    Traditional Danish heart Christmas decorations make for a perfect Scandi addition to your Christmas Tree. Known in Denmark as a "Julehjerte", these woven heart baskets are often hung from Christmas trees and filled with candy. I have seen many Danish heart Christmas decorations made out of felt and paper, so I decided to create a crochet version.

    Stitch abbreviations I will be using -
    Ch : Chain
    Sl St : Slip Stitch
    Sc : Single Crochet
    Also, when the step says for e.g "(2 sc in next sc. Sc in next sc) 3 times", this means you need to put 2 sc into the same stitch then a normal sc in the following stitch. You'll then want to repeat this 2 more times.
    Suggested Yarn and Crochet Hook Size -
    I used worsted weight yarn and a 3.00mm crochet hook as they were only $0.99 CAD/£0.60 GBP each from the craft store. However, you can simply adjust hook size to get a smaller or larger heart pattern.

      Thank you Kelsey 😊 I know what you mean! I struggled for so long especially with all the written instructions being in Danish so I thought this would be a perfect idea for a video tutorial. Would love to see how yours come out! Feel free to tag me on Instagram @OhSoHygge. Have fun! 😊

    Hi.Thanks for tutorial. What happened to stitch no.29? You finished the first side with 3sc in stitch no.28. Stitch no.29 you've skipped it and worked on the other side . Why do I have to make 30 stitches if the last one ignored and not worked at all.

    Been to Denmark? :) Thank you for this lovely video, I was looking for a pattern since I just started crocheting, and thought it would be great to crochet the hearts instead of make the traditional once in paper.

      Yes! It's a lovely country. Are you from Denmark? My partners family are from Denmark so I was inspired by the paper heart baskets they put on their Christmas tree ☺️ thanks for your kind comment - I hope your crochet Julehjerte turns out great

    Great pattern but still a bit confused with how the first row works out. Ch 30. Add marker to chain next to hook. (29 stitches left) Sc 27. 3sc in 28 th ch. that leaves 1 spare stitch. Am I looking at this wrong. It just throws out all the rest of the rows. Help!!!

    • @OhSoHygge
      @OhSoHygge  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Val, thanks for your question. So you'll need to start with a chain of 30. Add a marker in that last chain you created and skip it and go along that foundation chain and sc 27. When you get to the end there will only be one chain remaining. You'll then want to put 3 sc in that chain and then continue around the other side of the foundation chain. I know technically the numbers don't add up but it will make sense once you try it out 😊 Good luck

    Here's the plan I wrote for myself after making 4 from the video:
    *Chain 30, mark the 29th to skip it on your way back.
    *SC 27, 3 SC in 28th (which was 2 on first chain), turn to start next series on 29 (first loop of whole project)
    *SC 27 (Mark first), 3 SC
    *SC 27, 2 SC in next 3 SC
    *SC 27, 2 SC in next 3 SC
    *SC 1, chain 25 & attach @ 26, SC 1
    *((2 SC, SC)(x3))
    *SC 1, chain 25 & attach @ 26, SC 1
    *((2 SC, SC)(x3))
    * SC 27 ((SC, SC, 2 SC)(x3))
    * SC 27 ((SC, SC, 2 SC)(x3))
    * SC 27 ((2 SC, SC, SC, SC)(x3))
    * SC 27 ((2 SC, SC, SC, SC)(x3))
    * SC 27 ((SC, SC, 2 SC, SC, SC)(x3))
    * SC 27 ((SC, SC, 2 SC, SC, SC)(x3))
    * SC 27 ((SC in 5, 2 SC)(x3))
    * SC 27 ((SC in 5, 2 SC)(x3)) SC to tie off

    I keep getting stuck in the same place :-(
    After I chain 25 and attach it, I have 8 stitches left, not 6 as in the video. My piece is unsymmetrical and looks different than yours.. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

    I don't understand the beginning. chain 30, then skip a chain, do 2 single crochet and 3 in the last chain. but that is only 29 chains spend, i have 1 chain too much?

    • @OhSoHygge
      @OhSoHygge  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Merete, thanks for your question. So you'll need to start with a chain of 30. Add a marker in that last chain you created and skip it and go along that foundation chain and sc 27. When you get to the end there will only be one chain remaining. You'll then want to put 3 sc in that chain and then continue around the other side of the foundation chain. • @merete7168
      @merete7168 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Donna Hughes yes I found a way to make it work :)

    • @vanessaglaze2996
      @vanessaglaze2996 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm having the same problem. I have 1 chain left after sc in chain 28. If you put a marker in the 1st chain next to the hook and then skip it and sc in next chain you always have an extra.

  • @valmcgrann4345
    @valmcgrann4345 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Still having problems setting these stitches. I must be crazy. Would it be possible to slow the video down so we can see more clearly . The first row does not compute with me. On the current video it looks like you have two chains left at the end of the first row. If you start with 30 chains . Minus 1 for marker in 1st chain = 29. Minus sc 27 = 2 chains left. 3 sc into next stitch and there’s 1 chain left.

    • @OhSoHygge
      @OhSoHygge  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry to hear you're still experiencing some difficulties. Maybe just start with a chain of 30, skip the first chain (add a marker in that chain) then go down the side of this chain you just created until you have one remaining-don't even count them-then add 3 chains in the last chain and carry on that way. You'll know which chain to start increasing because you will have placed a marker in there. Then you won't have to worry about wether it's 27 chains along the side or 28. Hope this helps? ☹️

      Help, I frogged four times from the written directions, then I come to TH-cam and I'm on my second try. The count is not coming out right, I actually got further in written. You sc in second ch and sc in next 27 3 sc in the 28th chain, that's only 29 not 30 help! Please

    • @jannehvilstednorup5949
      @jannehvilstednorup5949 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Donna Hughes , make a 29 chain instead, use the stitch marker both in the first and in the last sc of the 27 sc. That helped me. Also notice that the rounded ends starts with 3 sc and they are added by 3 more at every increase 🙂
