Thank you for sharing such a great vlog , it looked like you all had a good time. May be after Christmas ,you could have a look at the british horse welfer site for a horse . You don't own it BUT it's just as good as owning one . Take care and have a good Christmas time .😄😄😊😊👍👍👍👍👍💖❤❤❤
It depends why they are lazy. However, the best way to go into canter - do lots of transitions in trot and transitions within the pace first (a slow trot, a fast trot) wake your pony’s brain up. He might be bored, he might not understand your aid or it needs to be firmer, does he feel unbalanced in the canter, is he listening to you, are you listening to him? Transitions get him listening for whats next, keeps them on their toes. It’s harder if its a riding school pony and you are in a group lesson. But you need to be positive and clear and you as a rider need to feel balanced or else he might just be saving your skin by not going to canter. Extend his trot by raising higher in your seat for a beat longer. After transitions and circles or poles, keep your inside leg on and move your outside leg just behind the girth. Squeeze. Then a kick (if he doesn’t get it) then a bit firmer and then if you need a crop, use this as a firmer aid on the next corner if he’s still not getting it. The crop should be an extension of the leg, not an angry smack. Like I said, it depends why your pony is lazy, but he shouldn’t be if you’ve done the prep first.
Yes! We LOVE the stables we have been riding at since the beginning. But at the other yard we can book in a “jump only” lesson - The cost is also a factor, we pay less for more time at the “new” yard, but our “old” yard is closer and has lots of different horses. We just love both places now (plus more shows to choose from at both yards) We also love all of the different instructors we have. It’s all about variety x

Hi Laila, I absolutely love this vlog!
By any chance do you have some advice on how to ask a lazy pony into trot and canter?
