Great video ! A couple of years ago, I just happened to be at Whitley Bay seafront and noticed something was going on, or at least was about to. After a few questions I found out it was bus rally. I quickly took out my phone and filmed some of the buses as they arrived. I even managed to take an open top bus ride to Tynemouth on an old 1966 Leyland bus. My video proved quite popular, but sadly the Whitley Bay Bus Rally never took place again, 2022 was the last one.
That takes me back to my days on the buses Mike with Alder Valley working on Leyland Nationals,Leopards,Tigers & the old Bristol VR.As the railways it’s good to see the old stuff being preserved & remembered.Cheers Dave👍🏼
Midland Red buses famous for the unusual shaped BMMO vehicles in the 1960s. Midland Red based in Birmingham operated in a huge area with depots in Hereford and Shrewsbury in the west, Stafford in the north, Leicester in the east, Gloucester and Banbury in the south so it was possible to see a Midland red bus in Chester, Stoke on Trent, Derby, Nottingham, Peterborough, Northampton, Oxford, Bristol, and eastern parts of Wales.
Many thanks for posting this video Mike as I wasn't able to get to Wythall. My favourite has to be the Daimler Fleetline with the Alexander body. I remember them so well as a young boy when they would be on the Leamington Via Kenilworth (Clock Tower).
Pleased you was into buses like myself but only certain company's like Midland Red which I remember having two garages at Leamington Spa, and sadly both have now gone.
Interest watch and it’s brilliant to see these lovely old buses are looked after and kept in working order. I’m sure the memories came flooding back to you.
Thanks John for watching and your comment, I still have Midland Red books for Christmas off my son as he knows how much I enjoyed the company when I was a kid. Regards Mike.
Brilliant. Big fan of Midland Red since the age of 10. Used the 150 B’ham to Stratford upon Avon route. Favourite D9 although LD8 very often used on this route along with older D5 (?) and later DD11 Daimler Alexander……..
All great buses which we love, I think we just can't get these well made buses out of our lives mate. Such great days I had going around the garages on a Sunday at the age of 11.
Many thanks for another great viewing of my favourite buses of the great Midland Red.Happy memories of sitting in the front seat on the Bournemouth coach as far as Southampton. Ican even remember the reg no KHA 315 They had nothing so modern down there in Royal Blue territory Great days
Having grown up in, and still living in, a Midland Red/Midland Red West area, I miss seeing the iconic red livery and Midland Red name on full display. Sure, the legal name of my main bus operator may still mention Midland Red, but that’s about it! Another great video! And seeing a Leyland National on the road nowadays is just epic!
Oh yes in the early days they were all over the midlands, its amazing how the bus company's have changed, and thank you for your interests in my video mate.
Absolutely wonderful, i wish i travelled from Devon to attend but we had terrible problems trying to find hotel accommodation, loads of rooms were available in Central Birmingham but fat too expensive, the cheapest was £243 and no breakfast, we were not prepared to pay that for Birmingham.
That price is ridiculous, you may have done better around by the airport on the Coventry Road travelling into Birmingham. But that info may help in the future, but thank you so much for your kind comment which I appreciate very much.
Very nice that one Mike. They are a nice colour, long time going and have done well. Another gooden from you. You got some good shots of these. Nice ride behind as well. Very nice indeed! Really enjoyed, thanks for sharing!
Well the last time I visited the museum there was one running, and a few years ago they celebrated by going to London on the M1 which was filmed. I remember going on one doing 100 mph, great days.
It was very busy at the museum on the afternoon Raymond, I have never seen the car park so full, pleased you enjoyed the video but I don't think all the buses operated that were down to, regards Mike.
9:20"Old Judge" seems a strange name for a brand of tea 🍵 . What image were they going for there? It's drunk by 100 year old fogies in wigs who like pronouncing the death sentence?
Another lovely trip down memory lane for you from your annual visit to the wonderful bus museum at Wythall
Super place to have a day out.
Great place for a day out, but you MUST like buses.
Great video !

Yes indeed it was a great bus company, I enjoyed going round many garages in the very early sixty's.
Oh how I miss those old Midland Red buses. They were the best service in the midlands, unlike some of the rubbish we have today, ie:Arriva.
Yes Michael they were a brilliant bus company, cheers for watching my video.

Having not seen Midland Red vehicles since the 1960s it was nice to be reminded of the sound of that BMMO diesel engine.

Travelodge at Maypole or Premier Inn at Longbridge and catch our shuttle bus.
We have a list of local accommodation on the website.
Awesome. Hopefully they’ll do a 121 years event next year, seeing I convinced myself this was the following weekend😢
Oh dear, well there is always some Midland Red buses at the Museum on most open days.

@@antman09ful1 That's very nice then Mike, anytime 👍
Some fine examples there Mike.👍👍
Cheers David.
Some nice old buses there Mike, I’m not a fan of buses but the old ones like this I do like, nice vid
Yes I understand Kev, Midland Red was very special to me, cheers Mike.
I noticed that all the real Midland Red buses have HA in it's registration numbers, is there a reason for that please.
They were first registered in the west midlands.
They were all registered in the Birmingham area.
They were all registered in Bearwood, which was where the head office was Pete.
The code was allocated to;
Smethwick (1907-66)
Warley (1966-74)
Dudley (1974-96)
Sad to not see more inside shots of seatin etc.
Well John I will try and put that right next year if I get there.
I'd love to have a go in one of the 100 mph motorway 🛣 coaches. I don't know if any are operational?
Well the last time I visited the museum there was one running, and a few years ago they celebrated by going to London on the M1 which was filmed.

It was very busy at the museum on the afternoon Raymond, I have never seen the car park so full, pleased you enjoyed the video but I don't think all the buses operated that were down to, regards Mike.
cute🚌
Thanks.
Midland Red was destroyed by the national bus company. I know I used to work in a Leicester garage.
Yes I believe you are right, I think that too.
But it wasn't just midland red, it was all local corporation buses as well.
Something a bit different Mike. I remember seeing a video of yours of Midland Red buses before.
Yes a great bus company Ben.
Nice to see some classic buses mike there far better sounding them modern rubbish from wrightbus
Yes I must agree mate.
