Hi Paul, A smashing Video, nice to see Wyre Forest Station still stands today and that Newnham Bridge has been fully restored to its former glory. I never traveled the line but I do remember as a young lad seeing one of the small Diesel Railcars at Newnham Bridge whilst on my way to Swansea with my late father in about 1959 or 1960. Your video brought back happy memories on what would have been my late fathers 98th Birthday, excellent timing on your part.

Thank you Andrew - glad it brought back memories for you.
I thorougly enjoyed making this video - a real pleasure, and the Wyre Forest remains a very special place.
I never got to see Newnham Bridge Station when it was in its dilapated condition, but I did see the restored version when I was filming my Leominster Canal video there.
Glad you enjoyed it as well.
      Great to hear from you.
      Take care,
      Paul

I seem to remember seeing the remains of that viaduct to wyre forest from a train near Bewdley. And I've got a 1909 railway magazine article about the ditton priors railway, and I i think it features an inclined plane railway! Great video Paul! Thanks for that!

      Thank you Michael!
Yes, it is a really lovely area.
The Ditton Priors line is a fascinating one.
      Cheers,
      Paul

Beautiful countryside, great footage, very nice to see it. I used to live in the area, went to school's in the area, but i'm an Expat presently, so very nice to see.

Thank you - yes it is a really lovely area - in my opinion, as good as anything further south in my area in Devon and Cornwall, but without the beaches, of course (but also without the crowds!).
I really like both The Forest of Dean and The Wyre Forest - they are places you can lose yourself in and really escape - such an important thing to do in these ever frenetic days.
      Cheers,
      Paul

I had heard of the Wyre Forest & that was it I’m afraid. I did not realise how far it stretched too. I hope it is not whittled away by greedy developers! Though Spring has sprung here it must take longer to show in a forest- still felt like Winter.
I liked the carved seat with the steam train & animals & the greenery arrangement - that was a nice touch.
I know nothing re train designs - I thought the one at the station looked unusual - continental even but I bet I’m wrong!
I too was impressed by the remaining abutments- so sturdy & solid- they didn’t look that old!
    Thanks Paul!

Thank you Diana - it truly is a wonderful place - I am so glad that what remains of the forest is now fully protected.
Yes, parts of the forest still looked positively autumnal - I only filmed it on Monday just gone!
That train is a GWR Railbus; they brought them in to reduce costs and try and save the line - sadly it didn't work. There were a few of them dotted on rural lines right across the GWR network in the Westcountry. Some of them were made at Gloucester Carriage Works, others were made in Swindon, Wiltshire. They had the nickname 'flying banana', and they started to be introduced from the mid 1930s. They could actually go up to 80mph! 38 of them were made in total. They were quite a radical streamlined design for the day.
Yes, the bridge abutments looked like they were built yesterday - and how! Very strong!
      Thanks so much,
      take care,
      Paul

There were some wonderful sights on that walk. The amazing bridge & the carved bench were really something.

Yes, this forest (first time I have ever visited it) has left a real impression on me.
I am sure I will be back to explore this forest again, as there is much more to see.
That carved bench was something else! I wonder who did it?
      Cheers Faith,
      Paul

Splendid explore of some of the natural wonders of Wyre Forest and abandoned Tenbury Wells line. Good to see the former Wyre Forest station lives on as a modern residence. How romantic it must be living in such idylic forest surroundings. As you observed, the Dowles bridge over the Severn looks in marvellous condition and almost seems to invite a reconnection between both banks I don't suppose it will ever happen, but what a crossing it would make. A very informative and enjoyable video. Thank you.

Glad you enjoyed it - I really enjoyed making this one - it is a super location.
I would have loved to have travelled on that line - what a fantastic tourist/heritage line it would have made. Still, we have to be grateful that we have the SVR and GWSR and the others.
Yes, it must be wonderful living there - it is in quite a remote location - well over a mile from the small forest village of Far Forest.
      Take care,
      Paul

I've lived within sight of Station house for 13yrs and haven't walked as far into the forest as you did. I've looked into the local history before, but wasn't expecting to see colour footage of the Station in use...!! That was cool. As a child, my 90-ish yr old landlord used to pull apple carts from the orchards in the village to the station, BEFORE school..!! I'm sure you realised how steep that hill is down to the Station...! Kids were built different back then.. 😂 Thanks for the vid.. x

Thank you! That's a fab comment!
I love the whole of the Wyre Forest area, and the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire - both ancient forests have a lot of similarities. So much of interest in it. I am sure I will be back here again to film before too long.
I would have loved to have travelled on the line from Tenbury Wells to Bewdley.
      Cheers!

Look into the old Bromyard to Leominster line. Especially the - viewable by friendly request - stations of Fencote and Rowden Mill.

Thank you! Yes, I like to cover everywhere from Cornwall to Worcestershire and all bits in between. Glad you enjoyed the Dowles Graveyard video as well as this one.
I have got the Bromyard to Leominster line, as well as the Worcester to Bromyard line on my (very long!) to do this. Shame the Linton Railway closed in Bromyard - the tracks were rusting away last time I was there last summer.
I have heard good things about Fencote & Rowden Mill - thanks for reminding me!
      Cheers,
      Paul

Mornin' Paul, What a lovely forest walk over an old railway line. The scene carved out of wood was perfect I hope it lasts. What a bridge that must have been back in the day, it stills looks magnificent today.
It looked a cold and damp day out, hope you were able to get a hot drink somewhere or find a friendly TH-camr willing to share a sandwich!!
I liked the old picture of the motorcoach, would have been fun traveling to school on that but it wasnt to be.
I spotted Leominster on the map and my eyes pricked up just before you mentioned it, when my ears pricked up too. I seem to recall you had plans to go back there again.
    Have a great weekend!!

      Thank you David!
I thoroughly enjoyed making this one, although the weather could have been a little warmer and brighter!
One of the mills is now opened by the National Trust - so I may revisit to explore that in another video. Despite being near the Wyre Forest in other videos I have never explored it before - I was most taken with it.
Yes, The Leominster Canal! I do hope to revisit it but I need the ground to thoroughly dry up before I attempt that!!
Hope you have a good weekend too!
      Take care,
      Paul.

Incredible bridge abutments with the blue brick & stone! Never seen any like that before, I wonder if there are others of the same design anywhere?!

      Thank you Peter!
I must admit I haven't come across one (abutments) quite like that one before.
It was built by William Clark and the metal deck was built in Birkenhead before being moved to the site.

When the weather is this bad it is good video catch up weather.
I love the Wyre Forest - it is the Forest of Dean's big sister. They both have so much in common (Severnside, coal mining and ex mining villages). I follow a group on Facebook looking at old photos of mining here - some incredible sights.
I am looking forward to walking through it again soon on my new long footpath trail - The Geo Park Way.
      Cheers Shaun!
