  • This video is aimed at beginners or fishing returners like me, who may be thinking of starting fishing for fun.
This is the Matt Hayes Adventure kit with the 8ft telescopic rod from Argos. I also include a bit on the Matt Hayes landing net.
I started all positive and enthusiastic.....

This is a really nice video. I like how despite the clear negative aspects of the kit, you did your best to remain as upbeat as you could.
Interestingly, I took my son to our local shop yesterday and got us set up for about £75 for both of us. I'm glad I did as I nearly picked up one of these sets based on Matt's name alone.

Thank you for the kind comment Gavin. I hope you and the lad enjoy your fishing. One of my 7 Grandchildren has expressed an interest in coming with me on the next trip, I feel this may be the start of something....

August 2022 Update: The telescopic rod is left on the boat with the 30 size Leeda reel. The 40 size reel is in regular use on a float rod. I have fitted ball race bearings to both reels. The landing net is still in regular use. I have added a Preston Innovations Ignition 11ft feeder rod and PI Inertia 30 size reel to the arsenal.

Good video. I do a cross section of fishing and was interested in an all round set to keep in the car. I'd looked at this set for ages now and always thought it about £10 overpriced...and you've proved me right. In Fladen's favour, when you buy any reel with line included, the line tends to be poor & needs to be upgraded straightaway. I believe Fladen is based in Sweden where lure fishing is very popular, so I've found their lure tackle ok...but not so much bait fishing tackle. Generally I think Leeda are good for budget gear and thanks to your video, I think that's the direction I'll go 👍

If you getting a telescopic rod pay some money because the cheap ones damage so easily

Having now actually been fishing with this stuff I can repoprt in the name of fairness that the telescopic rod fitted with the Leeda reel, 6lb line, size 14 hook, caught a 4 - 5lb carp and did not fall apart. The MH landing net also took the strain very well. I still wouldn't buy another one though.

You should be fine! Just watch loads of YT videos for beginners then choose a place that's not rammed with big carp. Best to tell people you're a beginner and you'll get plenty of advice locally. Enjoy! 😀
