the top of the keyboard. I heard a lot of complaints about those things and I didn't want to upgrade until I was sure that I would beq happy with the new laptop for years.
    The M1 Pro looks like the upgraded Mac I've been wishing for! I think I'm going to pull the trigger 😍💃 I can't wait to be able to scroll through my Lightroom previews without a 10 second lag between photos anymore 😭

    Coming from a 2012 mac book pro 13.3" just stopped charging I believe the mag safe port is bad.
    Specs- i7 processor , 750g , 8 gigs of ram. It has taken every update amazingly I'm very upset it's not charging anymore.

    So much for “of course Apple will add Face ID to next year’s model…”
    Honestly I don’t mind the notch either and I love Touch ID, however it is odd that we’re into the second generation of M line chips and still don’t have Face ID on the Mac.

    I upgraded from a 2014 spec'd out 15" MBP (i7/1TB SSD/16GB RAM/nVidia 2GB GPU) to the M1 Pro (non-binned) 14" with 32 GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. Love it so far, but Monterey has it's bugs. I was debating going with a Lenovo ThinkPad over the last generation of M1 MacBooks as I did not foresee Apple bringing back useful ports and with COVID I just held on to the 2014 MBP a bit longer. Glad they did, but still have items on my wish list. I understand the SOC and getting the rig with the memory you want, but it would be nice to add another NVMe drive to expand storage within the unit. A single USB-A port would have been handy as well. I'd also like to see a physical ethernet port on the unit. For my use at home it is nearly perfect though. Using an OWC Thunderbolt 11 port doc (TB4 version) gives me everything I need at home. I still think the M1 is in it's infancy and was worth the initial gamble to invest in. I look forward to what the next Mac mini might bring and I will likely replace my Windows 11 Intel NUC with one of those assuming I can tether Capture One to it (still have not got around to trying that with the new M1 Pro MBP).

    Such a well produced review from visuals to narration. Well done!
    I’m a bit torn between which colour to get personally. I think the silver is more aesthetically pleasing and more durable, while the space grey is a bit dull looking but much less distracting from the screen.
    Are you happy with your move from silver to space grey?

    I have a mid 2014 MBP, i'll be going to a 16 in M1 Pro or Max. Still haven't really decided if Max will be the way to go or just go to the Pro. Since they are so similar in performance.

    Nah, not me! I started with the iPhone. Branch out to the iPad and the move to picked up a refurbished Mac mini and now I’m wait on the 16” M2 MacBook Pro. If the make the m2 Mac mini, I may added to my desktop office work space. Bedsides, it’s like a share holder rewarding himself for products I need to buy🤣😂🤣😅🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

    Thanks for this beautiful and helpful review. I’m going from an intel MacBook Air 2020 i5 to a MBP 14 inch with the lowest spec MAX chip. I’ve been doing video work and it wasn’t cutting it. I can’t wait. Do you have any recommendations for someone getting their first budget dslr? (I’m a multimedia design student).

    Why get the Max in the 14"??

    • @eastonchang
      @eastonchang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question, I just wanted the highest spec in the 14”, as that is what I usually do each time I upgrade to try and stretch upgrade cycles as much as I can. But in this case it may have been unnecessary, and hits power consumption. It is not that costly to upgrade though, and I believe the Max has more encoding engines for video

      The beauty of what Apple did with these was let you pick your screen size/portability without having to get something less portable to get the most performance.

    What size is your Peak Design everyday backpack? Does the 16 inch M1 fit into the 20L?

    • @eastonchang
      @eastonchang  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t tried the new 16” in my 20L backpack. It will be very tight, but it will fit the 15” models and certainly fit in the 30L. I think the laptop being taller now with the notch area will make it struggle to fit in the 20L.

    Add chapter markers and try not to be so pretentious and self-satisfied (smarmy). Only useful content was the test of Lightroom import at 4:23.
