Racial health gaps have always existed, and socioeconomics and racism within the medical system have long kept equal healthcare out of reach. But what kind of toll does the experience of racism itself have on your body? Glad You Asked host Christophe Haubursin wants to know.

They consistently said “controlling for income,” which means that they were comparing similar income groups to show that the differences could not be explained away by economic position.

I'm a white passing hispanic and I've never once had a racist incident because of how I looked. I've never had a store owner look at me suspecting me of trying to shoplift or anything of the sorts. I can't say the same for the friends and family I have grown up with that didn't look like me

I live in India and this whole season has been a ton of correlation, what black people suffer in USA it is almost the same that lower caste and schedule classes go through in india, but alas there are very few research going around all this in India

I agree calling someone a race because of their values is racist. I prefer acting American with American values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. With the freedoms of the individual. If you think that’s white then you are racist for attributing those values to skin color.
When people in vulnerable situation are exposed to lower quality education and end up in toxic work and family environments they get more stressed out. Simple as that. Just not so simple for the teacher's union.
I think it's hard for most people to even acknowledge this to themselves. There's a reason the mind has defence mechanisms to avoid seeing the world as it really is

Does anyone else find the way they "create" graphs super gimmickey? Like, what was the point of using candles as graphs? Or sticky notes (which, additionally, didn't even work very well)? It distracts from the actual points.
Also, although I 100% believe most of the results of these studies, I feel like separating correlation from causation in a lot of these studies is very difficult. Of course more racist people are in the south, but that doesn't mean that the negative black medical outcomes are because of racism, but could very well be just because Republican lawmakers have shitty health policies in general.
I'm a researcher. I don't think you understand how research is done in science, especially in soft sciences. Most of scientific evidence IS based on correlational evidence. The reason is that conducting research in the real world can be difficult or unethical for controlled double blind studies. So even if we have no evidence for causation, correlational evidence can still provide insights for further investigation and used for prediction. Understand that dismissal of correlational evidence is a fallacy as much as assuming causative relationship exists with correlation.

The health despairity is also reflected in black and brown neighborhoods being food deserts. It is difficult to fight the chronic stress when you may be finding it also difficult to have access to the nutrients necessary to fortify your body. Look at black, indigenous Americans and Latinx communities how water quality is parceled out. These are the grotesque attacks of systematic racism, lack of clean water or decent food.

at around 14:00 i was about to call my dad too. but then i remembered we was in and how of jail for the first 5 years of my life than did some fucked shit and my mom left him when i was 6 or 7 and he hasn’t been in my life besides a phone call once a month since. so i was like “why am i about to call this man and apologize? he didn’t do anything.”
This was timely. Important to point out how racism - the "system" part of it - has a word. It's called CAPITALISM. The capitalist system is a system exploitation of the working class by the ruling class, which weighs most heavily on the most vulnerable among the working class. Capitalist exploitation, whether based on race or other factors, is not a state of mind it has material impacts and this video does a good job of highlighting that - I just wish it would use more direct language so as to help demystify capitalist exploitation. Most importantly, it is important not to demonize those who fall for false consciousness but to make clear the actual power relations between the ruling/capitalist class and the rest of us who use public transport, go to public school, use public libraries, and shop at Wal-Mart.
The mistreatment I face is becoming increasingly worse every day. Considering some want us dead, I wonder how wise it is to let them know the behavior is affecting us. It's not like they will feel bad and improve.
Super interesting topics, well researched presentation and high quality production. But there is a weird vibe between the hosts and guests Every. Single. Episode. Even between the vox staffers themselves. There's something unreal about these interactions that makes the whole show seem inauthentic and robotic.

Never ever ever believe there is no hope due to some invisible force. Never believe you can't do something because of the color of your skin and stop feeling insulted. This series is truly riviting. As a South African, seeing the overlaps between the experiences of fellow black people in America with those of us this side not only shows me that we indeed are even more similar than the media would have us believe but how widespread the nuances of racism and the horrific effects of it truly are.
I would attribute it more to artificial scarcity created by pharmaceutical companies. What if they started charging $10,000 per shot, but made any racist moves illegal?
Then you’d have significant racial gaps with who is getting the vaccine because of the racial wealth gap.

So well researched. I love the details. This episode was truly eye opening and enlightening. Now, with the Asian racism, I do feel more stressed and not sleeping well. With that, I can see how Black and African American communities can have health affects from racism and mico aggressions on a daily basis. Wow.. just wow!! I mean I kinda understood before but this is more long term and devastating to one's life and health. We need to work together to stop this.
The problem with our society is white women constantly complaining about discrimination despite effectively having all the same powers and perks of white men. We spend more effort collectively appeasing their demands which is energy that could be spent improving racial disparity. White women are the most outspoken yet privileged people in our society.

I grew up in Hialeah/Miami as a white kid. I've seen it and I've felt it mainly bc of my economic situation and that I was part of that community. My nickname was Native bc I could go anywhere and it would be like I had always been there. Human rights for all! Healthcare, housing, food and water. We have one life it shouldn't be total shit bc of groups of ppl are complete assholes and spend their lives keeping ppl exaclty like them down.

I'm really glad you all made this video. This is an area that I wish was discussed more because it shows the true face of institutional racism in this country. As a medical student about to start my rotations, it's become more and more clear to me that race is a definite contributor to biases and mismanagement of diseases in people of color. More disheartening, it's seeing how racism makes building trust between people of color much harder. On a personal level, reading more about medical racism helped me start the journey of realizing that we still have racism in this country that needs to be dealt with.

I wonder if Asians would be treated differently when they walk into a hospital. My parents have had their bad experiences with the hospitals, and the doctors appear very ineffective. Maybe the hospital reserves the best doctors for whites and the medical trainees for non-whites?

Is Racism Making People Sick? was a truly life changing production. I was blown away by the amazing production value and I truly think it is one of the movies of all time. The viewer is just taken aback with waves and waves of emotion that this movie generates. A bold showing on the theory and practice of collective oligarchies. A consumerist masterpiece that shows the function of a capitalist world built off of democracy. A work of art that has proven to be the pinnacle of human creation, pushing our minds to think at the greatest capacity. The beautifully written plot just has me at the edge of my seat for the whole runtime of this absolute masterpiece. One can tell that the director directed, the actors acted, and the editors edited. It was really a movie. As we speak I experience a morbillion emotions from all that this film has accomplished in plot, acting, effects, and everything one can ever think of. Everyone involved with this conveyed the amazing message of the theory and practice of collective oligarchies and put their best foot forward in ensuring the absolute top production quality and entertainment. This massive opening weekend alone just unleashed sheer spectacle onto our screens and the audience could only cry tears of joy as the protagonist shouted his famous phrase, “IT’S THERMIN TIME!” Nothing can compare to the therms that he thermed on this day of the opening almost-weekend. This production has simply put absorbed its audience into its absolutely masterful creation, and has established itself as one of the movies of all time.

I certainly know how it feels to be discriminated against. I have a rare severe chronic pain disorder and my health care has been a challenge, to say the least. Racism breaks my heart and it definitely effects me because I feel helpless. I just know that love is the answer.
Now, imagine that at a global scale. How Americans and Europeans as a whole are more privileged thanks to exploiting people and resources in other countries. Imagine being from a small island in the pacific seeing the sea level rise everyday because powerful countries don't want to commit to reduce carbon emissions, or a traditional fisherman in Somalia that resorts to piracy because big commercial fishing boats are depleting the sea out of fish, imagine living in Zambia where a certain swiss multinational creates so much pollution that many people die of respiratory diseases, or a poor farmer in Colombia who lost a child to a war financed by a drug mainly demanded by people from the USA, or ...... The list goes on and on.
